WE are down to 12 teams and the pools are set. The forecast looks good. It should be a great weekend.

Yep looks like the Astros are still the top team out East Cobb. No other team is really even close. |

Very true, but the ECB Colt 45's, Extreme and Braves looked really good in this tournament! Way to go ECB!! Congrats to the champs the Astros on many BIG wins! |

One would hope so. They got to pick all of the players they wanted before anyone else was able to make their picks. If you can't win doing that, you're a pretty poor coach.
I saw the end of the Extreme - Titans game. Talked with a few parents and found out these 2 teams played a 3 hour+ game on Thursday. Titans took a 9-0 lead but Extreme came back to tie and they went 9 innings before Titans won. Today, Extreme got the better of them and eliminated the Titans 3-2. My first impression is that both teams looked pretty good for early season and will be 2 teams that can scare or beat anyone on any given day. I think the Extreme may have a bit more pitching.
Stayed down there to watch the first few innings of Extreme vs Astros. Astros threw their big gun the entire game (I heard he threw almost 100 pitches in the game which seems to be an awful lot IMO for such an early tournament). Extreme lefty struck out the first 2 Astros hitters and then had to be pulled while facing the 3rd batter because his arm began hurting him.
Braves and 45s also had a good game going but 45s appear to be the clear #2 team at ECB in this age group. Still don't know what the Pride has because they weren't there this weekend.
After one weekend, here's my take on things at ECB: 1) Astros 2) 45s 3) Braves 4) Extreme 5) Titans
Until I see the Pride come play against the others, I don't have an opinion for them.

I would call 8 innings and 2 blown leads pretty close the astros haven't seen the last of the 45s. It'll be interesting to see how much tighter that so called gap will get |

From the last 2 weeks it seems that the 45's are the best pool play team at ECB, but on Sundays, when it counts, the Astro's still reign. |

The Astros are a very good team. They're athletic and very well coached. However, I take exception to the comment "no other team is really even close" as it took extra innings for them to get past the 45s tonight. |

The Georgia roadrunners will clear up all the question on who the best team is. They will be at the slugfest to match up against any team there. To bad the Astros will not be attending. We will have to wait for that one take place some other time. |

bball2k10-Yes, the 45's are very good, probably #2 out of EBC, but to call them the best in pool play is crazy when they faced 1 AA team and 1 AAA team that everyone else destroyed. The 45's really did have the easiest ride in pool play out of this tournament. |

It probably won't be until the Super-NIT in 3 weeks until that question is put to rest! |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was kidding when I said that. While I'm sure they are a very good team they have definitely had some favorable match ups in pool play the last TWO weekends, a trend that continues next weekend as well.

I better make 1 correction, both teams the 45's played in pool play were AAA. My point still stands, just knew someone would probably call me on it. Also go look at the Slugfest pool play to see who will sail through their pool play this weekend. |

My understanding is that the Astros have been added to the Slugfest tourny. |

They have been added to Slugfest. They play Sharon Springs Baseball and Alpharetta Cyclones.
See below for brackets:

Ok then Astros, Braves, RR, & 45s. It doesn't get much better than that. Now if only the weather can hold up? |

It's funny how the Astro's didn't fall into the pool where the team dropped out, Pool B. Didn't the Astro's and Sharon Springs play in the finals last year and now only 1 will make it to Gold bracket. The power of East Cobb Baseball

O.k. fair enough but in the last two weeks the 45's and Astros have played head to head and the 45's have lost by a total of 12 runs. One of those loses coming by way of run rule. Both wins crowned the Astros champions of both tournaments which tells me both teams threw everything they had since they were championship games. So with that said I still stand by my statement. |

I am pretty sure the Astors threw their best w/ over 100 pitches thrown at the ECB Extreme, but the Astros have a whole lot of pitching to take any team down. I saw it all weekend! Those boys are big, strong and fast! |

"What you do is so loud, I cannot hear what you say."
Thus far, in these first two tournaments, the Astros have done it. So...until someone else does, it does not really matter what the opponents of the Astros say. But, this season is not one game, one tournament or one week. Let's look back in June and see how things look from there regarding - not what people said - but what teams did. |

Great teams win close games, good teams play great teams close. The AStros are the Dragon. Dont tell me about blown leads, extra innings, or hurt pitcher arms. If u cant slay the Dragon then go work harder, recruit better, coach better, or admit that the other team is better. And trust me its fine to not be on top, being close to the top makes u work cause u can see the prize. Good Luck to all this weekend, and you will need it if u want to SLAY THE DRAGON! |

Checkswing-How can you possibly recruit fairly when the Astros get whoever they want before any other team at ECB???? |

Knucklecurve I'm not just talking about ECB, I'm talking about all travelball teams. Maybe Knockhouse, MGBA, Elite Gamers, Homeplate, Stixx, South Forsyth, etc. should start offering something the kids and parents can't refuse. One might would think the Yankees should win the World Series every year because they pretty much get every player they want. But for some reason the Yankees can't seem to close the deal. Just because you get the "pick of the litter" doesnt mean every team should except the fact that your the best. So my statement still stands "the Astros are still the best team out of EC and nobody is really even close." |

This is a little off subject but ...Did ECB Astros lose any players to high school baseball??? I know it has effected some of the teams mentioned in your post. Could the whole baseball process in other areas of Atl & Ga. be the problem with travel baseball in the state? Kids moving into high school early and diluting the pool of good players in some parts. Gwinnett and surrounding counties also use a feeder system into the high schools that basically teach the same baseball that each local high school uses. Big plus in ball programs! Other areas do not have the feeder system and take kids taught incorrectly or not taught fundamentals at all. This feeder system developes kids at a younger age to become better players. Thus better(and more) travel ball caliber kids.
In our area the rec baseball program has no set fundamentals for "dads" that volunteer to teach . That in turn leaves a lot of teams with coaching by parents would don't really want to be there but have to because no one else will do it. I was one of those 17 years ago. Basic baseball knowledge and no coaching experience. We played and I learned as the games went on. To quote a great phrase "I wish didn't know now what I didn't know then". At least I have a 13 year old that can reap the benifits his older brothers didn't have .
ECB encompasses a muchhhhhhh larger area then any two or three of these teams combined. Gives you a better pool to draw from plus the baseball facilities are very good and a money maker. That brings in good coaching and that in turn brings in good players. Other facilities try the same but just dont have all the pieces in place yet to match dollar for dollar. Travel ball is still evolving around the country and new teams will match ECB in the near future.
But for now Astros sit on top early this season. Enjoy it, it is deserved. You have a true Major powerhouse team. Side note... Some of these other teams will be getting their high schoolers back come the end of April and should give them a run later(hopefully). I'm just sorry that it won't be before the SNIT's. |

Checkswing I would concur in the respect that just getting the pick of players does not guarantee championships. I would also add that, while apparently the Astros get their pick from those trying out at ECB, there is no way to assume that all the best players in Georgia (or otherwise) actually tried out at ECB.
Here is what I do know. Championships are won with quality players, HARD WORK, team play and some luck too (the harder working teams seem to have more good luck). There was a time when ECB was not "ECB." How did they get to be the ECB of today? It was a lot of hard work.
Talent for any kid moves on an upward slope. Hard work does the same. Even when talent plains off, hard work can bump it farther than high talent with little work.
My suggestion? Don't complain about ECB...or any youth baseball team's success. Work harder.
