If you are a Major team, if you win the ATL S-NIT.
Other than that, after April 1st and your team "qualifies" for the World Series in your age/class. Nearly every tourney after April 1st is a "qualifier", and you don't have to win, or even do well. I've seen teams go 1-2 in a tourney and qualify. I think USSSA states how many births each tourney will award beforehand, but I'm not sure where to find that info.
Before April 1st, its almost anything goes, after April 1st, it gets too risky to chance hopping around from team to team.
Also, if a player is on multiple rosters pre-April 1st, make sure the temp teams drop him off their rosters by April 1st...I'd be thinking about doing that now rather than wait much longer. I'm not sure if the drops are instantaneous, or if there's some lag time.
The Georgia USSSA web site has a rules tab. I'm right 75% of the time, so you might want to read up. |

moser: I want a clear answer to this one too. And I want to give specific examples so that I am super clear as I don't want to get caught in some sort of trap. Say for example my 11U grandson that plays for a major 11U team wants to compete in a Super NIT with another team since his team is not playing. What if the team my grandson is playing with qualifies? Is he frozen and can't go back to his original team.
I have asked Bubba and Bubba has checked with the State office and I am told that my grandson can be released back to his team and that there is nothing wrong with this. moser, Do you agree with the above scenario as I want to be very clear what our intentions are. |

3.07.A.3 At A Super NIT event (whether the team accepts the berth or not), the teams official online roster shall become frozen immediately at the Super NIT event regardless of the date the Super NIT event is played or the date the roster is physicaly frozen in the USSSA online system. 3.07.B No player shall appear on any other team's frozen or unfrozen official online roster within the same age division. |

PaPa, I agree with BASEBALL's posting of rule 3.07.A.3
If Bubba says its okay, make sure he's authorized to say it's okay, then have him put it in writing for you. I'd imagine a State Director would know better than I, but I'd like to read the section that overrides 3.07.A.3

Yes he can go back to his original team but at that point the team that becomes frozen can only pick up 3 more players. Once your grandson leaves that team he is guest playing for he can not return to it for the rest of the season. But in short yes if his team that he is guest playing for wins and the roster becomes frozen he can return to his original team without penalty. |

when a team qualifies it can drop as many playes as it wants but can only add 3 players from that point on. |

It is also my understanding that a player can only make two moves. On the second move he is locked to that team for the remainder of the season. I have not confirmed this though. |

G-Man: Can you please cite rule or page number? I cannot find it. Why would rule 3.07.A.3 say the roster is frozen upon winning a S-NIT, then in some other section reverse this? Totally illogical, and I have not yet been able to find it, but will re-read the rules again. |

PaPa: 3.06.G Says State Directors can do pretty much anything they want pertaining to rosters, so if Bubba says okay, its okay, unless National overrides him! So, I'd get it in writing from Bubba and a National USSSA official.
3.08.B.1 Says adds from a frozen roster to a frozen roster is prohibited, but it doesn't explicitly state that players cannot be released then go from a frozen roster to an unfrozen roster...as would be the case in PaPa's situation.
USSSA needs to add this language since it is too important a point to be left unsaid. It never says its okay, or that its not okay. It doesn't address that particular case directly.
To me, it should be wrong to load up to win a S-NIT, call that roster frozen, then be able to release players from that "frozen" roster the next day. Frozen should mean frozen, or find another more accurate word, or phrase, to describe that collection of players such as: "tentative" roster, or "temporary" roster. "Frozen" invites dispute.
After a collection of players wins a S-NIT, we can review their on-line roster to determine if they are a temporary collection of players, or a seasonal team.
Why not add a new class of tourney called "age-only" tourneys where no roster rules apply, only that the players are of a certain age? |

After April 1st I think they take the top 20 or 25% (that is not already frozen) of the teams at the event and their rosters are frozen. If a team has already won an event then it pushes down to the next team, so at any given time (after April 1st) a team can be frozen if the teams above them have already qualified or they are in the top 20 - 25% of their classification at that event. |

I hear some of our best Georgia players whose teams are not playing this weekend are contemplating teaming up with the Florida boys for SNIT. When dealing with something as delicate as the magnitude of the SNIT, frozen roster, automatic births, enormous gate fees etc. One should opt to be blameless when it comes to the rule book. Getting the Commissioner of USSSA Georgia region to sign a waiver of some sort for Georgia studs to play with an already star studded Florida team is sort of wishy-washy to me. With the letter from the Commissioner the rules may not be broken per say but, it's just not right so to speak!!!!! The Florida boys are seemingly already loaded with talent. Teams having to face them are a little nervous already. Once they add one of the best from Georgia, we Georgia boys won’t be happy. I don’t think teams will take kindly to the commissioner writing letters to allow the rules to be subject to different interpretations besides what’s in black and white (3.07.A3.). Winning is fine and dandy when done the right way!!!!!

Papa, I hate that the Bandits can't play this weekend as it is really not a SUPER NIT with out them. With that said and if you look at the amount of injuries the Bandits have already had i would say let the grandson take the week off and stay healthy for when his team is ready to get back after it. Knowing how long some injuries can take to heal you know the big boy will be needed now more than ever for Bandits to continue their dominent run. Why risk getting hurt playing for another team just to play one tournament when there are so many still to play. I say watch, pick a team to root for but be ready to play another day. PS. This has nothing to do about whether you like or dislike the ability to play for another team or not. Just my opinion on what the big boy means to the Bandits! |

Blosee: I wasn't meaning for PaPa to ask Bubba (or the National USSSA office) to make any special allowances, but rather just to put a clarification of the rules into writing as a safeguard.
If I had a North GA son with high Major class level skills who didn't want the S-NIT to pass him by, for whatever reason, I'd try my best to get him onto a Georgia contender like Sandtown, or Team GA. If that didn't work out, I'd look to other contenders. That's just my take. I wouldn't want to see any boy miss out though.
I hope it all works out for the N. GA group, and all that are able to play, and want to play, find a team. |

Thanks Shutout: I have written a long rambling reason that Big Brother has chosen not to post explaining what happened.
I will cut to the chase and try and explain it short and sweet. My grandson will not play although from what I have been told by USSSA State officials he is certainly legal to play and could return to the Bandits after the Super NIT has concluded.
We will miss not playing and would really like to thank the Bay Bombers for asking. It is just 11U baseball and he is as healthy as he has been in 3 years and he wanted to play. We were not asked to play for a Georgia team so that should answer the Georgia/Florida question.
My grandson has played against the Bay Bombers since his 9 year old year and they are not only one of our fiercest opponents but some of our best friends. It would have been an honor to play for this organization as their Coaches, Parents, and Kids are some of the best in the game. I would also to thank 10BB and apologize for making a committment and then back out on them. I hope that he can find it in himself to understand.
I hope that if anything comes out of this that it will be a more concise definition of the word "frozen" as used in the USSSA rule book.

Papa, it's a shame that some felt the need to give you guys a hard time about this situation. I wish they would all try to understand that these boys LOVE to play baseball and to the kids that's the whole story. All of this other stuff shouldn't come into play in my opinion. We look forward to seeing you guys this weekend and I hope your other grandson's team does well. |
