It was a tight game. Astros got game. Now that they got the rust off, I expect them to be playing on Sundays. Pitching was impressive. The Hornets threw a lot of curves = more than any other pitch. They hit the ball hard but the Astros had it covered when they did. Nice solo HR from the Astros over center field fence (so I was told)...That had to be a shot.
So for full disclosure I am a Hornet Parent. My son pitched 2 of the innings and while we did throw some curves I can assure you not more than any other pitch. We threw a lot of change ups as well. It was a tight game. We actually had more hits than the Stros and both teams played solid defense. Our bugaboo was walks and a team like the Stros with their athletes run the bases very well and they took full advantage of the free passes. Two of the 5 or 6 walks we issued scored and the HR, while a shot, was to RC-not deep center. Kudos to #25 on that hit--we got the ball up and he took full advantage. We held them scoreless the last 3 innings but the problem was they did the same to us. We couldn't come up with a timely hit and the first Stros hurler was very good-- he had a nasty hook. Our boys played very well and so did the Stros--we hope to get another crack at them in the future. It's early in the season and I think both teams will improve-- we are playing with the big boys now and it's gonna help us taking some lumps along the way and getting to see all this great pitching that is in high abundance around here. Wish we could've finished up the tourney--it would've been a lot of fun.
Will get you guys a report on the Stros next week in Fla. Cannot wait to see them and hope we get to play them so I can provide first hand how good they are. Expecting them to be a force in Fla.
Thank you. We're dying to no how they look and play???
