His son was on the team. He's not the manager. Perhaps you meant "Vicente Conde's Team Clap Bat,featuring Dante Bichette's son" but that doesn't have quite the ring to it. |

The Astros last year did not go down to Tampa and beat the best. The Astros beat Tampa drillers which was a AA team and lost to 2 other teams in the War on I-4 in Tampa.

Itsbaseballtime: Not sure why one would look at at the last two years. This is an entirely different team than last year. Different players, different coaches. The 12U Astros only lost one game to a 12U Georgia team all year (tourney or non-tourney game) and played up because they won the Atl SuperNIT beating Roadrunners, MBA Pride and Beyel and after going to Tampa and beating the best there. Lot closer scores and a lot more parity in this age group this year in GA with HP, .45s. RR and Braves all legitimately in the mix this year; some great competition and great games left to be played.

Skeeter, I have gone back a year. The Astros have only lost 2 games, to all teams playing Except HP, in 2 years.... HP-they have not played them.
Look at records vs teams beaten. Look at record vs teams lost to.
Pretty Telling. I know someone has started this thread before. No one wants to go there. It is eye opening.....
My 8 yr old team can beat a good AA 9 u team.
Yawn....Lets stick to this year please. Different teams, different coaches, etc.

The Astros approach at 13u has always been to spend the middle of the season playing up at 14U. It is not about egos or running from the competition in your age group, it is a development philosophy that has worked well for many years. Especially for the 8th graders that will be starting HS in the fall.
The approach is not for everyone, but it is one that has proven beneficial to the Astros players.
From personal experience a couple years ago, it taught our boys to not be intimidated by anyone they play. |

Much like the southside teams are doing now. The southside teams are competing against the top northside teams without all the boys that have already made their high school teams this year. These boys will not be available for travelball till May. I've read about teams here and there without kids due to injuries and playing out of state. These southside teams have played in the SNIT and other tournaments with as much as half their team missing, yet played anyway. Could the ECB/North ATL programs be sitting where they are right now without all the top eight graders playing 13u baseball??? I THINK NOT. A program with thousands of kids -vs- local travel(1-3 teams)programs. I bet ECB would be down to 1-2 top teams instead of 4-6 teams. This is not a ECB bashing post and was never meant to be. I just wanted to air out a little about the top major teams in 13u. Lots of excuses about why this team is not number one and why this team is or should be. The kids have reached a large stepping stone in their baseball careers and some have chose to step up to "The Big Leagues". This may have hurt some programs but have help build better players and men in the process. Only time will tell if the birds come home to roost or continue their flight. I know that I'm very proud of my sons first year at high school ball as a 8th grader playing on JV. I am just sorry that his team mates on his travel team had as many boys leave at the same time as they did.
On a happier note... Looks like the RoadRunners have come around along with the Gammers up in Cumming this past weekend both making it to the ship. RoadRunners came back in the top of the last inning to win it all. MGBA also played great ball down in Fl. last weekend to have a good showing for the locals.
I think we've beat this top 13u team dead horse long enough. Makes for interesting cooler talk, but really doesn't mean much this this early in the season. |

Truth be told, the only time discussions should occur about who the top teams are is in late July. Only then has everyone had a chance to get all their players together and play enough for comparison. (even then there may be some subjectivity due to teams beating other teams, but the agument should be a lot more limited than it is today.)

this is my opinion, i think you can have discussions on who the best teams are every week. Obviously the top teams and opinions will change each week as rosters change, injuries, as teams improve, who teams play each week, etc... They have these "top-teams" discussions in every other sport all during the season, even before the season, college & pro, by the water cooler, talk-show radio, etc...so why shouldnt we do it. we all know it doesnt really matter and its rarely accurate.
Or, we could just wait till the end of the year, in july when everyone is done and on to football and nobody cares, in july, most will be talking about next year anyway. IMO, i think it would get pretty boring on here if all we did was pat each other on the back each week, right darnell?, its o.k. to trash talk a little & make predictions & be opinionated, thats what makes it fun, lets turn up the volume!!!. In the Fall all i heard was "wait til spring", now that its spring all i hear is "wait till july", what, no way, the landscape may be completely different by then, lock & load now, gotta be a little thick-skinned sometimes but lets turn up the heat now before its all over!!! hey, just my opinion! |

All the games will matter and he hard fought. The top two team will play a best 2 out of 3 game series on Sunday for all the marbles.
Committed:
Braves .45's Homeplate Roadrunners
Maybe:
Stixx
"NOT IN":
Astros
We have now asked the EC Pride to be the 6th team and are waiting for a reply.
Teams that are now committed are:
Georgia Roadrunners
EC Braves
EC Colt .45's
Homeplate Chilidogs
Stixx Baseball
"NOT IN":
EC Astros
Still no response from the EC Pride.

Braves ended up winning in a close one against, and lets not forget about them spanking the Astros 11-2 early in the season although it was a scrimmage game, all the braves need is a little more consistency and they might take the top... |

Too bad Smoke didn't get his dream final. He predicted a Sand Gnats vs Spiders final which he dubbed the "All Insect Bowl." |

congratulations to the "gnats", the "spiders" and the "45s" on "validation weekend", all of whom had a great showing in the tournament and almost made it to the finals, job well done. |

When you are talking about a scrimmage, you are talking about practice. Not, not a game. Practice. We talking about practice. Man, we talking about practice....not a game...practice. (my tribute to Iverson) |

Has anyone heard about a team trying to sell their SNIT berth on EBAY? Hmmmm.....wonder why a team would consider selling something like that so early in the season? |

That's awful, even worse is a team that has to bid on a berth thru ebay because their team can't win a berth out right.
