Looks to be a large amount of interest in the 13u brackets. Division 1 has some powerhouses verbally committed. Any predictions in this Div.? Everybody who is anybody seems to be showing up. It will be interesting to see how they bracket the teams this year. Will there be the East Cobb home field advantage again this year for their teams? How about the gold/silver brackets? Could be anyone of 5-6 teams in the finals. How about Div.2? I'm surprised Gwinnett Titans are playing here. I know most teams are just starting their first practices this week. Just trying to get the baseball fever up!! Lets hear some early trash talkin.

Why would there be ECB home field advantage when the tournament is in Forsyth County? |

Amen!! Gwinnett Titans, D2 after touting the #1 team in USSSA last year. Collins Hill is a solid AAA team, Team Wilson is as good as any and Sawnee Mtn if they get everyone healthy will be tough to beat. |

The sandbagging circus is back in town. Is this a Triple Crown or a triple clown event. |

Someone doesn't know what they are talking about....ECB home field advantage?? This is in Forsyth not at EBC. I predict an ECB team or the Roadrunners to run away with this one, just not sure which ECB team. Could be the ECB Braves, 45's or Extreme. Surprised not to see the ECB Pride in this one yet. Don't know much about division 2, but I will go with Collins Hill. I know they have always been very strong. |

How about NOT dividing the teams into two Divisions until after pool play?? I mean lump all 13u teams together. This would make everyone play pool play to win and not hold their pitchers for bracket play. Every game would count. The better squads should win and go to the top division and so on. I think this would also give the lesser teams a better shot at upsetting and winning their way into the top brackets. Kids can surprise you sometimes. You would have to bring your "A" game for every game. I really do understand the difference in team abilities, but sign up and hope to play the best team in the field. This will make you better(or should). The A1 programs will(or should) still advance. If you can't compete at this level don't sign up. I know the T.D. are in it for the money and that's what makes them break it up into Divisions. Why not let THEM put you into the different Divisions? Take the playing DOWN to win a trophy out of some of the coaches hands. If you want to play up... go for it. Want to play down... state your case for it. Take the age categories(major,AAA) away. Lump them all together and play ball.
I'd love to see 20 great 13u teams compared to hundreds of mediocre teams. Boy have I got off subject. Just passionate about kids ball. Just call it an "OPEN" tournament. Thoughts on one division for SLUGFEST?

seminole tony....i agree with most of your post but i'd like to clarify one thing about the slugfest. we do the slugfest so that we can support our charities with what we hope are sizeable donations. so yes we are in it for the money but not for us personally. breaking into separate classes is not about a tournament director trying get as much money as possible for himself. over the years, our teams have demanded separate classes whether it was usssa (major/aaa/aa) or now triple crown. i wish there was a perfect solution but there's not. after pool play, we will split into gold and silver brackets in each class so that hopefully teams are competing against comparable opponents. |

I really believe in the charities that the Slugfest supports. I just wonder...when do we as parents stop separating kids of the same age group because of skill levels??? This is life, and they will have to learn that not every kid is of equal abilities. Do your best, that's all you can ask of them. Don't candy coat a lower division of a age group as Gold and Silver and say your #1 of division 2 silver group. That's like saying I came in "first out of the tenth row at a Nascar event". Most of the kids will be trying out for high school teams soon and they will be competing against kids older then they are.
To the coaches that want you to separate the teams... You might want to reconsider fielding a team if your boys are afraid of playing against other teams. Coach a rec ball team. Sit the "open" tourneys out and wait for the next hand selected "weak team" tourney that your not toooooo scared of.
I guess I have grown to feel this way after several years of watching teams claim to be "#1 in USSSA" yet dodge the big boys.
My sons aren't the studs of their teams and I'll be the first to admit to being outclassed in any ball game. Yet they play tooth and nail to the end and acknowledge who the better team was at the end of the day. Smile, pack their gear and will be back tomorrow to give it their best again. Not say "lets play a weaker team so we can win".
Sounds like a new thread!! |

This will be a slugfest if the big boys don't hide behind their aces. Team Georgia, Wilson, Gwinnett Titans, and some others have the bats just not the depth at pitching as some of the so-called elite Teams (Braves, Roadrunners, 45's to mention a few respectively of course (cudos to them) but face it thats what makes the difference in these classes. At this age anyone can field a grounder, and catch pop flies , and run, hit but one of the big boys run into trouble out comes their studs to save the day. Cant wait for spring I think there will be some surprises this year!!!!! |

Just the reason to have everyone in one pool. Burn that stud early to save a game and the playing field levels out later. Pitching rules will help the lower teams play with the upper teams.(I bet our coach is wishin I would be quite about this...LOL). Along that line...I understand some teams have some really quality kids playing on their team, but most of them train and nurture these kids to be the players that they have become over years. They're only 13 just like every other teams kids. Is it their fault their kids work harder and are more gifted then others??? Step up, play whom ever lines up against you and give it your best shot. Don't make excuses about them being better before the first pitch. Anyone can lose on any given day.

Ok...How bout some predictions. Who do you have in the final 4, and the ship, and winning the slugfest. Here is my final 4: RR, Stixx, HP, and 45s. That is as long as these teams dont meet early on elimination sunday. I have RR and Stixx in the ship with RR getting the win. |

Looks to be a full 13u field come March 4,5,6th. I wonder if we (all teams involved) will be on the same page as far as baseballs to be used for games. I guess it will be the pitchers preference as to which he'll throw. Also, I wonder which fields the teams will be playin on?? This 13U section has been really quite for awhile. I guess everyone is keeping their cards close to their chest till tournament time. |

Hats off to the folks at Slugfest for getting the schedule out so early. It really helps with travel and lodging arrangements. We got some pretty favorable game times so we don't have to get a hotel on Friday at least. Now if we can just play well enough to not have an early Sunday morning! |

Who has the most favorable pool games?? D1 and D2 looks like a great tourney. Do you agree with the Gold Silver Bronze?? Since several tournaments have been played already any shake ups in top five? |
