Brackets appear to be out for the AAA tournament. Looks like Shiloh may play Cardinals early on if they can beat the Wolves. This will leave at least one of the favorites playing from the losers bracket the entire tournament.

Hi Moccs -

Looks like you guys aren't in the tourney this weekend, and neither are the East Cobb Rays! We won a birth in this tourney back in March with Super NIT, but our team is off to Cooperstown this weekend.

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend - I'm just hoping the weather forecast holds out for NY! Low 50s at nite, low 80s for a high is pretty nice weather compared to the heat we've been getting here in GA!

USSSA finally figured out that the Rays and Georgia Jays are both not playing this weekend. Amazing they never confirmed with the both teams about whether they were playing or not. Now down to 5 teams - not what you would want or expect for the State Championship. I know Shiloh is very disappointed how this tournament ended up. A couple of teams will make the long drive to LaGrange for just one game on Saturday.

The lack of particiation says alot about what teams think of USSSA.

Would have been better for Shiloh to have played in USSSA Open State last weekend.

Its simple usssa didn't want many teams to come to a tournement that's free. I heard before sub states started they didn't want to go over 8 teams.

I agree it would have been better for Shiloh to play in the Open last week, but we completed our GGBL tournament just last Wednesday night, so there was a conflict. Like I have said before, I wish this season would have worked out different where our boys could have seen the elite teams play - it would have helped their development. Probably poor scheduling on my part.

I'm not some big fan of USSSA as I disagree with 2 very important rules....8 after 4, which is ridiculous and using runs allowed as the first tie breaker thus forcing teams to pitch their best in blowouts. However, USSSA does allow for a double elimination state championship, unlike Triple Crown. I like Triple Crown but state tournaments should be double elimination as it's a better event for all teams. Most teams will play 5 or more games in a double elimination format.
I'm surprised every year that the USSSA double elimination tournament isn't the biggest tourney of the year. I don't understand why teams would pay $450 to play in some USSSA qualifier with a 3 game minimum but not play in the state championship for $100 more. If you think about a 16 team tourney with a 3 game minimum, 8 teams, which is half the field are only playing in 3 games. We hosted the open states and some AA teams ended up playing 6 games and made a run out of the losers bracket. The kids had a blast going on a run while also playing some of the best teams in the state. I would think most teams would work their schedules backwards from the WS to the State Championship and then the little local tourney's. I understand if you don't like USSSA and don't ever play in those events, then I wouldn't play in the states either. However, most play USSSA all year and skip the double elimination state championship - can't figure this one out. I'm sure everyone has there reasons but two years in a row we have had a much better showing for an invitational than a state championship.

Are you talking about the one @ East Cobb? I think one team would of been shocked had they signed up to play.

MadSkills,

It depends on the makeup of the team. We have tryouts in August so we need to see how the team looks. Going to have 5 playing football, so we are going to try and squeeze in 10-15 games in the fall.

If we have the same boys as this year, we would not do GGBL and play only tournaments. We would play a major schedule and see how we compete.

Mike, the biggest problem our team has with the State tournament is the start date. We have to take off work during the day to play. We were fortunate and got pool play out of the way that first night, but still parents had to take off work early in order for us to get down there. I know you guys have to work around the field issue, but an 11 team double elimination tournament, can be done in 3 days at most parks.

The Moccs would have played in the State tournament but they would not let our team join the sub-state the first weekend because they were full(6 teams ?) and would not play on Friday. Go figure. The State usssa (AAA)tournament with only 5 teams says it all.

It was very unfortunate for the Macon Cardinals this weekend because they were short about 75% of their entire roster because of dixie/little league all stars.
I know they were looking to bring the championship home for Middle Georgia and play the Titans one final time this year with all their players. 5 new teams are forming locally so maybe we will all be more competitive in the near future and some of the Atlanta teams can come to Macon for a change....

I don't think it would matter for Macon. Looking at Shiloh's roster, looks like they've added a couple of very good players for the State Tournament. Don't think they'll be challenged by anyone else.

If they were missin 75 percent then that means they have 40 on there roster. No time for excuses. I guess they should have picked some up from sig park like shiloh.

I've been saying it the entire season, our(Sig Park) top 5 with Shiloh's top 5 would be extremely hard to beat. Without doing it I have no clue how we would stack up to the Braves or Stealth but I would really really just like to see it for a couple tourneys.

you should not be allowed to add players to the roster after a certain date. play with the players you qualified with. congratulations titans on a great usssa season. hope you do well in the series if you go.

Yes Shiloh did add a couple of very good Sig. Park players this weekend and enjoyed getting to know them. We were also missing our main catcher and #2 hitter, as well as our #1 pitcher and #4 hitter. If you only have 10 players, and lose two of your better players, you might as well as add two good local boys that get along well with all the boys.

All the teams in LaGrange were very disappointed with the small number of teams playing in the State Tournament. Just didn't have the right vibe, plus the location didn't help.

I personally believe without our two boys Shiloh would have won the tournament. Say what you want about "shouldn't be allowed to add players" this weekend really showed how strong Gwinnett County is. Hopefully this can open some eyes of Gwinnett County parents and some real major travel teams can be formed. And I know the two Sig Park boys had a great time playing this weekend and I'm thankful the rules do allow 3 adds as I know we didn't want our season to be over just yet. We had a great time but I was disappointed in the location and turnout, also we have 2nd place trophies from Triple Crown, USTBA and Grand Slam that are nicer and bigger than the USSSA "state champs" Not to hard to see why USSSA is having low turn out in our state......

Is it really a big deal that a team added some AAA players in order to play in a state championship that only had 5 teams? At this point just let the kids play baseball. It wasn't like berths to Disney were on the line or they brought in some ringers from a top major team. And if you look at the records of all 5 teams, there are only a total of 5 games played against 10u major teams combined and 4 of those games were in fall so none of them are seeking the spotlight anyway.

USSSA's "3 adds" rule is good for non-major players as many AA and AAA teams don't play deeper into summer and some kids want to keep playing.

Well to clear up what was said about the Cardinals what I meant was that they were missing about 75% of their top players from their roster and had to pick up two new players( no ringers ) just to make the tournament because of little league. Bad timing for everyone and very poor turn out.

I have no problem with the add ons. We played with 10 of our 11 kids that we had all year. I was proud of our boys this weekend. We played 18 great innings and 2 bad ones.

I do not get caught up in "THE SPOTLIGHT" I want my boys to learn the game, be good sports, and learn about God while in my care. Winning is fun and I want to win just as much as the next person, but it is not everything at 10 years old. I think it matters to the parents more than the kids.

I wish there would have been more than 5 teams also I was disappointed that we had to provide our own baseballs.

Congrats to Shiloh they are a good team with good fans!

I have struggled many times over the issue of adding players. Especially when you have good rivalries with teams and they show up at the end of the season with three studs from other teams. I agree that picking up three players may be a good idea to help make a tournament. However I dont think a team should be allowed to pick up a player from another team after a certain date or rosters are frozen in the same age group.

In all fairness, if we didn't live in Gwinnett county I think our boys would be on a top major team. The two boys added were the 2009 10U Major Ga Grip players. #3 pitcher/#1 SS and the #4Hitter/#1 3b on that team. Once again we were handcuffed and forced to play with a AAA team. I cannot say enough that Gwinnett county has a completely different mindset when it comes to elite travel ball.

Matt, one thing that I have always been extremely impressed with your team is win or lose there is always a post game prayer. IMO we don't see that enough.
