I'd like to say great job to all who played this weekend at ATPP. There were some quality baseball teams that entered the tournament over the weekend. Who was the big hitters anybody know? I'll tell you guys something! There was a kid from that Rookies team that maybe had at least 5 or 6 homeruns over the weekend and the strange thing about it all is that "he may not even be the best slugger" on that team!!! wow |

It depends on what your definition of "Elite" is.
Does Elite means Top 20 in country? Does Elite mean Top 5 in state? Does Elite mean Top 20 in state?
I have a hard time deciding what Elite means to me, much less to anyone else but here's my take, probably based on USSSA . . .
Top 20 in country = Elite Top 20 in state = Major Next 40 teams in state = AAA Next 40 teams in state = AA All teams after that = A

To answer your question if the Rookies are Elite, I would suggest that it's way too early to tell. If you look at the teams at ATPP last week, none were Elite teams (if even major classification). See how they fare against some of the Major teams in the Back to School Brawl, if they get the opportunity to be paired against any of them. |

Not even close to elite. A Good team yep. Are they major yep, but so were a few other teams at ATPP, not great major but competitive. They don't have enough good pitching to win big tournaments with major teams and be considered elite. |

When the Rookies begin to enter elite tournaments and play more elite teams then we will begin to get a better picture if they are ready to be labeled elite. It's not as hard to hit the AA and AAA pitching out of the park but once you reach the elite pitchers in this age group you feel lucky to get a single much less a home run. Papa has never had the opportunity to watch them play but look forward to seeing them soon. I believe that it might be at the Back to School Brawl. |

PaPa, I've seen them hit against Elite pitching, and while they didn't exactly tee off (very few do), they were able to put the ball into play as good as any hitters I've seen vs. these 2 boys. Now they only scored 2 earned runs, but they did hit the ball, get on base, and create opportunities to score a couple more unearned runs.
Hitting is the Rookies strength. Pitching depth and defense are 1/2 step behind their hitting. Their top 2 pitchers are tough, and they make nearly all the routine plays.
By Stingers definition, I'm not ready to call them Elite yet, but they are not far off. Maybe 2 stud pitchers away. I really liked their Coaching and mental toughness.
They seem to have it all in perspective too which I really like to see at this high level. I've seen them win, and I've seen them lose, always gracious; players, Coaches, and parents. They were a lot of fun to compete against and watch play.

If Brad from HSE is reading this he can probably tell you. I think the HSE beat the Cartersville Rookies in the finals of a tourney earlier this season. |

Don't know how you guys rate the Rookies but we will take them anytime at ATPP events. They were a respectful bunch that seamed to enjoy playing baseball. Last time we checked, that was the reason we form teams and build great facilities to play in. As a matter of fact, the entire field was a pleasure to host and work hard for. Thanks teams for making the 11u March Madness a great event. |

I can attest first hand to the Rookies ability. They are one of the best hitting teams in state for sure. Even when they swing and miss, the mechanics are text book. They were just getting adjusted to open bases when we faced them but they are loaded with athletes and they will compete! I think they will a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses. Very classy group of coaches and parents. We look forward to playing them in the future.

Got a chance to see them play a game this weekend. No where near elite. I would classify them as a strong AAA or low major. Not really fair to classify them based on one game, but at the plate I saw alot of free swinging as opposed to good pitch selection and I would rate their defense as average. The game I saw was against a weaker team. Maybe didn't seem them at their best, but since you asked, I wouldn't place them in the elite class, assuming that elite is amongst the top ten in the metro area. |
