This has turned out to be a VERY solid field. Looks like a few teams that did not get the chance to hit the field last weekend squeezed into this tournament. Astros in Florida this weekend, but a very strong field regardless. Let the banter begin!!!! Oh and who is ready to tap Arthur Blank to flip the bill for a few retractable dome fields for these boys to play in various conditions?

May be easier for Arthur to finance retractable dome fields for travel ball than work with the powers-that-be for the falcons, eh?

I just hope the winner {again} this weekend is not Mother Nature. Weather.com shows 50% chance of rain Friday & 30% chance of rain on Saturday. With all the 12U teams (D1 = 30, D2 = 24) - will there be enough field time to make up games if the rain hits Fri-Sat like this past weekend?

Any predictions on this one for D1 and D2. I think we all know who some of the favorites in D1 are but what about the D2 tournament? Any good match ups in pool play in either one? I have not seen the schedule yet but heard it was out.

In D2, I like Sharon Springs Blue but so many teams who can win that one. In D1, I like the Braves, Stars, Hobgood and Rays to come out in the final 4 teams. Here are my match ups that I want to see in pool, these are the best match ups in mho.

EC Spartans vs. RBA Titans
Sandy Plains vs. Georgia Grays

Pools J, G and H seem to be the toughest draws. The teams in the G brackets will use some pitching to make it to the Gold bracket. Looks like the ECB Warriors or the Longhorns had schedule conflicts moving the Longhorns into the H pool and giving the Smash some breathing room saving their big pitchers. Pool match ups to watch - 643 Vs Longhorns. Grays Vs SP Wildcats. RBA Titans Vs Spartans. Braves over Grays in the Gold ship!

Good match ups:
Longhorns v. 643
Sandy Plains v. Grays
Rays v. NG Bulldogs

A lot of good teams in this one. Interesting that no one is really talking about the Longhorns! Any news on the Longhorns? North Gwinnett is always sound, Rays had a solid showing last few outings, Braves are the Braves and look for both Titans(RBA and Alph) to make some noise. D2 is wide open, very competitive group of teams. A lot of balance in that division.

Tough call a lot of teams have not played a game yet. On paper these teams should be good but maybe not this early in the season.

ONEWAY! You think it is enough to keep them on top considering all of the loses they've had? Seems to me that the teams that gel the quickest are the one's that are most successful. Plus, they drew a tough pool, Monarchs appear to be solid and 643 is always tough.

Rakin,

You are 100% correct, we had several key losses and haven't played 1 tournament game so hopefully we can get the rust off quick enough to not get run ruled against 643. They are always well coached and have played us tough for years, don't know much about the Monarch but hear they were tearing it up in AAA and got the quick bump to majors so we drew the toughest schedule without a doubt.

We look forward to the challenge, hopefully we can split the pool games and sneak into the gold bracket as one of the last ones in. Braves are the team to beat, they haven't missed a beat.

Don't underestimate the Longhorns. They may have a few different players but that does not mean they'll have a drop off in talent. This team has a very good coaching staff and has a lot of talent. I expect them to be a top five team at years end.

ecbpappi,
Yeah! I hear ya. No excuses from us. We ran into some buzzsaw pitching from the Thrasher's. But we did find it strange that the 2-0 #s 3,4,5,6 seeds had to hang around all night and then play a 10pm bracket game while 4 of the lowest seeds got to go home early, rest for the evening and start bracket play on Sunday?? Was this because they were behind because of the rain-outs from Friday?? I don't know, seemed odd to me.

I agree the game times did not make much sense....almost was worth it to be a lower seed and come fresh the next day. One thing I will say, is all of the teams that had easy pool play games, struggled in bracket. It also seems like some teams (I think most people know who I am talking about) always get cake walks in the pool play games which allows them to save their better pitching for bracket play. Just take a peek at the Super NIT next week.... and you will see similar patterns.

At this point, from what I saw this weekend, the top 4 teams coming out of this tournament are Braves, Longhorns, Thrashers and XXX. The Titans could be the 4th but, they are one of the teams that had a walk in the park during pool play and most of bracket play. First tough team they saw, they got blown out.

Long season ahead and there will be several different teams winning tournaments this year. There will most likely not be one dominate team from this area. And with Team Florida loosing in Florida this weekend, it shows you anyone can be beat!

Not sure what games you were watching, but I didn't see anyone saving pitching. Gotta give the other teams their props. Hobgood was a sleeper but no more. They have gotten everyone's attention. It was a good tournament.

Ballfan14,

I don't think the Titans playing two major teams (the EC Spartans are a major team)in pool play is cake. The Thrashers came out hitting from the first pitch and made all the plays (we had no strikouts so the ball was put in play). It was just one of those games with the Thrashers taking control right from the start. Obviously they are a very good team. Congrats to them on a great tourney.

titans, that monarch team gave up 24 runs and scored 1 finishing as the last seed in pool. I didn't see them play but they are no major team just as the spartans are not, they are a good aaa team tho. That other Monarch team is legit, beating 643 14-4 and Sandy Plains 10-4.

Sounds like Hobgood was rollin 7's today and could do wrong, solid win.

Guys, I surely am not taking anything away from the Thrashers! They have a great team and anytime you can beat the Braves, it really shows you got something. As you stated, they now have the target on their back!

I also will not take anything away from any of the young men that were playing on the field this weekend. However, there were a few of the "stronger/major" teams that had "easier" pools. They did not have to throw their Sunday pitchers until Sunday. Based on the luck of the draw, other teams had to throw some of the Sunday pitchers just to make it to the Gold bracket. With the format change in Triple Crown, this has a big impact.

It also appears, the same strong team(s) seem to get the easier pool play games week after week (going forward from last year) so the above scenario repeats itself.

Next week will be interesting, you have to do your best or their is no Sunday.

Folks instead of making statements about "who had it easier","who is not as good", "this team won because" etc...Let's just acknowledge the fact that this year (at least to this point) there is no clear cut dominating team. I for one as a fan will enjoy watching these kids play their butts off, all believing that they have as good a chance as anyone to win.

On Sunday the team playing the best baseball won...In my opinion that is how it's going to play out this year.

I agree with the comments about the different brackets. Personally I think triple crown tournaments are poorly run and really don't like them. I have had multiple scheduling issues and umpires not showing up on time over the years. Then you have to call the world to find someone to help you out.

I think in the Major bracket, you either sign up for the gold or you sign up for silver/bronze. You don't play 2 games to determine that, it is stupid in my opinion. You are putting a good bit of your fate in who you draw in those 2 games. In the DII bracket it was a flip of the coin basically for the silver bracket with 1-1 teams. So you burn your better pitching to try and make the gold bracket, if you are competetive. If you want to play for a trophy you sandbag the pool play and pitch studs in the bronze bracket.

Cant wait until May/June when everybody has a few games under their belt. You talk about Parody! There are a lot of very talented teams in this age group, Any given tournament!
