Here's the deal. My son along with a few others players (6) on this team actually played for their high school teams, while the others (8) either played rec or none at all including the head coaches son. Had we had known this when we decided to play here I would not have put my son through this. This coach attened one of our high school games to watch another player and my son was pitching a no hitter at the time. The team price was what sold me here due to finances not to good and being out of work for over a year. The coaches son has played every inning of every tournament. The boys who played high school ball are usually sat for him to play every in field position, which he has no place doing. My son wants to quit the team due to this coach. I told him not to give up the extra practices he is getting along with the high school summer ball. I am looking for your thoughts on if I am doing the right thing on keeping him there. By the way we are scheduled to start playing in show cases in a couple of weeks. Should be interesting to see how much his son pitches.
I agree Hitcoach, daddy ball at 16 is ridiculous..I was about to pay major money for a team until I saw one of the million coaches 5'5 son starting at SS. Needless to say that was the last time they will be seeing me.
Over here we are starting to see some of that over here in school ball at the upper ages, but in reverse - you won't even get a look on the middle school/high school programs unless you play on particular sets of travel teams. Some of these high school teams are terrible the way they are run - I am still a few years away from that, but it that is still the case, I'm letting my kid play Lacrosse in HS and can keep playing travel ball!
