Way to go RBI Rangers! If it cant be a Georgia team, then glad it was a Southeastern team, and a team who came to ATL to compete. They looked very strong to us in the Triple Crown when we played them. We were surprised they didn't go deeper in that TC event in Cumming.

What a thrill for that group of family's. Can't wait to see what happens next up there.

I wonder if the Tennessee RBI Rangers are the lowest seeded team to win Cooperstown? They were 19th seed, which I would have said before this that it was impossible to win from, and had to play an extra game because they started a tier down from the top 16.

Looks like they went in banging and just asked their pitchers to keep the runs allowed lower than their runs scored.

Great job. They were 5-1. I don't remember if there has been a 5-1 team win it either.

Would be good info to know to calm curiosity.

Good luck to the teams up there this week.

30th seed in 2005. I remember a few seeds in the 20s making it to championship game. With so many teams at 6-0 and 5-1 all teams in top 30 (no more than 2 games Wednesday) have a chance.

Bandits are here and have just gotten settled in but I don't expect that they will sleep much tonight as they were so excited when Papa left the barracks. Most of the time they are all about business but there is just something about Cooperstown that brings the kid out in all of us.

Well we went up to Cooperstown and did well. We went 4-4 for the tournament. Not bad considering we played and beat some very good teams. Some of the umpires were TERRIBLE! We had a player make the finals of the Golden Arm, he placed 2nd overll out of the prelims, then missed the mark in the finals but he did great. Cooperstown was a good trip and I would go back anytime! Maybe my 9 yr old can go at 10 and 12!!! Good Luck to the Bandits this week in Cooperstown!

The RBI Rangers are for real and a very good team. The pitcher they threw against us in the championship game was a lefty who had a VERY VERY NASTY HOOK. We played with the Orphans and managed to go 10-1 giving up the fewest runs in the tournament but struggled agianst the very nasty hook the RBI pitcher had.

Overall this was a great experience and something my son and I wont forget. He didnt get the opportunity to start at shortstop in the championship game but after the starting shortstop struggled was put at SS in the 5th and shut down anything hit his way till the end of the game. To play in that stadium was unlike anything you can imagine. To see your boy step out on that field will give goose bumps to even the hardest father or coach.

Before the championship game when both teams were running around the stadium wall giving high fives. My son said that those around the wall were pulling and grabing the players, plus giving them pins and other trinkets. It was amazing watching all this happen. The next morning I spoke to the baseball operations manager and he told me that this was the largest crowd he has seen for the championship game in a very long time. 5000 plus in stadium and over 80k watching online.

Be prepared for those going for some of your young men getting sick. My son for about a 24 hour period was running a 102 temp. There was some bug going around the complex that hit the kids and coaches. For all those coaches who have never been. Bring your walking shoes, be prepared to walk A LOT!!!!!!

The food was pretty good and consessions cost was very reasonable and also served good food. Also be ready if you are a coach or player to rise and shine very early. The barracks have no shades so the sun shines through bright and early. I would say staying in the barracks I was up ever morning around 5:30 am heading to the food tent to get some coffee. The boys were up most of the time by 6 to 6:30am every morning.

The teams that made it to the "Around the Horn" finals were questionable for week #1. Two fields were used and the top 6 times move on to the final round. It was strange that ALL 6 teams that advanced to the finals came from the second field. When these teams moved to the big Championship Field, their times in the finals were significantly higher than the times posted by top teams that had been eliminated in the first round on the big field. Being that the "outfield bases" were not measured (just thrown down in a spot), everyone wondered if the distance was the same on both fields which had an impact on times. It was just odd.

I saw the RBI Rangers play a few games in Cooperstown and they just hit the ball hard and long! Defensively, they looked beatable with normal looking ballplayers...but offensively, they killed teams by crushing the ball. They were a very good hitting team.

G-man:

I was one of those 80k watching on the internet. I am not that familiar with the SF Orphans but after looking them up on USSSA, I was surprised to see them in the championship game. Did they bring in a number of guest players? It doesn't look that way (I checked the rosters). I didn't realize that you and your son were playing on for the Ophans in Cooperstown because I thought you lived in Georgia and you had told us that he played for a 14u team. I imagine he must have dominated in Cooperstown.

We guest played with the Orphans in Cooperstown. We were the only addition to the team for Cooperstown. Everyone else is part of their normal team. My son had a BLAST and did well. Out of the 11 games we played he played every inning at SS other than the semi and championship game. Oh and the day we had to pull him out for running a 102 fever. Everyone around was getting sick including me. So make sure anyone going takes medication because the boys will get sick.

MLB if you watched the championship game it was their SS starting the game but after not being able to make certain throws and a few errors throughout the game in the 5th inning was when G-Man was brought in and had a hard linedrive he caught and a ball hit in the hole the 3rd baseman missed and G-Man gloved it and threw the batter out at 1st.

The Orphans have a good team they are one of those teams that if they are hitting and pitching their #1 or #2 they will beat anyone. If they are not hitting which is more often then they are then its tough for them to win. It just happened this past week they stayed hot hitting. Defensively they are solid but have a weakness on the infield hence the reason we were asked to go. Coming out of pool play we ended up the # 4 seed. If not for 1 missed ground ball at 2nd which allowed 2 runs to score we would have been the #1 seed coming out of pool.

However as I mentioned G-Man didnt get to play in the semi and championship game until the 5th inning. When I asked the coach why all of a sudden he wasnt going to play SS in the Championship I was told that they didnt need Derek Jeter plays LOL and someone to turn the play at 2nd. Which was kind of funny since he was the only one to turn a few double plays during the tournament for the team.

2 plays earlier in the tournament where G-man fielded a ball that the 3rd baseman missed in the hole 10 ft back in the grass with a runner on 1st threw out the batter at 1st where they thought a double play could have been turned. Then one other play where he had to charge up in the grass behind the pitchers mound on a ball and threw the batter out at first on the run instead of turning a double play. Which couldnt have been turned.

You should never count out a Florida team MLB. With the way the Orphans were playing this past week. I would have liked to seen the Bandits. All credit is due to the RBI team. The lefty pitcher they had was very very good. He had a fastball in the 70s but had one of the nastiest hooks I have ever seen. All tournament long the RBI team hit the ball REALLY HARD. Not sure if they brought in any ringers but they played really really well.

As for G-Man. He did really really well at SS all tournament. Hitting he batted over 400 which wasnt great but I think that was because of a timing issue being at 50ft vs 60 ft pitching mound and he stole a lot of bases.

Questions for those that went week #1. Is CDP equiped with wireless so those of us who may have to sneak in a little work on the lap top can do so?

You can bring a laptop and the wi-fi does work in the dining tent. We could get reception outside of our barracks, but not in the barracks.

We practiced Around the Horn for about 4 - 5 of our practices. One of the things about Around the Horn is that unlike practice, there are a lot of people in the Little Majors hooting and hollering, the players are watching other teams go, and hearing their times. I am quite sure nerves impact the boys because we saw a lot of teams making one or two bad throws and those are killers.

Yes you get wireless all throughout the park. I would suggest bringing something you can catch up with whats going on outside the park. There are no TV's and I didnt see newspaper one.

MLB: Yes we would have liked to see the Bandits.

We went week 1 to Cooperstown and my son had his ipod with him. According to him, they did have wi-fi in the park and around the barracks. He said that only a certain # of people can get on at one time...like 300. (Not so sure that part is true.) However, he must have had wi-fi because he sent us some text from his ipod that required a wi-fi connection. So, take your laptop but I doubt you will get much work completed with the hectic schedule. Be prepared for crazy weather. First part of our trip the temp was in the low 60's. Then overnight it changed to the 90's with high humidity.

Also, in regards to the jerseys...we have friends playing this week and the jerseys DO have a block on the back with the # inside. They said the players all look like "jockeys". Below the block, is a 15 yr anniversary logo. These are different jerseys than last week. We must have gotten the old ones that they were cleaning out of storage.

I like the fact that other teams want to see great teams like the Bandits.....We don't play in the age group but I would rather lose a close game to a top team nationally than just kill a team we are supposed to beat. IMO it doesn't show anybody anything except you can pick on the duck teams and avoid the other good teams!!

I didn't think so! The SF Orphans would not match up well with the Gerogia Bandits. According to their record against 12 Majors on USSSA of 17-18 and compared with the Bandits' 57-1, it would be a mismatch in my humble opinion.
Everyone knows that the majority of the teams in Cooperstown are at the level of AA and A. Perhaps 8-10 teams are of Majors category each week. On some weeks, the competition is even weaker. It appeared to me that week #1 was one of those with very few strong teams. Lucky for the Georgia Bandits that they weren't there. They would have been extremely bored.
G-man: I'm glad your son performed well. I wouldn't have expected less from a kid accustomed to play along with much older and stronger kids. Its a shame there was so much politics at the time of the championship game. You can never get rid of politics!
