Thats a tough call! Braves of course. Then the rest is a questionable. 6 innings the whole tourney is tough so who has the deepest pitching should do well in this tourney. A tune up for Super Nit.

I like the Braves and Rays in the finals in what is the most anticipated match up of the year. Noticed some teams not in this like Stealth, Smash, SP Wildcats and a couple others, have they gone fishing??

I don't know how you guys even think about picking a winner in this one. Middle Ga, GA Grays, Home Plate, Hobgood, Roswell Parkview ect... all have great teams with great kids. The East Cobb teams also should be good and it will be fun to see the Astros for the 1st time

This will be another tight tournement and the Braves might have an edge after playing well last week on the same fields.

Best of luck to all and I will hold off on a prediction until the Brackets are set.

Braves are a safe pick but the other 3 teams in the semi's can come from about 12 other teams in the field. Being the 1st tournament for most, outcome of the games will be unpredictable.

Braves and Astros will meet before semi finals if at all. Im not drinking the koolaid just yet but on paper they look strong. I look forward to watching them play but with 31 teams some good teams will face off early on in elimination. There are a few close calls in pool play also and it depends how much people will save pitching. As usual we are short a few players but this time it is not little league but school ball. We may have to settle for silver bracket unless I just burn pitching just to make the big show!!! Then of course one and done. Wow I do love this game! Hope the weather holds out !!

This past weekend I saw a lot of great pitching, however, pitching has to be followed up with great fielding. In ten plus games I watched fielding gave up most the runs not pitching. Probably not enough fielding time for a lot of teams this early in the season?

Baseball America is sending a freelance writer colleague of mine to this event. He stated it is primarily due to the density of solid teams (even with some notables missing) at this event in the 12u age grouping. This should be a great event. Putting my journalistic slant aside I will say that the pitching on the elite teams may not be strong enough to stave off an upset or two or three!

And Glenn who is the "Money 9"?

Gwinnett and FLABB make great points about pitching. I do have a query for all the futurist out there. I see a lot of talk about the Longhorns, Astros, Hobgood, which may be rightfully deserved, but didn't the Alpharetta Titans make it to the finals last weekend and play the Braves pretty tough? To Gwinnett's point, they appeared to be one of the most solid defensive teams this early in the season. Early on, it is clear to see that defense and catching are key componets this season. It is also fun to see those teams with speed using it to their advantage, playing real baseball! I also see the Rays making a run in this as well.

Finally a voice of reason, most of the teams being picked haven't played a game this spring and the Alpharetta team is steady and very talented.

I think it'll take the Astros 3-4 tournaments to know what they have since most of the kids haven't played together in the past. Longhorns are rebuilding and is Hobgood ready to step up into the limelight? The additions are great on paper but what have you done for me lately?

Not sure about the term "money 9" but I get the feeling he's talking about the 9 best kids being on the field since there are 9 positions. In a sense, I think most parents are trying to figure this out and most will come Sunday and lil Johnny is sitting the bench.

Glenn,

I've been known to surprise some folks with my clever whits, every once in a while I do have an original thought. Money 9 is a relative term though, you may sit a kid the 1st 3 innings then bring him into to pitch so is he a money 9 player? Probably but you will now see more strategy involved with this age group then ever before. Now, many teams will just bat everyone and let the chips fall where they may but i am willing to bet about half will bat 9 players in pool like real baseball.

Are you serious Spartan? The only thing this does is give kids less playing time for what? A better seed? I can understand some of the top teams doing this in bracket play since they are there to win but to sit kids on the bench during pool play just does not make sense to me. They are 12 and we are supposed to be teaching them every chance we get.

As far as it not being real baseball, that is ridiculous. So there is free substitution and everyone gets to bat. Not really sure how that is a bad thing. When we were 12 we were still playing little league rules with no leading off, no balks, no dropped third strike, pitching from 46', etc.

There is plenty of time in the future that these kids will be sitting on the bench but in my opinion 12 years old is not the time.
