Suprise team North Georgia Lightning. Seems to be really playing well. Last weekend they went 6-0 at the Chick-fil-A Duel on the diamond and beat several quality teams:

Chattanooga Chief 2-0
North Georgia Cougars 12-5
East Cobb Titans 11-6

Also earlier in the year took Holly Springs Express into extra innings losing 10-9 at the end.

Mid Season report from the southside:

Academy Red- Coach Dan is a great recuriter.
HPCD Meyer- made it to the semi's in big triple crown event. kept it close with Bandits. This team added 2 players to a team that was beat 31-4 (or something like that) by the Ga. Grip last year. Coach Meyer and his crew are doing something right.

HPCD Lawson were not a surprize. We all new they would be good.
Gamers Red no surprize good talent.
HPCD Stills- Still not sure who is on the team. Good coach and will stay competitve.
Gamers Blue- Rough start and not able to recover.

I'm with the North Georgia Lightning and I do think we are alot better. We made some upgrades over last year. We just got two of our best players back. One was playing middle school ball in Tennessee and the other just recovered from a severed nerve in his leg. He may be one of the top talents in the state. We also had a huge pick up from another team. This kid is also a top talent who can play multiple positions at a high level.

Lately we have been playing very well and look forward to playing in some bigger tournaments later on this year.

We also defeated the OP Sharks a couple of weeks ago who has turned into a pretty good team, and we defeated Cherokee Baseball Acadamey 8-4.

We just hope the boys continue to play well together so we can try our hand at some of the bigger named teams out there.

Two suprises I have seen up until this point:

On the down side - the Holy Springs Express have gone 0-3 (at a tournament with half AAA teams) and 1-2(this past weekend) at the two recent tournaments I have seen them. I thought they were going to be a stonger team based on what I saw last year and the fact that I heard they picked up some players.

On the up side - Sharon Springs Black have knocked of Sandy Plains Wildcats and now 6-4-3 Cougars in bracket play and have a win over ECB Colts in pool play. This is very different than what I saw a couple of years ago. They had a big lefy pitching pitching in those wins that I don't remember. They have obviously added players.

Most of the other teams are about where I thought they would be.

In the Spring Break Extravaganza they beat Sandtown to get to the championship game and then beat 643 Cougs to win it all. This is 11U baseball and sometimes you just have "one of those weekends". If you check the USSSA website, you will see there are plenty of major teams who have lost to AA or AAA teams.

The biggest surprise to me so far is that the Jags didn't make the gold bracket this past weekend.

Not only did the Jags not make the Gold bracket they were 1 run in the RD from being in the Bronze.
