It is the middle of Feb and my son's team has had only 2 practices this year.

On past teams, we would have had 8+ meetings by now.

How often have other (most teams) been meeting?

At least 3 per week since the middle of January.

We have practiced at least 3 times a week since Jan 3. This includes 1day strength and conditioning at gym, One day a batting cages, now up to twice a week on the field to include A couple of scrimmage games too. We played three tournaments in the fall to acclimate new players and took the month of december off. Play our first tourney this coming weekend.

It will vary by level, money spent and connections. Seriously.

I'm familiar with the details of several teams. Seriously.

Some have zero access to outdoor space until 2/1. It rained that day. They get 2 field practices a week. They also pay big bucks for the complete run of an indoor facility plus pro coaching 2 days a week.

Others have tons of outdoor time and a couple hours of cage time weekly. January was mild, so there were some early outdoor practices but now that field space is being assigned it seems to be slowing down.

Hey here's a hint. Ask why field/ practice time is limited and supplement that lack of reps by having your son take some lessons or maybe get some reps with another team.

I agree it is 100% money based. Want to pay 5k to play, then you will should get tons of practice.

It doesn't have to be that cost prohibited.

For the 5-6 weeks in January and February you can get great team training in for less than $200.00 per kid (probably as much or less than the new bat you get him every year). You can get 40 hours of cage rentals and 10-12 1 hour speed and agility sessions at a facility. If you use 2 cages twice a week for two hours (one pitching/one hitting) you can get 20 hours of indoor time and 2 one hour S&A training per week. As weather permits use your limited field time. That's like 30 hours for $5.00 to $6.00 per hour.

Once the tourney's start in February you can go with one outdoor proactice a week and maybe one hitting session a week.

11u: don't know where you live but speed agility alone is averaging $150 per kid for 12 sessions. Also, around here cage time is $50+ an hour for 2 cages. Add actual instructors and the cost goes up. I truly believe those crowded cages where mass chaos ensues everyday from 5-close isn't helping any player do anything but reinforce bad habits.

Sure, some teams don't mind the chaos and run stuff on the fly and by the seat of their pants and others have all the details in place and aren't fighting for cage time.

I know I'm opinionated. I have good reason to be.

Obviously you do. I too am a legend in my own mind.

But I actually look at the other way, you have to be opinionated to have a good reason. LOL

We try to do at least 5 hours a week of practice split between indoor cages and outdoor field time. Usually a 1 hr cage session on 1 day and 2 hours of field time on a weeknight and 2 hr field sessions or scrimmages on sat and sun. We schedule a lot of sessions b/c the weather is not cooperative this time of year. But its been so good this season that we have gotten a lot of work in and are going to get in some tourneys earlier than we planned.
