Folks, it is interesting how some of the games turned out at TC State. For those of us who do not know all the teams and their ability, trying to figure out who are fighting to be a top tier team is confusing:

Holly Springs beats the Jags & GA Jackets, but loses to HP Chilidogs.
HP Chilidogs loses to Diamond Dawgs & OTC.
Diamond Dawgs loses to OTC.
OTC goes to semi finals.

Jags beat the Cougars, but lose to GA Jackets (who beat the titans).
GA Jackets lose to Select Navy (who lost to Jags).
Jackets beat Jags (beat Cougars) and go to semi finals.

I'm not sure what to make of it all. I would like to get some help:

Premier:
Bandits

Top tier: (in no order)
Sandtown
Team GA

In the hunt (?):
Really not sure which EC team is the best.
643 Cougars
643 Jags
GA Jackets (earned it this weekend)
OTC (earned it this weekend)
Titans
HP Chili
Holly Springs
Select Red
Select Navy
Cville Rookies
Who else?

Any thoughts?

I think that it is much to early to sort out what teams will be ready to play next spring. Reason for this thinking is that I know that not only are there some great players out there but that there is also some great coaches that have not had the time to properly prepare these teams that have just been together for a couple of months.

In the Triple Crown Fall State I saw some pitchers that were close to being ready but gave up too many walks to win. In this game you have to force the other team to beat you and not beat yourself. I saw one very close game that was lost when the pitcher allows 4 walks in one inning that ultimately cost this team the game.

I was very impressed with the quality of the games especially this early and was also impressed with the enthusiam shown by the fans. I thought this was as good a fall tournament that we have ever played in.

Got to add:

Elite Gamers Red - I wish they had played in the big one. They've been playing in Monroe, and won a 12U tourney. I don't think any 11U team has beaten them, and they've got a winning record vs 12's.

Mill Creek-Red - Didn't play the big one, but won an 11U Grand Slam tourney with 9 decent teams in it walking away.

Collins Hill - won at 1 of the 3 Dobbs Creek events and beat Cartersville in the finals. They are missing too many players to other sports to do Cobb, but they've cleaned up elsewhere.

Didn't a few of the teams this past weekends pick up extra players who will not be on their spring teams? If so, some teams may not have even looked like they will look in the spring. Not that we are among the elite, but our spring team has not even played together yet.

I would agree with Bmoser on this one - these 3 teams have to be considered too. I'm sure sward would love to keep the 2 players he borrowed from the MC Red team this past weekend too !!

This was definitely the case with at least 3 teams. Whether or not they remain with those teams for the Spring is another question

Bandits picked up one kid to help out with the catching and pitching that will not play spring ball with us but the 2 pitchers and one catcher should be fully recovered by then so we should be all right.

We had two kids from Mill Creek that filled spots we are missing due to FB. I would love to have these guys, but they are committed with MC. Both kids we were missing are key players...which would leave us one roster spot to fill.

I know of at least 2 other teams besides the Bandits and GA Select Red that bolstered their rosters for the TC event. Neither made the final 4. Nothing wrong with that, its just Fall. Some teams have to do it, or they wont have enough players to compete.

Hey Guys. I wouldn't scoff at my last place (or close to it) HOCO CUBS. They've won 2 tournaments this fall and were limping. Elite Gamers beat us 6-5 and we've beaten OTC twice. Plus, we were missing two of our starting pitchers and a big bat. What you saw at TC was not the real Cubs.

There are a whole lot of good teams out there and it will be interesting to see what happens.

By the way, we need a team to play in Macon this weekend if anyone isn't doing anything. We would also love to play anyone that wants to as the fall progresses and winter comes. TAKE CARE GUYS!

I watched the Jackets and they looked really good and then we played the Jackets and they looked really bad. The Fall is not a good time to develop consistenty. Holly Springs looked good up to the Prime Time game and then they just did not get it done but again I think that all teams fell into this category due to it being fall and not being able to work hard on the little things that make a difference especially in close games.

Indeed fall baseball is a hard one to put your finger on. With so many fall sports taking precedence over baseball teams scramble to find rental and replacement players during tournament games. Sometimes even teams combine as I believe the Chili Dogs did with Prime Time for the Triple Crown Fall State. The Georgia Jackets have a gold and a white team but combined both teams on one roster for the fall.

This weekend at the USTBA Fall State tournament there were players from all over playing on teams just for the tournament. How'd things turn out? Oddly usually strong teams like the Chili Dogs and Duluth Wildcats ended up in the second tier bracket. In the top tier bracket ECB Scorpions were tough but fell to the Ga Jackets in the semis. ECB Titans were then able to avenge a tough loss to the Jackets from the Triple Crown fall state to win the championship.

That's just the way it goes in the fall. Hence you can't put too much stock in the results but it can give you a slight indication of what these teams may be like in the spring.

Fred Hill is the manager for the Jackets. E-mail me for his contact info.

Here's my Top 25

Elite Teams
- Bandits - do we need to say anything here?

Not quite Elite Teams
- 643 Cougars - if they haven't messed up their chemistry
- 643 Jaguars - Kennesaw finally coming around?
- Team Georgia - they're going to have to travel like Bandits to play like them
- Sandtown - would be Elite if everyone comes back, but rumors are swirling

Top-level Major Teams
- ECB Titans - is the Albany pitcher coming back?
- Georgia Jackets A - not sure if A team is gold or white but the A team will be good
- Holly Springs Express - the little team that could; wins with defense
- ECB Scorpions - will be interesting to watch this team

Mid-level Major Teams
- ECB Stars - not sold on this team yet but great hitting
- ECB Astros - might be adding some nice pieces, but loses best pitcher
- HP Chilidogs - biggest team in state, need to show some consistency
- Midway Dirty Dawgs - could have some surprises
- Stixx Baseball - assuming they are still a team

Others to watch . . . could beat Top Level Majors on any given day
- Select - Red - need to see them against the big boys
- Select - Navy - ditto
- Collins Hill - just wins baby
- Duluth Wildcats - always ready for an upset
- Georgia Jackets B - home made scrimmage built right in
- Mill Creek - may be best of this group
- Sharon Springs Black - this park is getting watered down
- Acworth Warriors - added some nice pitching
- Sandy Plains Wildcats - some good pitchers on this team
- Alpharetta A's - would like to see this team more often
- OTC Young Guns - showed they can play in Fall

I like it Stinger...put it all out there, support your opinions succinctly. Who else will step up?

Oh, almost forgot...one of us has to go back to our 9U predictions now that 10U is done, and post some of the better predictions (okay to cite kudos and bragg on oneself) and bring back some of the hair brain ones (w/o naming names, would show poor form, and we can always go back and find it if we are that determined to throw a fellow poster under the bus).

Since Papa is impartial (because he doesn't make predictions), I nominate the wise man from the North.

Sorry Titan, bound to leave somebody out. Put them in the last group. At least you guys come up North to play the big boys. If Chain or Line Drive ever did that, they might be in my list too.

Baseball - Just what exactly have the Titans done to jump ahead of 643 Cougars who finished 2nd at Cooperstown? And no, I have no affiliation with 643. But the Titans loss to Scorpions, Jackets and tie with Chilidogs (all good teams) doesn't quite show the record I would expect from your Tier 2 group. Good team but not that good.

TIER1 I agree with, but TIER 2,3,4 and 5 teams are all the same. Just depends who shows up that day and who is on the mound.

Guys, Papa appreciates the confidence you seem to have in the Bandits but I would like to point out that the separation between the Bandits and some of the other top teams is much less than you seem to think. I was at most every single game the Bandits played and can tell you that many of the wins could just have easily been losses. I realize that we have quite a bit of talent that is coached by what I consider to be the best coaches anywhere but I can also tell you without flinching that we have been very fortunate to the point of being called Lucky.

If there was 500 hops that could make a difference, Papa will tell you that 460 of them bounced our way. Of course you still have to put yourself in a position to make the play whichever way it hops but we got some good bounces.

In my opinion there should be no separation from Tier 1 to Tier 2 in your rankings. These Tier 2 team can play the game the right way and are capable of winning every single game they play if they play well and the hops hop their way.

My advice to all teams is the same as always and that is to work hard and work down to the little things that will win games for you when the going gets tough.

Titan1:
On Oct 31st, I picked you guys as a team that could make some noise come Spring...if you were able to retain the best players from both Spring & Fall teams. 10-1 in Fall is nice, but it was all against AA/AAA teams. Winning that Alabama NIT raised my eyebrows.

You'll be pushed up to AAA for 11u, so will have a chance to earn more respect, but AAA is going to be much deeper than it was in 10U.

Most of us on this board are Atlanta-centric. We don't think about teams outside our little World nearly enough (except the Bandits)...until they come into town a smack us in the face like the Albany Stixx did last Spring, or like the Cartersville Rookies did this Fall.
