My son whom was at 7u used this bat in the spring/summer of 2012. He is still using it now for our light fall season in 8u travel ball.

Size was 27/17 and this was a great bat. It was the first big barrel (2 5/8 was perfect) and to my surprise it was not too heavy for him to swing. Very balanced and a lot of pop. Durable as well, besides the normals scuffs on it, its still perfectly fine. 4 or 5 of his teammates always used this bat during the Spring. I recommend Easton bats and will stick with the brand.

He also has the 28/18 2 3/4 barrel version of this bat. He still likes the 2 5/8 better because it is a little easier to swing. I would like him to move up to the 28/18 by the time the spring 2013 season starts. Made the mistake of buying the Worth Lithium Edge Prodigy: SL1058 (28/18 2 5/8 barrel) prior to the 28/18 Easton and my son hated it after one practice & one game. Doesn't sound the same when you hit with it, ball just doesn't go as far.

My experience with this bat has been the exact opposite of ABC_Baseball. I bought my son the Easton S3: SL11S310B (2 3/4) in February 2012 and it dented in two places on opposite sides of the barrel. So, we paid for the cross country trip from TN to CA for a replacement. Easton returned us a new SL11S310B and in the first at bat on the first ball hit, the end cap dislodged about 1/4" and the bat was dead with zero pop. I tried to fix it myself but it would not stay in place and the bat was dead. I called Easton back up and sent this bat on the cross county trip to CA. Easton made a mistake this time and sent us the SL11S310 (2 5/8). I figured what did I have to lose by keeping it since it was not cheap to ship the bat cross country and the SL11S310B kept denting. This one lasted a little longer than the first two but now it has a dent in the barrel. My son is the only player using these bats so its not like a massive amount of balls are being hit with them. I will say that my son swings the bat fairly hard so if your son does the same, then you are probably better off spending the extra money for a composite bat which is what we are doing this season. Hopefully, we will have better luck with it. Many of the players on our team last season used the SL11S310 without many issues at all so I am sure that the major contributing factor to our poor experience is my son's swing speed. He used an Easton Rival season before last and it also dented. He also has an Omaha SL126 (which has not dented but it doesn't have many swings on it) but he likes the feel of the S3 much better. If we could just get one that wouldn't dent. :-)

Most bats are going to dent or gets dents. Just finish out the season if possible. Send them in at the end of the season and get a new bat.

Few people will discuss one of the critical factors in bat selection which is balance. Since there are no number criteria available to compare one to another, it is difficult to quantify. The player must go by "feel". It is very subjective.

The Worth Prodigy has been my choice for the kids through 11u due to the combination of balance and performance. They dent!! It helps to have another bat for BP.

ABC - 28/18 is the bat most of my kids used at 10u, so use that as an indicator for your 8u son. I had only 2 kids swing 29/19, and both were 5' and >100#. I have generally found that these so called programs on the web that help choose bat size pick one too long.

gvblack - most of the sites say that by size my 8u son should be using like a 29 now, which I know is too big (he is a quarter inch shy of 53 inches and about 68 lbs). We will hang on to the 28 since he favors the 27 so much at this point. He did much better last practice against the coaches throwing it in there pretty good and I don't want to screw anything up by having him switch bats to the 28.

My son has both the Worth Prodigy and the Easton S3 in 29/19. First let point out that the S3 is a full once heavier than listed. It actually weighs 20.2 ounces. The Prodigy is right on 19 ounces. No question between the 2 bats the Prodigy has more pop. I can tell this by watching my son hit and by using both bats to hit fly balls in practice. If I were just watching my son I would I would hypothesize that the weight difference was giving him extra bat speed and that would be the difference but like I said I can tell the difference when I swing it as well. I would guess that not all S3’s are overweight, mine just happens to be. Both bats are excellent. You can’t go wrong with either one.
