bmoser; thats a good point!!!
Everyone Im saying it I apologize if I have offended any of you it was not my intention. I only wished to get in a good debate with Dennis Lemming on the tournament that has not yet been made public. This is the very reason it was not made public. The TD did not want an upset bunch of coaches or parents because little Johnnies team wasn't invited.
This is only a 12 team tournament. Do you all understand that the low number of teams will be better taken care of by the director. Isn't that what every team would want. It's like the teams invited should feel bad because we have done what it takes over the years to be considered for an invitation only tournament that just so happens to be being hosted in your great State.
Truth be told this topic was started on another site and immediatly someone was personally attacked on their character. I merely wanted that not to happen to that person on this site. Thats why the topic reads " Keep the cat in the bag" and my post at the top says "PaPa" |

10 BB - Farm fields surrounding many Ga Baseball fields yield a plentiful supply of organic all natural healing paste that works miracles on many ailments... including chest bruises. I would be glad to send you some as your quiet, enriching and eloquent commentary would be sorely missed at the park this coming spring and summer. Also know that a severely bruised chest can impact your lung's ability to deliver critical coach speak such as "if you ain't first you're last". Hope you are enjoying the FL sun... it's freezing here :0( LOL and Happy Holidays. |

Even if my kid didn't play for one of the invited teams, I would want to watch a tournament like this. It's similar to the Elite WS right in our backyard. By the way, it is supposed to be an "invitational" tournament. Hence, teams will be invited by the TD. My guess is the teams will be invited based on past performance, current reputation and perhaps future potential. Just my guess. |

Guys
Papa is glad that he missed out on most of this debate. Chain Saw is in Erlanger Children's Hospital with a ruptured appendix and has not been doing very well and Papa has spent every night with him thus far. He is doing very well at this time but the appendix caused so much infection that it could not be removed at this time. We are hoping to go home today and I will read through these posts and see if I can shed some light. I did read enough to see that you guys were pounding 10bb. He is a great guy, a single dad raising 2 fine sons so Papa would ask that you cut him a little slack until I can respond and let you jump on my back. Keep Chaney in your prayers and he is doing really well right now. |

I do it all the time. Next best thing to watching your own son play. Great entertainment, and cheap too. Heck, I even go to all-star and Rec games. It is America's pastime after all.

NYO beat them also. I think they get the elite reputation more because of their coach. This could be a big year for this team but which direction up or down will be decided in the spring. The chemistry thing looks like it bit them in the fall but i'm sure he will coach them past that. |

Guys I know what this tourney is trying to be, but if you want a tourney like that with all the elite teams , then I think, just my opinion, that all the teams that qualified to play in the Memphis tourney {the youth baseball tourney} be invited along with the Bandits since they won cooperstown, and then go down list inviting runnersups in these big tourneys like 643 since they were runners ups to Bandits ,then say runners ups in the elite 32 and so on until you get filled. I mean its your tourney ,do what you want, but dont say this is a National event with Elite teams unless there is some insight on how teams are invited. |

Chaney will get to go home today and we have been blessed as this could have been a lot worse. Seems that the appendix had burst 3 weeks ago with no complaint from the Big Boy. The Doctor explained that his appendix was positioned in such a way that the infection had been walled off from the rest of the body and the infection was isolated to this area. They have greatly reduced the infection and will attempt to remove the appendix in approximately 10 days. Thanks for all of your concern.
I know 10bb well and do not believe for one minute that he set out to cause this kind of reaction from his original post. I love my Bandits as to me they are family and if it is me you are talking about pounding his chest then I am guilty as charged. The Bandits do not need me to promote them as they self promote with their play.
I stated it and I mean this from the bottom of my heart that it is impossible to judge who the best is because it changes from week to week and sometimes from day to day. Baseball has a built in equalizer sort of like the Soprano's guy who said " I thought I was out but they pulled me back in." With Baseball its "I thought I was elite but I just got beat."
Papa is telling you young uns right now to quit being so negative when it comes to these kid. They are your most prized possessions and should only be encouraged and assisted to be the best that they can be. Papa promises to not be so boastful but I will never promise not to love these kids and support them to my final breath.
I think the guy should be complimented for doing what all of us has asked for all the time that I have been on this forum and that is to attempt to have a tournament where the very best teams are competing with each other. I couldn't make the decision on who these 12 are and do not envy the guy that will do this. I do love the idea that the Bandits might have the opportunity to play these teams.
I also would like to end by saying again that the toughest games the Bandits play is against the teams from Georgia. It was HS Express that gave us the scare of our lives, it was 643 that played our butts off each and every time we got on the field with them. In my mind there is but little difference between the best Georgia teams and the elite national teams other than the "way the ball bounces" |

I will "chime" in for a comment. I agree the season started back in August. However I believe we can all agree for some of us and I am only talking about my team which is the Mill Creek Hawk-Red team, the players we have in the fall are not the same players in the spring. I had 5 players out playing football. If we are not qualified to play in a tournament such as this due to my fall season, so be it. I am sure we can play some of the best talent in a tournament that is not considered the best of the best. My boys still like to play ball wherever it is. As long as we are having fun, good chemistry on the team and the parents who enjoy what we are trying to do for their boys, I do not have to be "the best team in the nation" decided on one weekend. I have always taught my boys on any given weekend, anyone can win.
If they have this "Best of the Best" I believe the teams should be decided on what is seen for the first part of the spring season. If that includes the previously decided teams, great...but there may be a sleeper in there that would like to have a shot at the title. I have seen a lot of teams in a rebuild stage. Names have changed, they have stocked up, and the competition will be tough this year for sure. Just my 2 cents worth. |

Papa - I hear what you're saying; however, I think the negative undertones are aimed more at certain bloggers not the players. Hope Chainsaw feels better in time for Christmas! |

6. Team Georgia (GA)
7. Sandtown Red Sox (GA)
8. West Tennessee Wildcats (TN)
and they will only take 4 more teams but it is an invite only.
Hawks8 who is your team?
Lets objectively look at these teams so far:
Bombers - qualified for and played in the Elite 32 last year - roster has been upgraded with additions from the now defunct Stixx
Carolina Angels - went 29 and 4 last year in USSSA play. One of those losses to an 11u team. Ranked #2 in the state of NC in power rating. Roster looks to be the same as last year.
Georgia Bandits - roster is unchanged from Cooperstown except for one player that is no longer with the team. Won Cooperstown, finished ranked #1 10u team in the USA by TBS, finished ranked #1 in power rating in the USA.
Knoxville Stars - went 36 and 7 last year in USSSA play. Ranked #1 team in E. Tenn in power rating. No info on the 11u team roster available yet.
MBA Pride - comprised of the better players from last year's RBI Hawks and Mizuno Glory teams. Has been obliterating most of their opponents this Fall. Currently 27 and 2 through the Fall. One of their losses to the Bombers.
Team GA - if we're grading these teams on past performance, this is the one to gripe about since they didn't exist last year. Anyone who has seen them play knows they are legit and a threat to beat anyone.
Sandtown Red Sox - went 26 and 4 last season in USSSA play, 16 and 1 against 10u major teams. Participated in the "Champions of Champions" tournament in Memphis (I forgot the name of the tournament - sorry). finished #2 ranked team in GA in power ratings behind the Bandits, #3 in the nation in power rating.
West Tenn Wildcats - finished #2 ranked team in W. Tenn in power rating. Qualified and played in the Memphis tournament of champions.
6-4-3 has been invited - played for the Championship at Cooperstown, beating the eventual elite 32 champion on the way. Finished in the top 20 of TBS national rankings. Danny will have this team competing with anyone by Memorial Day.
OK Rays have been invited - #1 ranked team in OK, had the Elite 32 champions beat like a drum until an oversite regarding pitching rules was discovered and they were disqualified. Finished #10 ranked team in the country in power rating.
Guys, it's easy to see what the TD is trying to put together here. It should be a lot of fun to participate in and watch. If you have issues with who is being invited, compare your team to the accomplishments of the teams invited so far. If they are comparable and you want to participate, I know of several people who would help lobby for an invite for your team.
I don't get all the negativity coming from a lot of you. The only person in this thread who was bragging about their son was 10bb and he was doing so sarcastically after being banged on by someone else. Otherwise, his comments about others have been complimentary.
10bb realizes at this point that his method of communicating with Papa was a poor choice. 10bb is a very positive person who is raising two fine boys by himself. Every ounce of energy he has is devoted to them. Does he bragg about his sons' accomplishments sometimes? Maybe. I know him personally and have a lot of respect for the sacrifices he has made for his kids. He has inspired me to be a better person and father.
10bb, thanks for that.

Steve, you were a sleeper team last year to most of these folks. Are you guys planning to play AAA, Major or both this year. You guys were very strong last year and I know you lost a few players and replaced them of course. Do you consider your team to be better than last year? I realize that's probably a hard question to answer but I'll throw it out there anyway. I hope to see you guys a lot more this year among the major tournaments. I think you definitely have a team that will compete well there. |

I think we all get carried away with how proud we are sometimes with our kids and let it get out of hand and maybe even hurt someone else's pride and yes even brag and boast much too much about our boys.
Papa has always tried and can't remember ever mentioning any kids name other than when I was asking for prayers and letting every one know how the Chainsaw was doing with his arm injury and now his appendix. I fully realize that I have overbragged on my Bandits but at least you know how much I love them and how proud that I am of what they have accomplished. They are the most simple and down to earth group of kids you could ever meet that just love the game of baseball and love to have fun.
There are a lot of great kids that work hard out there and I think we should all concentrate on bragging on them as a whole and not just one or a handful and none of the Grinches will ever convince Papa that you shouldn't praise them and encourage them. I just wish that everyone could find a way to have as much fun as I and the Bandits are having with this game. It is a joy and I look forward to every weekend knowing that I will be spending time with them.
I want to say one other thing and that is I feel that everyone that posts should make it known who you are and what and who you represent. It is easy to cast stones from behind a rock with no one knowing who you are. I think that you would also enjoy it so much more as many of my friends have been made when they look me up at the ballfied. They generally come over the Bandits dugout yelling "which one is baseball papa" and depending on how mad they look I either say its me or if they looked really ticked off I point to Coach Troy and say "its him"
Thanks for the comments. |

This would be a good way to go about it in my opinion. Right now, none of us knows who is on the invite list and why. Hopefully, the TD will pull this thing off and perhaps publish the invitation criteria for 2011 so we all know what to expect the following year. |

I think but am not speaking for anyone other than myself that the intention of this tournament is similiar to the one that Coach Evans of the now 13U Astros put on several years for this age group and was held at East Cobb. He called it the Tournament of Champions and most years teams from Texas, California, Georgia, Carolinas, Alabama, Tennessee and even Ohio made the trip just for the competition. I think this is a great concept and still would hate to me the one issuing the invitations out because they are so many deserving teams out there. |

If I have come across as negative to anyone, I appologize. In a lot of ways, I wish there was more of this banter several years ago when my son was pre-HS. I really am not trying to put anyone down. I am not trying to say you should not be proud of your child or your team. I am not trying to say you should not try to win (I hate to lose). But I am saying your kids are still young. This should be fun for them at this age. It should not be about how elite their team is. They should be out there having fun and learning the game.
My son had played one season of fall travel at 11. No travel before that. Played 2 years at 12 (age change), 13 and 14 prior to HS. One of the main things I tried to do for him was keep it fun. He is very competitive, but understands that it is not the end of the world if he loses. We still play and throw together. We still talk baseball and watch baseball related shows on TV together. He still says he wants to play in the MLB. Just a sign of his love of the game. It was not important what he did when he was 11 years old.
I think it is great to get on these boards and talk BBall and try to become an "elite" team and be proud of your kid. Just try to keep it from them. They don't need to be thinking of themselves as "elite". They don't need to get stressed out if they lose a game or tournament. They need to have fun and play ball. That's all I'm trying to get across. Hope it didn't come out any other way. |

Folks,
I just want to point out that this is has not been promoted by the TD. All information has come 2nd hand (even if from reliable sources). If I had the contacts and resources to put this kind of tournament on...I would...you would, too. We all have our opinions (Monday morning QBs) and would all do things different. I think this is great for GA baseball. This will be a great experience for all players involved.
Regarding Team GA.....The GA Select program played and beaten some of the teams this forum says are top teams..we have also lost to Bandits (18-3, 10-2) and Team GA (4-0, 6-5)....Team GA deserves an invite as one of the top teams in GA. They are better than any other teams (after sandtown and bandits) I have seen in GA so far. Team GA has talented enough players to be invited. If they do well or get run-ruled, oh well....I think there will be more of these type tournaments. If you deserve it, you will eventually get a call.
I haven't gotten "the call", but my bottom line....I support the TD, this type of event, and don't second guess any team in it. My 2 cents are in and now I have to go...so I can check the mail to see if my invite has arrived...lol |
