Haha a "break" that's putting it pretty mildly. The championship game was a really good game, it was by far the toughest time mine has EVER had on the mound but I hope that he can learn from it and not let it happen again. The ECB Braves have consistently been a top team in the nation and we were just over matched. That being said it was a great way to end our season and hopefully people can see that Gwinnett teams can compete if we can get enough major level kids to leave their GGBL and other local teams.
And congrats to #5 from the Braves, that was one of the most dominant performances on the mound I have seen at the 10U level this year or last. |

Picking the Braves was the easy part, the most amazing aspect of this team's game is the consistency in which their players perform day after day. Almost every other team has bad games or bad weekends but these kids are so focused it's truly amazing.
I bet most were scratching their heads after SP went 0-3 in pool play and ended up as the 14th seed. They came out and almost won the whole thing, don't know if the score really indicated how close the game was and maybe someone can recap it for those that didn't get to see it.
It was interesting to follow the bracket because in the semi-finals you had 3 double digit seeds along with the Braves. |

Heard #5 won their championship game against the Stealth and really limited what did offensively. This kid has really stepped up after the Braves lost a couple of their other top arms from last season. |

Let me put it to you guys "mildly" ...... The Yard Dogs did the tournament director a favor and took the weekend off so he could finnally get a good showing in the 10U bracket. All of you who are talking, know good and well that if we would have been in the tournament your teams would not have showed up. The reason you will probably tell on this post is "The Dogs are unsportsmanlike," "The Yard Dogs cheer too loud," "They have no class." But the real reason is that you all know that you would have been playing for 3rd place or worse ....... The Ship would have been EC Braves vs The Dogs with a good chance of the Dogs raising the trophy. And the break that the TD wanted was more about not hearing all the crying from the teams who have the unfortunate luck of the draw and have to face the Yard Dogs in an elimination game.
Again ..... We are not ashamned of our style of play on the field and our passion off the field. Like it or not the Yard Dogs Players are relevant and will be weather they have a Yard Dogs, East Cobb, Gwinnett, Henry County or Alpharetta jersey on ........ Ask EC Rays Coach.........Invasion of the Yard Dogs.......lol
We look forward to the USSSA State and welcome all fans to come hang on the fence at the beautiful East Cobb Complex. |

We left in the 5th inning after one of the big boys from SP hit a 3-run homer to make the score 9-3, but the Braves looked like they were in cruise control jumping out to a 9-0 lead.
Was sorry we headed out when we checked the brackets later last night and spotted the 9-8 final score! Must have been an exciting finish.

Spartan4 - We enjoyed playing you guys this weekend. You have plenty of talent in Gwinnett and adding your team to the major division next year will make for better tournaments. Keep in mind, it's not about finding the best 11 players you can get. It's about making a cohesive team (kids and parents) and improving with the ones that you have. I know some teams have far more talent this year than they had last year but aren't as successful. Selecting the best 11 kids you can find will never work at this age for a variety of reasons.

coach, you're on to something, I know of a few teams that added some "top players" but added baggage that comes along with those top players(parents, poor attitudes, etc), but the good news is after time, those certain individuals, players, parents(and even coaches in some cases) are identified and can get "labeled" and will have a rough go at finding a team. |

It takes about five minutes to identify who the best players are. I spend the rest of the game watching the kids attitude and how the parents act because it can make for a long 6 months if everyone isn't on board with the program. One of my assistants is always talking about team chemistry and he is spot on. |

I agree with you, players bad attitudes and parents comments can make for a dreadful season and not to mention it brings the rest of the team down and tears up the "chemistry" outside the fence as well. I wish our coach would cut a player or 2 for poor attitudes and I think our season would be much much smoother on the field, in the dugout and in the stands. |
