EC titans - average at best. Lost both pool games and had to play first round last night. They will face the 1 seed Georgia Outlaws who won 10-0 and 19-3 in pool play.
Weren't their opponents rising 15 YO teams and they are a rising 14 YO team? |

Allstar, You are right. They have not posted it. They have 22 players they are trying to cut down to 16. They played this weekend in the Triple Crown Tournament in hopes of figuring some of that out. Hopefully the 7 players that will be cut will find out soon so they can find a permenant option. |

Triplecrown 14u tourney wrap up notes
Georgia Outlaws (15u) 1st, beat Titans 2-1 in the Semis and beat Team Gwinnett 7-3 for the championship. Destroyed everyone else. They were obviously older playing down. Team Gwinnett 2nd, beat Georgia Braves (15u) 8-3 then Warhawks 10-0 in semis.
14u Ranks - Team Gwinnett (4-1) then Warhawks (3-1) then Titans (2-3).

Allstar-
Titans lost to the West Cobb Cardinals, the Warhawks, and the eventual champion Georgia Outlaws which were a very good rising 15u. The 14u warhawks beat the Cardinals team that beat the Titans and also beat the Titans themselves in pool play. The Warhawks were eventually beaten by Team Gwinnett 10-0 in the Semis.. You can draw you own conclusions from this as well as my previous post (not up yet).
Also, to correct a previous post, which is not up yet at the time I am typing this, the Titans did go 1-3, not 2-3.

Mostly, if not all, against opponents a year older. |

my mistake i was judging based on the following rankings posted and if your the 4th best team in the major division that is pretty strong
Posted - 08/31/2009 : 10:16:14 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EC Astros- Will be stronger than last year. They are in a league of their own. Look for them to defend their Elite world series title.
Team Gwinnett- Added a lot of top players. Look for them compete at the national level.
EC Stallions- Roster looks very strong with LOTS of pitching.
EC Titans- A lot of the stronger players from AAA and low major teams. Good coaching. It will be interesting to see how they shape up against the top 5 in the state.
EC Combat- The team looks like they have a little less talent than last year. Good coaching.
PC Vipers- Lost best two players to Astros. Hard to tell what will happen with them.
EC Braves- Stronger than last year. It'll be interesting to see how they do against major teams.
EC Longhorns- Look very good on paper. A combination of last years Astros, Longhorns, and Hobgood Heat. One player from SW Express.

A WIN is a WIN and a LOSS is a LOSS : if didnt think could play that level of competition then why would you show up ?
I hope the coaches of ALL teams understand and preach that philosophy and dont make alibies otherwise |

This is not an indication to how the teams will do in the spring. Its hard for a group of kids that have never played a game together to go out and beat good travel teams. Stop making judgements. |

I saw all of the titans games and it seemed like the first two games they were trying out players and batting 12 or 13 players but outside of pool play they played like a top major level team. |

Not really. If you are still trying to sort your team out and just getting to know each other and playing 12-13 players in a game, a loss in September is not that big of a deal.
They're gearing up for June games against the Astros, Stallions and Banditos Black.

Remember a few things before rushing to judgement - the Titans were playing mostly teams that have been together all season as 14u last year and are now rising 15u teams - the Titans have only be practicing together for a few weeks at best and it looked like they were still just getting to know each other.
Be patient as this team will do just fine. Sutko knows what he is doing, has coached great teams before, has many talented players and will ultimately help this Titans team prove to be a good top tier ECB team. I feel sorry for the Titans 14u being the first guinea pig of the new season and having to deal with all this hyper inspection. |

Unless teams are trying to qualify for the Elite WS in the fall by playing in a Super NIT, the fall is just development time and an opportunity for the players to develop some continuity.
Now ECBGUY24, I don't think they looked like a top major team, I think they will be fine. |

mr allstar I realize you have a connection with the titans and so you want to support them in the forum thats cool.
but do not downplay a loss : mr Dan is very right a loss is just that a loss - so to make excuses and alibies is not respectfol of the other 3 teams that beat them.
astro stallion and banditos ?

Actually, I don't.
alibies is not respectfol of the other 3 teams that beat them.
They're not alibies. Just recognition that the teams might have had different desired outcomes from the weekend.
astro stallion and banditos ?
Pulled three elite teams names' out of thin air. Is even that controversial?

Anyone know which teams this past weekend were rising 14U vs rising 15U? With this tournament, it is so hard to tell.
We know Team Gwinnett, EC Titans, and Hobgood Storm were rising 14U. I was not sure about GA Outlaws, GA Warhawks and some of the others.
on another note, Allstar, they won't be playing the Astros in June unless they are playing in the 15U or 16U tournaments. (More than half the Astros played in the 18U division this past weekend at EC). |

I agree With mammabee. To say that the Titans used this Tourney to see what they had is disrespectful to the other teams that paid their money and just did better. Team Gwinnett batted all of their 12-13 players from pool play through the championship game. Only 7-8 kids on the TG roster will be on the spring TG Mizuno team, the others will be on the other team that I mentioned earlier in the thread.
You could really argue that Team Gwinnett was doing the same thing as the Titans and went 4-1.

I'm pretty sure that was it, the rest were rising 15U's.

Like I said, I pulled the names out of thin air. Maybe they'll play the 13U Astros.

I heard about the 14 U Astros playing in that 18 U deal, what a great experience for those players. I would have loved to have watched that. I wonder if the opponent knew they were facing 13/14 yr olds.. and I heard they all held their own. Kudos, thats a special group there! |

what a bunch of crap. This incessant need to rank team starting from day 1 to feed someones self esteem issue. Find me a team that wins in June and July (and August), that is a winning team. Find me a team whos's players are looked at in awe because of their skill set in June, that is a winning team.
I have my own way of counting winners, it is NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHYS. I would have traded every one of our 1st place trophy's earned in in Georgia that year to just get the tieing run home from 1st base. I think we won one 1st place trophy in 2008, but to me that is the one that mattered....
So, let's stop the over analysis of CHILDREN who may or may not continue this GAME in the future, let us enjoy their pleasure in the sheer joy of the game. Let us enjoy watching them grow in young and the responible adults, and let us read about them renewing the cycle with their own children.

12uCoach is dead on correct. I would take it a step further and say how much does any of this really matter in the big picture. There might be 5-10 kids from this age group that play division 1 ball, and maybe 2-3 that get drafted. Are we all fans of the game because we think our kid is the next Derek Jeter - I don't think so, or if so, we are badly out of touch. Let's just watch the boys have fun, bust their tails to get better, make lifelong friedships, and maybe, win a few games too. That is what drives most of us to want to enjoy watching and being a part of our son's efforts in this great game. |

YES !!
12coach FINALLY someone gets it and says it ~ it IS way too much about parents and coaches self esteem and way more than we ever saw in past generations.
i really have pursued bringing this message out but you called it dead on.
and does anyone think the kids dont read this stuff and wonder about it?
itS funny that the themself would never write this stuff Im sure maybe theres a few but very few. |
