OK, to a couple of your points:

As to getting into the talent levels of the different teams, I'm not suggesting that anyone try and add subjectivity to it, merely illustrating that since they didn't play identical opponents, there may be a very valid reason that their records, although the same, perhaps shouldn't be.

As to your point that a 5 seed from a strong region taking the spot of a 4 seed from a weaker region. I'm not suggesting that anywhere. In fact, you are supporting my point that you can make no such claim and that their records can't be used a valid comparison of their true strength because their records are based on playing different opponents. Same thing here.

To the final point, as to coaching to win. Agreed, but do you coach to win each battle (a pool game) or the war (the tournament). What I'm saying is that you don't likely put your 1, 2, 3 pitchers on the mound in games 1, 2, & 3, but likely size up your opponents and do your best to keep some bullets in the chamber for when you need them. You also probably don't throw your guys 6 or 7 innings in a pool game, but go a couple innings each so they can pitch later in the tournament. Once you put the lineup on the field, you play 100% to win with that lineup, but you may not be putting your strongest out there every inning until you have to. I'm not nor have I ever suggested that you tell your kids to not try or that you don't coach the game to win, but your strategy of setting pitching and lineups is likely based on tournament format than a season type of format. I know that we've been in situations where we've clinched the pool and know we'll advance with a pool game left to go, so we throw a #7 or #8 arm in the final pool game, knowing that doesn't give us the best chance to win the game, but also knowing that it's saving a "better" arm for bracket. I guarantee that every kid in the lineup and the kid on the bump that game is trying 100% to win from that point forward.

Anyway, hope you have a good flight. Similar to you, I'm stuck at Logan International which is the worst airport in the US and can thank Legal Seafood for it's one redeeming quality.

ITK...your points are very well made (have you ever thought if taking up law? you would be good at it)...and you have a benefit in that the Sanctioning Bodies agree with you. I am the one going "against the grain", if you will...but I will make one more stab at making my point even though I am convinced that we will probably just have to agree to disagree ;)......

Basically in one sentence you said you are not trying to add subjectivity to it, but then you said "there may be a very valid reason that their records, although the same, perhaps shouldn't be"...which is, by definition, subjective.

Please forgive me. I did not mean for one second to insinuate that you actually would be in favor of this. However, on the contrary, I was not supporting your point, I was using an absurdity to make mine.

I agree 100% with everything you said here. You nailed it perfectly....but I think you missed my point. The entire paragraph spoke to explaining to the players why a team that you tied in the standings, but defeated one-on-one, advances while you are eliminated.

You definitely win this battle. I literally hate Logan. Do you still have to go through that darn tunnel to get there? I use to go up there about 6 times a year but haven't been in close to 10 years. I have missed more flights than I care to admit because of that darn tunnel. I am stuck in Vegas, if you can call it "stuck". While some people might say "Why would you be on this forum instead of enjoying Vegas?" but the reality is that me "enjoying" Vegas usually ends up costing me a second mortgage so this is purely a cost cutting measure LOL!! :)

Have safe travels, ITK...this has been fun. You made your case well.

Now boarding ;)
