How does a team decide whether they are a major team? Several had said that this team and that team should be major etc. If you look at the top 10 power rankings for usssa(AAA) then you could argue that maybe they should move up. We went 1-4 in the state major tournament in East Cobb. We are basically an all star team from one area and wanted to test the waters. We had 5 different lineups for the tournament because of little league. Next year about 75% of our team will be travel only. We dont mind losing but want to be competitive.

If you can't compete with the 7-8 major teams in state then no, some of the top AAA teams should be playing majors because they are dominating AAA. Teams like Shiloh and Signature Park fit that criteria, I would think that they would both be moved to 11U majors.

my opinion, do what you guys did at the USSSA State and thats compete!

Please throw all "rankings" out the door especially at 10 years old. To me, a major team is classified as a team thats will play anybody any where, win or lose with the ultimate goal of the kids getting to play tough competition week in and week out. I know all the folks in the stands(and some coaches) just want to see little Timmy hit a homerun. However, I get more out of watching little Timmy battle at the plate, fouling off ball after ball agaisnt some stud pitcher throwing heat than watching him hit a meaningless homerun off a potential rec ball pitcher throwing a 40mph fastball right down the pipe, not hitting his spots.

Some folks enjoy going around collecting trophies, some dont, some like watching their kid in tough situations, competitive games and learning how to LOSE, not just win!

Major is just a label at this age, its what you want out of your team and kids that matter! And if you're the Head Coach of your team than its your decision, not the parents!

For me the difference between one level and the next is always pitching.

That's all nice in theory but how long do you think a coach can keep his team together by playing all majors if his team is an average AAA team? Teams like the East Cobb Braves, Stealth and Yard Dogs have beaten some decent AAA teams by an average of 12-15 runs each game. Does that mean those teams are majors?

Being a major team means you can compete at that level, no different then the different levels of minor league ball. You need some talent and development in your game over time, just going out and playing majors doesn't make a major team. Just look at a couple of teams listed as majors, a couple of them can barely beat AAA teams and everyone knows that.

It's more than pitching. It starts with defense, then pitching, then offense.
One of my favorite teams in 11U soon to be 12U is the GA Bandits that I first saw at 9U in the SNIT.
I got to see the Bandits again in the Battle of the South this year. Yes they now have great hitting and have always had good pitching and even better pitching now, but what sets them apart from other teams is that their defense is phenomenal.
Pitching is key, but you have defense to back them up and you have to have enough offense to win.
