According to stinger we should just give the trophy to Team GA and save the gas.
Anybody can win this with a key hit or play. Holly Springs showed us that Team GA can be beat and every game will be a dog fight. I predict another weekend full of close games and unexpected victories. |

Knowing Stinger's out there waiting to pounce has me a little gun shy, so I'll just take a poke at AA...
We've played 2 of these teams recently, and 7 of the 10 teams over the past 12 months. 2 are new to travel, and I've seen 1 of those 2 play (all stars).
I'll take: John Creek Mavs, Clermont A's, Central Park Titans, Sharon Springs Silver. Sentimental favorite: North Gwinnett Bulldogs
Too close and too early on in the season to call beyond this. Stinger, any thoughts on this AA group?

I have a question please. This particular tournament are the fields softball fields with portable pitching mounds or real baseball fields? Just curious because we have never played in this tournament or in Cumming. |

G-Man 6 different Forsyth County parks are being utilized for this event, due to the # of teams. This is one of the top 2 Georgia events. The other is the USSSA S-NIT.
Anyway, since County parks are being used, and County's must build fields that can accommodate a wide range of age groups, most if not all, have temp mounds for 8U-12U. I can't say for 13-14U. The parks are all relatively new and well maintained. I cannot recall seeing any temp outfield fences, but maybe some fellow posters can chime in.
Most age groups and skill classes play all games at the same park. 14U uses more than 1 park, and the 11U Majors are at a different park than the 11u AA and 11u AAA's. I'd guess this couldn't be avoided.

moser - I'm not in the predicting business as I have earlier indicated (I believe I used the word 'futile'). I understand the fun in this, especially if you're just naming a final four. But when somebody starts complaining that match-ups are un-fair, or that some team has "no chance" before the first tournament is played, then that's going a bit too far in my view.
But if you really want a prediction . . . I predict that we'll have some nice weather for some good baseball and that we'll all have a better idea of what teams are bringing to the table this year in GA on Monday.

I am curious why no one has mentioned the Chain Dirt Dawgs in the AAA division. This team is 30-11 record wise this season. Plus it looks like they have been on the field more this season than any other team. Whereas most AAA teams in this tournament are just starting to hit the field it looks like. |

If you go back in time you'll find a few posts by the Dawgs Coach, that explains. Or, go to USSSA 11U Major GA Elite roster.

Thanks. These are not cookie-cutter County parks/fields like we have in Gwinnett County. Instead, in Forsyth County, The fence dimensions in relation to home plate vary. This means home run depth, foul ball territory, and passed ball area can be quite different park to park. If I recall, Sawnee Mountain Park has ~25 feet from home plate to the backstop, so runner/s advance easily on passed balls. The 11's don't play there, but the 12's do so the Bandits catchers will have to "block up".

Nothing Earth shattering to report from the 11U AAA Division. It was very cold, and it seemed to affect the hitters more than the pitchers. All fairly low scoring games. I'm ready for some Global Warming Al! |

You did great. You didn't complain once about how your pool or draw was tougher or whine once about where you might be seeded after pool play. And of the 5 (out of 10) teams you picked, one won the tournament and another finished 2nd. Nicely done.
Interesting that in AAA, the two teams playing for the championship both went 0-2 in pool play. Can't remember seeing that happen before.
Same for Jackets-Gold who went on a great run in bracket play beating Jags & Team GA back-to-back after going 0-2 in pool play. And who saw EC Luck over the EC Titans??

The more data we get, the better predictions we can make. True, we will never "know" (100% accurate), but as more data is accumulated, the easier it gets to reach the pinnacle of predicting (75% accuracy).
This early on, its not statistical analysis, its educated guessing. I only predicted 11U AA because I felt like I had enough data to avoid looking foolish. I got 5 of elite 8, 2 of final 4, and mentioned both teams that played the championship. ~60%...decent.
In 11u AAA, Collins Hill had the best pitching, Duluth had the best offense, Sharon Springs Black had best outfield, Chain Dirt Dawgs were best at creating runs out of thin air, Alpharetta A's had the highest BIP% (ball in play), and if any defense averaged of <1 E/game, please stand up, because I didn't see it and I was there most of the weekend. I'd say top defenses were Collins Hill, SS-Black, & Warriors.
Both teams in the C'ship, went 0-2 in pool. 2 of the pool winners lost their first bracket game. Lots of parity in 11U AAA, or was it some Coaches deploying their pitching line ups better than others?
Can someone give a similar assessment of 11U Majors?

Very interesting weekend. Team Ga is a good team but welcome to the circuit. We gave them the keys to the city based on fall results. I think in about six weeks we are going to see more of these teams up north get better. This is a tough circuit from Alpharetta to east cobb and to be crowned the king you have to run through this league for a season. The only 2 teams that have done that on a consistent level are the bandits and sandtown.
It appears that the other major teams are pretty even.
I think the blue grey this weekend will shed even more light.

Team GA is very good and this weekend changes nothing. They got upset it happens. Someone was better than they where in a two hour span. hey are still the number two major team in GA. They won the triple crown tournament last weekend beating the Bay Bombers. Sandtown will be down probably still top 10 but down.

I have to agree with Titan on this one. Jackets Gold are a very good team but have proven to be a lot more inconsistent than Team GA at this point. Still a great win for the Jackets. |

Learned a new trick play after Slugfest ended. Yep, AFTER it ended. Worked so well, NOBODY caught it at the time.
visualize this with me...
Runners at 2nd and 3rd, hitter push bunts towards 1st, EVERYONE's watching the action near 1st base as the pitcher fields the bunt, the bunter dashes towards 1st base, and the 1st baseman's rushing to cover the bag.
NOBODY's watching clear across the field at the runner who was on 2nd base. Of course the runner at 3rd scores easily, but the trick is what the lag runner is doing who started on 2nd base.
He bypasses 3rd base entirely, and runs a hook route to home plate! By the time eyes move away from the action at 1st base, he's back in the basepath, slides, and scores too!
Whatta yah think of that? |

New to this site- but I will say I saw two incredible games for the 11U Majors . Jackets Gold vs TG - the ITB sure felt like a championship game!
643 Cougars vs Jackets Gold- of course the early grand slam by 643 set the bar high and shook the jackets up, but in the end- and despite the score - it just didn't "feel" like the scoreboard read.
I don't know what time horizon consistency is measured on but if teams from this weekend are consistent, Super NIT will be a solid weekend of baseball for all! ENJOY! |

As hard as it was to swallow, I think we (Team Ga) needed to take a loss like this. Taking nothing away from the Georgia Jackets team, but I really don't think our boys felt they could lose. They came out and played hard last weekend winning the Triple Crown tourney but did not seem to have that same intensity in any game this weekend. Confidence is good, but you still have to play to back it up. We did not. The Jackets seemed to want it more than our kids and in the end, that may have made the difference. It was very evident that we have had only one on the field practice and that we have a LOT of work to do to get to where we want to be. Probably a good thing we are not playing this weekend and can hopefully use this time for some much needed practice. Baseball can be a humbling game and I think our boys experienced that this weekend. I just hope that this was a learning experience for them or it will not be the last time they go home disappointed on Sunday. Congratulations to the Georgia Jackets Gold (for your win) and 643 Cougars (for winning the tourney).
