I love the Sandy Plains organization and Papa hopes that they go all the way to the "Ship". You have already represented Georgia well and we are proud of you but Papa wants you to "Finish the Drill". Good luck to you guys.

Sandy Plains will be facing the Louisiana Rip Seniors in the next round. Tough game this morning in a 3-1 win over the Barnstormers. They had a lefty that had a great slurve that kept the Cats off balance. Another great pitching performance, solid defense and a few well placed hits got the job done. Now to the Elite 8.

Sandy Plains Wildcats Run Ends at the Elite 8
After the Wildcats jumped out to a first inning 5-0 lead, the team from Louisiana chipped away over the next 5 innings to pull even in the 5th inning at 5-5. The bayou boys brought in their ace closer to close out the sixth after pulling ahead 7-5 in the top of the inning. The Cats represented Georgia well and ended their season on a great run at Cooperstown. Proud of you boys!

I coached the 12U Wildcats in '08 and we went 7-3 and made it to the last game on Wednesday before falling to the team that finished 2nd. We finished 28th and had a blast!

You are the first SP team to surpass that and I believe you finished as the highest seed and went farther in the bracket play than any other SP team. Great job! You have just raised the bar! Congratulations!

This week, its the Duluth Destroyers who will keep Georgia on their minds. Look for them to make a strong run in week 8. They could go 6-0 in pool.

Is the Duluth team a new team or have they changed names. I don't remember seeing them at any of the tournaments we attended.

They are a GGBL team that played in the AA division. Talked to the coach at the end of season GGBL Tourny and he said they were picking up a couple of boys that had played up during the season. Strong hitting team but short on pitching. Sounds like they filled some holes.

PaPa,
They played in GGBL, and just few tourneys. High AA team who can get White hot with the bats. Very streaky. 1/2 their team are large powerful kids, the other 1/2 are tiny pesky mosquito's who will make you scratch their bite until it bleeds. They picked up 2 arms from the 13U Suwanee Stix (kids who have always played up) for C'Town. These 2 are Major caliber players who are making their 2nd trip, so bring some experience with them.

The Destroyers game fits Cooperstown like a glove. The huge strike zones work to their advantage. One boy just finished 7th in Roadrunner, so they've got some speed mixed in there too.

I think they drew well, but its hard to tell sometimes with the Northern teams that don't play USSSA.

I'm guessing they go 5-1 or 6-0. Bracket play all depends upon how hot they are at that time. This team is fun to watch...ANYTHING can happen when they play. Keystone Cops and the 1927 Yankees rolled into one, and each pitch, it changes, and you don't know which one it is until after the dust settles.

A few of these boys were regulars in 6U and 7U up in Dalton, Ringgold, and Chattsworth. North GA Bulldogs back then. Head Coach is a big ole Alabama-boy Police Sargent who's head is the size of a Volkswagon (he's a close friend of mine, so I can say that...you might want to just call him SIR).

Coach Troy might recall him, they've had a few discussions way back when....he had those Bandits pinned on the mat more than once, but those slippery little w'ascals kept bunting it just over that stink'n line. I swear that line was moving!

bmoser: You will glad to hear that the Boynton Bandits are still alive and well in the 6 year old division. They just won the 6U Dizzy Dean World Series so it looks like we might be doing it all over again. This is a great group of 6 years old that play just because they love playing. Papa's up for another ride if they are.

I wish I had a dollar for each time they'll be asked "where's Boynton?"

I wonder if they are real small and lightning fast.

Georgia has been noticed more at Cooperstown in 2011 than in any other previous year and that is just my humble opinion.

One more week left in the 12U season, and looks like the Duluth Destroyers might put the Cherry on top tonight.

Destroyers are now 5-0, after "E" served up a Knuckle-Curve sandwich to those Michiganders with a Goose Egg on the side. Our Ga boys are currently the #10 seed, and tonight, they have their "Suwanee Sensation" on the mound for their final pool game at 7PM. Its on the Cooperstown web site tonight, so give them a look and cheer them on.

I want 1 more 12U prediction to come true before 12U ends...c'mon Destroyers...I gotta have it...show those Toluca Thunder boys from California how we ball in Georgia...

bmoser: Do you think that this might be the most successful year that Georgia has ever enjoyed at the friendly confines of Cooperstown, NY. I know that it seems that we have a contender every week so far.

I've only been following Cooperstown since 10U when the Bandits and 6-4-3 went, but of the 3 years I've watched, this year has been Georgia's most successful by a wide margin.

This week, Georgia has 3 teams in the top half of the pool results. The Duluth Destroyers ran the table at 6-0 to pocket the #8 seed, the Kings of Dawsonville/Northern Forsyth County went 4-2, and Gwinnett's Collins Hill Black at 3-3. These 3 teams went 13-5 combined. Well done!

As we all know, it gets a lot tougher starting today's bracket play.
I'm hoping we have 1 team still playing this time tomorrow morning.

The Duluth Destroyers not only went 6-0 and earned the #8 seed in pool play, tonight they advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 2-1 victory over the Lower Marion Lynx of Pennsylvania. The "Suwanee Sensation" pitched a complete game Gem allowing only 1 run, and striking out 10.

Tonight's game winning hit was a 2 run homer driven over the Center field wall by the Destroyers big strong 1st baseman...A.M. in the P.M.. I can see A.M.'s "awe shucks" smile all the way from here...1300 miles away.

Another week in Cooperstown where a Georgia team will be playing on Thursday. The Virginia Baysox are the Duluth Destroyers next opponent. The game is web cast on Cooperstown Dreams Park's web site at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Congratulations to Coach Scott and all the Destroyer family's for making it this far. Best of luck tomorrow morning!

Our Duluth Destroyers fell to the Virginia Baysox this morning. They fought hard to the end, and even made the Baysox bring in a reliever in the 5th inning to quell a Destroyer rally that had begun. In the end, the Baysox were just too much for our guys this time around. It did go the full 6 innings, but the Baysox prevailed 13-4.

Coach Scott said the Baysox were "the real deal", and he was as impressed with their sportsmanship as he was with their skills. "Classy group" is the words Coach Scott used.

Coach Scott was very proud of his AA team for going 7-1 in Cooperstown, making it to the Sweet 16, and staying on the field with a Major team for 6 complete innings. We are too! Safe trip home.
