Seminole Tony, it's because they finished 4th in their pool. SS and RR both finished 3rd. Top 3 out of each pool advanced to bracket regardless of overall standings. This is why alignment of the pools was so important in this tourney as it determined who would make it to bracket play.

Stixx just beat the Central Florida Vipers 3-2. Anyone have a report on the other quarterfinal games?

No gifts here. HP just eliminated the Diamond Cutters. You know, the team that beat the Astros and RRs. Like it or not, HP is the real deal.

I here ya whit417..The entire tourney has been full of surprises in "Pool" play, congrats on your victory, but NC Diamond, ECB Astros, and RR all had a tough road during pool play and leading into bracket; HP did not. Still with bracket play you did not jump into the fire like the others, but I humbly give credit where it is due. HP moves as a result of wins. Congrats on your victory.

C'mon guys. There are still three games to play for the champion. But, whatever happens, it can be acknowledged that this is a Major Level category in the largest Super NIT in America (I think...). This has been great competition and great teams playing all the way. Whatever happens...no qualifications, no excuses, no justifications but just good baseball so far.

Hats off to Hp georgias best hope left... you guys brought it... on a side note the 45s sent the astros home as a 1 and done (5-0) and the road runners did not impress who's #1 in ga

Agreed, but maybe next time they could be a little more humble. Tooting your own horn before a tournament has even been played is really not a good idea. Lucky for them it didn't back fire. Congrats on making it to the end HP! Can't wait to see who wins. I still say BB will win. I do stand corrected though....there is a Georgia team that can beat the Astros, good job to the 45's on that!

The great and almighty dragon has been slain (recall the "Slay the Dragon" post in a Triple Crown topic)! What do we do now, the Astros are just as beatable as everyone else.........oh no the world is no longer spinning on its original axis.

Congrats Chili Dogs! Great bunch of kids and coached to never quit.

Now onward and upward to competitive baseball and enough of the "we are the best" baloney.

I guess we know the answer. What a difference a year makes. Didn't they go through the Roadrunners, Gooses Gamers, MBA Pride and Beyel Brothers to win last year's SNIT? Congrats to Home Plate and the other GA teams who went deep. Would have been a shame to give the title up to a FL team.

Couldn't agree with that statement more! I thought about saying the same thing. Maybe now people will stop tooting their own horns so early. You know what they say about karma......stay humble people so we can all enjoy your victories!! Good job HP.

Its time to show a little love for Homeplate. They earned it and thus deserve it. Beating 7 teams in two days is impressive. HP talked the talk and walked the walk. Good coaching, good players and good fans. You played great and should enjoy the victory.....although be careful.....don't want to get penalized again for excessive celebration. (I would put a smiley face here if I knew how.)

So the First Chapter of the 2011 Season has come to a close and its probably fair to say that its still the Big Boys at the Top (in alphabetical order):

45's
Astros
Homeplate
Roadrunners
Stixx

Who will it be in Chapter Two?

P.S And a special thanks goes out to Whit417 who set a record today for the total number of postings in the span of 10 hours. Your updates made us feel as though we were there in the stands beside you. In fact at one point during the Stixx game I had to send my wife out for more popcorn as I couldn't leave the computer for fear of missing another update. The drama was riveting (another smiley face).

The Stixx game was pretty intense. The Stixx had the winning run 80 feet away, but...in the end HP came through and finished in extra innings. Great tournament.

Here is a question for you all out there. Is the Atl SNIT the largest tournament in the southeast (or even U.S.)? This may be a naive question, but are there any tournaments that are larger in terms of size?

Great weekend.

Good Job Chilidogs, I love to see Great coaching and hard work overcome teams that just try win by just recriuting the best atheletes they can find and sticking them out there. Proves that there is alot more to baseball than just size and strength.

Yes.....definitely the most significant in the US. This could be seen as the Crown Jewel of 13U Travel Ball. Haven't checked Travel Ball Select this morning but HP will surely be the #1 team in the country ahead of Tamateros, Voodoo etc. You guys are definitely the team to beat.

Are we missing something? I seem to think we are missing one of the teams that went the distance. Actually was the last team standing representing ECB. So far this season has played & and run ruled the Astros-and defeated the Stixx & Roadrunners and gave the Beyel Brothers a run for the money in the semi’s, with leaving bases loaded for the win to the ship with a score of 5-3. Not taking anything away from HP. Great Game and Win…I would say out of the following teams this season as it stands so far, not one of the listed teams can assume a win when competing with one another. (Not in any order) Astros-45s-Braves-HP-Stixx. This so called forgotten team also lost there top players to the Astros with 7 new players on the team. Just saying!!! Once again Congrats to HP well earned & deserved!!!!! And a lot more 13u BB to Come this season.
Go Br--es...

Another horn tooter. A lot of teams lost players to the Astros and have rebuilt this season. I would say most teams have more than half new players on their teams. The Br--es did have a pretty easy ride in this tourney until the BB. It is way too early to start bragging on your team. The only team that should walk away at this point saying they are the best is HP. Just wish they had waited until the tournament was over though. As I said before, it makes it so much easier to celebrate teams victories when you can just walk out on the field every weekend and prove your team is the best rather than brag or make excuses on an NWBA post! HP had a pretty easy pool, but proved themselves ALL the way through bracket play. Look froward to seeing all of theses Georgia teams meet again. This weekend proved that many Georgia teams can compete with the best!

Yeah, looks like the Braves had a good run. Also looks like they might have had a easier pool. They have proven to be a solid team, but I wouldn't put alot of stock in the final score of a scrimmage, especially early in the season when there is nothing to prove. It will be interesting later in the summer to see how some of these teams with payed coaches will do after the highschool seaon is over and the coaches go back to coaching their older teams. I know of one team that dropped off considerable when that happened last year.

Great weekend for the Chilidogs for sure! Probably not fair to list them as the #1 team in the country just yet. Some of the best 13u teams do not even play 54/80 baseball. The Lamorinda Monarchs and MBA Pride "Elite" play 60/90 exclusively.

Leon Medical Center is a pretty good team too and has punched their ticket to the E32. The team that HP beat last night in the finals got smoked in the qtr. finals at the Florida Super NIT by the Tampa Crush (another pretty good team).

That said; the Chilidogs deserved the win this weekend and by going 7-0 showed that they are among the best teams in the country.

Just understand that "homerun hitter" is not affiliated with Homeplate. It sounds to me that it is just another imposter. We let our kids do the talking on the field. Our kids love playing together and are coached by the best. They are very humble and the parents are enjoying every minute of it. We look forward to playing all of the "top teams" in Georgia. We will see our ECB friends at the Backyard Brawl in April.
