Don't really see the Astros playing many (if any) 14U tournaments before Disney. Ok, time to go to the second most expensive dinner of the year! :-) |

Waiting until the season starts probably defeats the "pre-season" part. |

But Titansx11, wouldn't that defeat the idea of "Pre-season" if everyone waited until we started. It would no longer be the "Pre-season", but would be the "In-Season" rankings.

WOW! pre season ranks for 14U teams ?!
How bout prediction of oil prices in 2012 ?
Like couple years ago my football Bulldogs were #1 ranked start of season then finished out of top 25 ! |

only consensus is EC Astros #1. Other than that its a coin flip. Vipers will be strong again as will the Team Gwinnett "A" team, Stallions, Team Rawlings, Longhorns, Phillies, Diablos, Titans.

Some of those teams got beat in a pre season nit pretty bad by AAA teams and others have some average hired guns. Good luck with those predictions |

It's all fun fodder for this time of year.
The funny thing is, once the season starts, no one will care about a ranking and very few can even definitively tell you at that time what the ranking is. It would be easier if it was a league, where all teams play the same number of teams and only play the same teams.
Once the season starts, you will have 2 groups;
1) the ones who are playing like they thought they would, and trying to go compete on the weekends
2) the ones who are reeling from the reality that they have a lot more holes in their boat than they thought. At that point it becomes a mad scramble to figure out how to plug as many holes as you can and get back on track. Some will figure out where to do more work, and others will just have disgruntled parents and coaches all season.
Same dance, different music. |

I understand what I said, and like I said, no such thing! As I should have stated no such thing as "Pre-Season rankings". There is only one team to rank; the Astros, the rest is a crap shoot. |

I don't know titan, if we had the top-10, I was going to take my February lottery $$$ to Vegas and put down a small wager. I mean, its February, no more football and college basketball doesn't get serious until March. A crap shoot? Maybe, but so is the weather and teams keep signing up for tournaments this month. At the end of April, we'll come back and see who the surprises were based on Greg's groupings. |

I'll putin my 2 cents worth aswell... The Astro's are prob the best 15u team in the state let alone 14u, so we will leave them out of this.
TG White EC Stallions EC Combat PC Vipers TG Blue
Also solid squads.... EC Team Rawlings EC Titans EC Phillies EC Warriors Forsyth Outlaws Titans Baseball
How do any of these teams with School kids play any of the early Elite tournaments? I mean all of the Astro's are prob. on Highschool teams somewhere. That goes for all of the top 5 I would think. This is the 1st year my son won't have played in the Slugfest since he started travel baseball. |

Most of the lists are slanted toward teams the poster knows more about. It is natural and I am sure I would do the same thing if I created a list.
If you are out of Gwinnett you are more inclined to include both TG teams. If you play out of EC, you will include one or two teams that are 5th or 6th on the list at EC. Some hate EC enough to try to avoid including any EC team on their list that is not absolutely necessary.
I don't care to make a list as much as make note of some questions I have:
In no particular order:
*The Vipers lost a couple of their key players from last year but picked up some strong players from Bulldog Baseball. How will they gel?
*The Stallions made some upgrades this off-season, how will they compete? They have mostly 8th graders so they will play early.
*The TG group have created 2 teams. Have they put their best on one team to compete at the top level, or are the players spread between the two, making it difficult for them to compete with the best.
*The EC Longhorns made some improvements in the off-season and will play early. Did they make enough changes to get into that next tier.
* Georgia Seminoles (Powder Spring Seminoles) have upgraded. How will they compete?
*EC Team Rawlings (Formerly EC Combat) have a lot of players with ability but have to prove they can get it done on the field. Possibly their greatest acquisition is their new head coach. Coach Guy will get more out of them than any coach they have had before. Does he have all the pieces he needs?
* Can the EC Titans live up to all the hype and questioning that has gone on this fall/winter. The unfortunate thing is, most of this has not come from inside the team, but from speculation on the outside.
* Can EC Phillies, Warriors, Braves, and Shamrocks get themselves off of the bottom rung at EC and compete at a more consistent level?
To me, these are more interesting questions to be answered than what everyone thinks the pre-season rankings should be. |

the Vipers may not have added a pitcher the caliber of what went to the Astros but they certainly added some solid players.
Cam...EC Rawlings is EC Combat. |

Truth be told. you all know me. Astros 1. EVERYONE ELSE 2. Until games are played. EC Stallions, Longhorns, Rawlings, PS Seminoles, TG, are all very similar in talent. It all depends on how they gel, mesh come together etc. Maybe its not preseason rankings, more like preseason predictions. Good luck to all of you. My boy and I will be watching. |
