Ah the continued realization that there is nothing much to talk about in the fall so the discussion spins off into the weeds.
I miss the days when the discussions would be about things like: *Off-season workouts/exercises *How much time off a player needs *What tournaments teams are looking at in the spring *Any rule changes that may have come up *Interesting scenarios that happened during games this past year. *etc. |

Bring 'em back AlterEgo ....I have interest in those also. Start a new post regarding topic #1 or #2 - better yet, both. I think a new topic is needed and it being the off season, I have interest in others comments regarding your mentioned #1 and #2. |

It is definetely not all about winning. Especially in the fall. Fall rosters are not complete due to football for one thing. It is crazy to get into a debate about who is better than who this early. Not taking anything away from the winners, it is just not right to base rankings on that.
IMO, fall should be a time for developing players and working on areas of weakness. Especially as 14 year olds. This should be a time for preparing the kids for HS tryouts. I think that is lost in the interest of winning. A coaches goal should be first that every kid on his team makes the HS team. And that as many kids as possible make the the JV or varsity team. If that is not your goal, especially in the 14 yr. old fall season, then something is wrong. The only reason pre-HS kids have been playing all these years is to make the HS team. If you don't do that, everything you've done is in vain. Other than that the kids had fun and enjoyed their time on the field. However, some coaches don't care about that either if their only goal is accumulating trophies. Kids need to be working on getting better, not necessarily winning. Winning is a by-product. |
