reallycoach, sounds like you are in or have had some bad experiences with coaches maybe not in it for the right reasons. No doubt there are coaches out there who do what you say. But from what I know of the teams in this tournament all are quality teams with coaches who are in it for the right reasons - to develop their players and teach them life lessons through the sport. Tournaments during any school break are tough because most have to bring in a player or two to field a team and those who stay in town want to play so it is a double-edge sword.

reallycoach--i could not have said it better myself. thank you for summing it up perfeclty. and M.Bare--if my post came across that way I apologize. Coach of the Raptors is a classy guy--have met him multiple times and spoken with him--did not mean to insinuate anything by my comments. I should have started a new thread about this--I do not want to take away from the Raptors victory. Great victory by a really nice group of kids and coaches. My posts (and I obviously should have been more specific) were dealing with what I have witnessed where it was so blatant and obvious that some teams and coaches were literally just brining "hired guns" in to help them win the tournament....good luck to all

Following this discussion and was surprised to see how it veered off course with canacorn and cnettles accusing teams of bringing in hired guns. My initial thought was if any of the teams in the finals brought in what would equate to 1/3 of a team in Major players, the scores would have been indicative of that. After bones clarification it was made clear that those two posters were targeting the Raptors so I thought I would do a little research. Looked at the Raptors site and counted 10 players in their picture all of whom look like the same kids in all the other pictures on their site so I called a parent on the team whom we know and asked what the deal was. Told me they picked up one player on Sunday from another ECB team to fill in for one who was ill. Said in the years they have been on the team they have never brought in another player but due to the fact that they ended up playing bracket play last Spring Break with only 8 players thought it best to have an additional player especially with the heat. Also said that that player sat more than anyone and hit last. I know the truth is not as dramatic as the fiction but you owe it to the other coaches, parents and players to get your facts straight before you post. Congrats to the Raptors!

You are correct, congrats to the Raptors!! They are a well run team lead by a quality head coach, he did the right thing by sitting the pick up player and using him sparingly so that he wasn't the difference in that game. Let's use this tournament win to build towards the rest of the season, big one coming up and there are two tough pool games to deal with.

Couldn't agree with this more. I have total respect for Jason and his team.

Actually not in this situation. Just commented on somethig I've been seeing and hearing about all to much this year. I just beleive we need to get back to the reason we all got in this to start with, developing young men. But no doubt there are still a lot of really good coaches out there. However, I also beleive we have more coaches being pushed by out of control parents.Don't know but I can't remeber the last 11 year old drafted in the MLB. More importantly if you have a player who just does not have the athletic ability or skill to play in the classification don't sit them, refund the parents money, explain the situation honestly and help them find a team a level down. Now if you did this becasue you found a better player mid season, I wish you all the things you deserve.

M Bare tO be clear, bringing in players for sick, injured, unavaialbe players is a requirement of managing a team. Just don't do it purley to win games do it so you are eligable to play in the game.
