Last December (2010), I purchased a new Easton Surge bat for my son. It did not have a USSSA stamp on it.
We noticed the that the new Surge bats are the same color and design with the same model number but they include the stamp.
Will the rules ban this bat simply because it does not have a USSSA 1.15 stamp?
Is this a consipiracy between USSSA and the bat manufacturers? |

Yes to both questions.....This is a money grab
People have become so obsessed with safety bat manufacturers responded...What is worse is there are people out there who honestly think there is a difference between the two bats. The hottest bats which had the most drama revolving around them are still ok to use and haven't changed a bit....People say things like "make every bat BBCOR" or let's go to wood bats....We broke 3 wood bats with one kid during the fall and the BBCOR bats can be cheated up as well...I don't really see any legit option left other than people stop flipping out when an accident occurs(screaming/claiming the bat was cheated/ same goes for teams flipping out when they are accused....too much drama) or sanctioning bodies can TEST THE BATS....It isn't 100% accurate and .05% of the time even new bats fail but they are accurate FAR more than inaccurate. |

I'll leave it up to you to determine if there's a conspiracy or not, however the bat you purchased in December, 2010 would not be legal IF it is a big barrel bat.
If it is 2-5/8 or 2-3/4 inches in diameter, it MUST have the NEW USSSA stamp to be used in USSSA, Triple Crown, and NationsBaseball tournaments. Apparently USTSA is not banning bats based on the new USSSA regs, but I believe that they are the only sanctioning body that is allowing large barrel bats without the new stamp to be used.
If it is 2-1/4 inch barrel, and has the old USSSA 1.15 bpf stamp, then you could use it this season. |

Oh well, there goes another $250-$300! To make matters worse, my other son's bats can't be "handed down" anymore.
I assume whether or not a bat is legal is based on the tournament rules used. Some tourneys use USSSA but tourney organizers have the right to change the requirements unless of course if the event is sanctioned by USSSA. If not, I assume the old bat would be ok.

If you still have the receipt, dent the bat and send it back for a new one. |

MAPSTRE has a good suggestion, but only if it's still in warranty period. You stated in your original post that you purchased it in December of 2010. But you also say "last December" which would have been 2011. Most Easton's have a 400 day warranty, so you're probably past even their warranty period if purchased in 2010.
As to your comment about the tourney organizers setting the rules, you're correct. Triple Crown and NationsBaseball have both already stated that they're adopting the rule. USTSA has stated that they are not. So if you may find one or two tourneys out there that won't require the u-trip stamped bats, but they will be rare.
If you did purchase it in 2010, then at least you got one season out of it and it's not a total loss. Your son is probably needing a larger size anyway. The good news is that bat prices have come down with the new regs. I think that most bats have pretty similar pop now since they have to conform to the 1.15 standard, so not as many people willing to shell out an extra $100 for a "hot" bat. I know Rawlings Plasma is priced from $70 - $100 new with the new stamp. Many bats that used to be priced in the $199 range are now in the $160 - $250 range, so not at bad a hit to your wallet. |

If you used the Easton Surge, you could use the Easton Rival(with stamp), just paid $200 for a pack of 2 bats. My son split the cost with a teammate, it's basically the same bat as the surge for $100. Look up Justbats.com plenty of deals going on right now. |
