If you can pick up another player to pick up the costs then absolutely yes. If not then it is more of a decision by all the parents on the team because they will all be having to put more money in to cover the costs. It is a tough one because most of the money is probably already spent and can't imagine that every other parent on the team just has extra money laying around to throw more in the pot. Hopefully you can find a replacement and all works out.
Need some opinions here; a player injured himself pitching a week ago and is out for the season. Prorated refund for the rest of the season or ??????
sorry but why should team refund money?
Don't get me wrong I don't think the team is responsible for refunding the money. However, since youth baseball should not be a money making business then I think if another player is found to cover those costs then it would be the right thing to do in this type of situation. This is much different than a player just leaving to go play with someone else in which case no money should be refunded even if another player is picked up. If a player leaves and another is picked up then any extra money should be used to play an extra tournament or two or maybe even do something for the boys.
I've dealt with this in two different seasons where two of my three sons had experienced season ending injuries. In neither case did I get a refund or expect it. That's the breaks. I didn't plan on it happening, but neither did the team/other families. The budget was based on "X" number of players and divided equally among them. Not their responsibility to have to pay more as a result of our misfortune any more than it should have been mine if another kid had been injured.
I do agree that if a player is picked up then there may be some prorated refund possibility, but no guarantee and it shouldn't be expected.
Thanks for all of the good feedback. My gut told me that we should refund funds if we find a paying replacement, otherwise it is what it is. Really stinks for the player and his teammates. Key player.
