So I think I have waited as long as I can. Has anyone started using a BBCOR bat? My son just wants to stay with wood, but I would like a metal bat, just in case. |

My son is 14u, and he swung BBCOR all fall. He's 5'9" 145 and swings very hard. What I've seen is that they are definitely better than wood bats, and those that can hit can still hit. The smaller guys who the bat helped out more will see a larger drop off than the guys who could really hit. |

Thanks nasty curve,
Have you seen any preference in one bat over another? (my son is 5' 11" 200, so he has no trouble swinging.) |

I havent seen too much of a preference out there. Ive seen some lean towards the 5150 because south carolina won the championship swinging those, but a couple kids on our team use them adn I dont particularly care for or against them. We tried out a couple and my son went with teh Easton XL2 that he has fallen in love with. Ive heard good things about the combat and the Mariucci cat 5/black bats.
Where do you guys work out? |

My son (14U, 6'2", 200 lbs) moved from a 2011 DeMarini Voodoo to a 2012 DeMarini CF5, both are 33/30. He loved his Voodoo so he was predisposed to DeMarini. At better baseball, he swung the CF5, Voodoo, 5150, Cat 5, and a couple of Eastons. Of those, the CF5 felt the best to him. The 5150 felt the worst.
It took him 3 or 4 sessions in the batting cage to get used to the new bat. It definitely has a lot less pop than his Voodoo. The sound of the bat took a while to get used to. A lot less "ping" than his previous bats, but not the crack of a wooden bat.
He has a wood bat (34/31) that he prefers to swing, but he knows he has to get used to the BBCOR.
If you're getting ready for HS tryouts at the end of month, I'd get him the bat ASAP and get to an indoor batting cage so he can get acclimated to the new bat.

Interesting Forum but seems has drifted mostly to the younger ages
So , what is the feedback after several weeks now on the high school age players bats , say drop 3s @ 31" on up ?? |

Well despite all my shortcomings, at least I'm honest. My son is an 8th grader 14u and chose the demarini m2m bbcor bc he had a good tryout in August with it. He did hit a triple with it a few weeks back, but is currently trying out the marucci and the Easton. Marucci yielded a big double this past weekend (would have been out if -5 1.15). I've seen him swing several bbcor bats and honestly, you have to just hit the ball right. His team mates all hit very well and try to hit 300' bombs at practice with those bbcor bats, but they don't succeed. On the team are marucci black and whit, Easton black and white, all 4 demarini and a couple I can't remember. Nobody is standing out except for the 1-2 who hit the most consistently. |

The Easton Power Brigade S1 became very popular with a number of the starters on my son's team. Very solid bat, all-composite, with somewhat of a wood-like sound. Very expensive bat at $400. The bat has a lighter swingweight (i.e. more weight towards the handle), making it a little easier to generate bat speed. |

The BBCOR drop 3 TPX Z1000 my son loves. He was a power hitter before and still remains that way just not to the extreme he was. It is a different bat and each kid will respond differently. My son is in the 8th grade and played on both his 9th grade team as well as the JV team using this bat. He refuses to use the Easton he has or a lighter bat during USSSA play. |

My 16U player is on his second Rip-It. His first one (2011/red version) was awesome....unfortuntely it snapped in-two during hitting instruction...the bat was approx 7 months old with 1,000's of swings on it. Rip-It sent him the new Prototype II. I had read that it was not as hot as the previous year's model....I have not seen the difference. He got the new bat about 5 games into the season. The day it arrived, I got it to him just before pre-game BP, and he proceeded to hit the center field fence in his first AB. Went onto finish the season at .442...so needless to say, he's a big fan of all the Rip-It bats. On another note....Personally, not a big fan of the Easton Power Brigade S1's. |

Curious, where do you play that you can play JV in 8th grade? Private School?
