Well I am with Homeplate and I'm not here to toot any horns. I am hear to give the facts. HP played some very good baseball this weekend. Timely hits, great pitching and defense, but most of all team chemistry and 2nd to none coaching. HP is still not the team to beat. We had a couple of games that could have went either way. We made the plays or got the hits to win them both. Next time we may be on the other side. But to mention us as #1 by Travel Ball Select is a bit of a stretch. Are boys played very hard this weekend and earned everyone of those 7 wins. Maybe our pool play was not the toughest, but playing 4 games on Sunday going through Academy Dodgers, NC Diamond Cutters, Stixx and Beyel Brothers we found out that we can play with anyone. We are not, I repeat, WE ARE NOT the team to beat. We had a good weekend and enjoyed the competition and the wonderful weather. I would not be shocked if some of these horn tooters arent' HP imposters. Just knowing the parents on the team, doesnt sound like our parents.

I am sure that nobody, including the players themselves, thought that the astros would go undefeated for the season...I am also sure that the astros were never out coached or the players out worked....the comment above regarding "timely hitting" is the key. Sometimes you have it and other times you fall victim to it.

Homeplate is obviously a very good team to have won a tournament like this. I don't think losing it means you are not. It's a long season.

Whit417, Humility is something we try and teach all of our kids. Most people respect the humble team, not the one that toots its horn after every game.

Great job HP boys. keep up the hard work.

Look forward to playing sometime soon.

Good Word batting last. I didn't have the benefit of seeing the HP pool games and brackets, but the Stixx game was mighty good. At the bottom of the 6th the Stixx were 90 feet away from a win. But...HP still did what they had to do to win. Good show HP...and good show to all those finalist teams. Looking forward to much more ball ahead.

WOOOOOOO! HOOOOOOOO! I am soooooo happy to see that the HP team won. Stop whining people. They had to play games just like everyone else in the tournament right? Why does everyone assume that a certain team(s) are number one allllllllll the time. Just play ball!!! My son is a Baseball player in the 14U division and his friends are on the HP CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM! We couldn't be any happier for them. Beyel is a GREAT team from Florida. Ask them about Cooperstown this summer. As Floridians ourselves we knew who the good teams were too. Good Luck to everyone in the division. Keep up the hardwork boys and coaches and have lots of fun parents and families. Isn't that what it's all about. The BEST can be beaten and the worst CAN Win! Kudos to all the teams out there!

No "tooting our own horn" here. Just not going to sit here silent while people try to say we have an easy pool, easy bracket, etc. I am well aware that there are several teams just in this area that could beat us on any given day. Our boys had to work very hard this weekend and have great respect for all of our opponents. Humility is not lacking on our team at all.

Batting Last.....Great post about your team...I like that you stand up for your teams parents (posters OR posers) and are humble about it all. The way it should be. You and the HP family should be extremely proud of your boys and coaches. It is hard enough to win 4 games on championship Sunday, much less against great competition in a GREAT tourney. Congrats to HP..

not sure why anyone could doubt HP. just goes to show how strong the teams in this area are. we know the Stixx and B. Bros. very well and know they are for real. to run through sunday in this tourney could be one of the toughest. maybe they should have more than Snit in GA??????

Congrats to HP! Doesn't matter if people think you had an easier road to the 'ship, you made it there. That's all the counts in the end. It does seem like there has been quite a bit of horn tooting from HP fans. That will annoy some, but I say enjoy the ride.
As for the ECB Br_ _v_s, good job going as far as you did in the tournament. I'm confused by the comments that they run ruled the Astros. Was it a real tournament game? Scrimmage games are usually just for practice so I'm not sure about bragging rights on that one.
ECB 45s- way to step it up! The Astros beat 45s in a couple of championship games so far this season. Their win shows they made the necessary adjustments.
Stixx-Gave HP a run! This team seems to getting better with each tournament.
As for the Astros-just because they lost in this tournament doesn't mean the world has come to a halt as some make it sound. They have won 3 or 4 tournaments so far this season so I don't think their season is a total bust because of one weekend. I'm sure the coaches and players will learn from it and make adjustments.
Looking forward to a great season. I'm sure it will be full of surprises and upsets just like we saw this past weekend.

HP is #4 in the nation today in USSSA Power Ratings, just behind MBA Pride Elite. Very Impressive! I'm not sure how they placed with Travel Ball Select (I'm too cheap to pay for a premium membership).

Yes.....definitely the most significant in the US. This could be seen as the Crown Jewel of 13U Travel Ball. Haven't checked Travel Ball Select this morning but HP will surely be the #1 team in the country ahead of Tamateros, Voodoo etc. You guys are definitely the team to beat.

The Stixx game was pretty intense. The Stixx had the winning run 80 feet away, but...in the end HP came through and finished in extra innings. Great tournament.

Here is a question for you all out there. Is the Atl SNIT the largest tournament in the southeast (or even U.S.)? This may be a naive question, but are there any tournaments that are larger in terms of size?

Great weekend.

Its time to show a little love for Homeplate. They earned it and thus deserve it. Beating 7 teams in two days is impressive. HP talked the talk and walked the walk. Good coaching, good players and good fans. You played great and should enjoy the victory.....although be careful.....don't want to get penalized again for excessive celebration. (I would put a smiley face here if I knew how.)

So the First Chapter of the 2011 Season has come to a close and its probably fair to say that its still the Big Boys at the Top (in alphabetical order):

45's
Astros
Homeplate
Roadrunners
Stixx

Who will it be in Chapter Two?

P.S And a special thanks goes out to Whit417 who set a record today for the total number of postings in the span of 10 hours. Your updates made us feel as though we were there in the stands beside you. In fact at one point during the Stixx game I had to send my wife out for more popcorn as I couldn't leave the computer for fear of missing another update. The drama was riveting (another smiley face).

Congratulations to The SNIT Champs Home Plate Chili Dogs Jones ! This is a team with a very unique combination of Talent, Coaching, Character and I think most of all Chemistry. One might could argue that their pool was lighter than others but come Sunday they had to prove their game on the diamond. Lots of good teams, good weather and great baseball. Hats off to all that played and competed on the big stage this past weekend.

Now thats bold comments, com'on man you shouldnt put a team on the hot seat like that. With all these teams in this tournament, WOW!!! I'm sure the Astros nor Beyel Brothers appreciated that.

No bold statements, just my opinion at the time. I will always correct my statements when proven wrong. I did correct it on this thread. I don't think the Astros or BB's ever feel like they are put on a hot seat, probably just flattered that someone felt their team was that good. Maybe you should change your "Dragon" statement and be done with this. Time to move on, a lot more baseball to be played this season.....
