But : look at tryout notices this morning their are 5 or 6 teams still soliciting for players in their 16 and unders + in my opinion their will be additional teams searching quietly

Why is this : after the huge mass of people running over there in a panic that weekend how could their not be enough to cover all the teams and then a few more : policies were mentioned on this thread about the ecb owner insisting all tryout atendees being taken etc

You must not have read the whole posting because I clearly stated earlier that there is NO policy at ECB regarding teams having to take players. That information was simply incorrect and I used the same example you noted (teams still lookIng for players even though more than enough were at tryouts) as my evidence.

Again, every team except the Astros and Titans (13U and up) are independent contractors at ECB. ECB has no say in who they have on the team. It's not rec ball, it's competitive travel ball and that wouldn't be possible if ECB made teams take lesser players just because they were at the clinic/tryouts. It's a fund raiser thinly masked as a clinic/tryout. If you play at ECB you're gonna pay that $100 no matter what. If you go to the tryouts and get picked you've paid or if you jump on a team early from a "private workout" youre still going to pay but that money DOES NOT guarantee your player an offer from one of the teams.

This was my son's first year going to the ECB tryout. He actually enjoyed it. I guess because it was new and he's not jaded/cynical about it. And he was on a baseball diamond. As far as I could tell, he wasn't panicked.

As for why there are teams still looking? IMHO, too many teams. There are several good options at ECB in that age group. There are a number outside of ECB as well. Plus, this is where kids probably start to drop out of travel, or stop pitching and focus on their position(s). Notice everyone is looking for pitching.

If you join an ECB team after the fact, I think you have to pay the $100 even if you didn't go to the tryout, so anyone who skipped the tryouts to save money, didn't.

I thought somebody with experience at ECB said that they don't make teams pick everybody at the tryout.

I did not miss your point, in fact it is a fair one. However, these coaches are looking for gamechangers, not just bodies. So, absent of that player, they just keep looking. No, they werent ALL rec type, but there were alot of small players, and few gamechangers.

"All tryout attendees being taken" has never com out of his mouth....I have seen plenty of kids with NO business being out there. Simply overmatched. This is not rec ball where everyone gets a spot.

DEEP: you missed my point

I am asking why if so many kids showed up at these tryouts how is it all these teams are still looking for players?

They couldnt all have been rec level players

Well maybe not rec players but just not the players the coaches wanted. The coaches are lookIng for specific things from players at that point and maybe none of them fit the bill. Every coach has an idea of what the team needs and they won't settle for a player that doesnt fit that mold in the Fall. Most will just wait it out.

When I was coaching we often passed on good players for our last two or 3 spots because they didn't pitch. And that was the only reason. Good families, good kids. Maybe even better at their position than the kids we had, maybe not. But we needed pitchers and they didn't pitch. Not saying that's what is going on, but notice how many of the teams are looking for pitchers.

Two reasons why thy are still looking for players.

1) They are looking for a higher level of talent then was shown at the tryout/clinic.
2) The parents of the players left have a reputation for disrupting teams. By this age they are found out.

There is also the if that kid/parent joins the team we are leaving. I have seen more of this in the least three years. The reason, see number two.

The odds on the pitcher showing up to put you over the top this late in process is probably not gonna happen. What you need is a pitching tree! When ever you need one just go out and pluck one off. Mine grows lefties

Things change everyday. Teams breakup, parents get mad, kids move into town, whatever. Most of the teams who ate looking have enough to play. Just like fishing you throw your line out and hope a prize winner bites. You won't get that if you don't put the line in the water.

Not necessarily. One year my last player committed while I was at the Chick Fil A Bowl and he ended up being our #2 pitcher.

Ive been around East Cobb now for 6 years. I have never heard of a kid being placed on a team if they are not picked in the draft. Where did that come from??????

Kids are picked up after the draft all the time in 16U, 17U, and 18U; this is especially so for those kids who aren't from the metro area and don't make the draft, but there are plenty of area high schoolers who start with one travel team, then decide they want to try ECB. The draft is long over by that time.

Taking a guess here, but I think it's a matter of semantics. Some (not all) players are picked up after the draft if they went undrafted and holes on a team remain to be filled. I agree with your comment that players aren't "Placed" on a team if the team doesn't want the player.

Is that your question?
