ECB Yankees are playing some good ball. They would be my pick. Good game tonight between Titans and Thrashers. |

Brackets seem to be filled out but I'd like to see the Pool Play Scores...

We're a 13U team and don't know anything yet either. Kinda tough to go to bed when you don't know if you're playing 1st thing in the morning or not! |

Yanks had a couple of manageable pool games but ended up in silver, look for them to run the silver bracket. |

Pool play information was removed & still no update on the brackets...I think tournament directors need understand that this is a BIG part of running a tournament!
With the popularity of this board and in the spirit of the information age, COMMUNICATION is key...the bar has been raised & Tournaments are graded based on the timely information they provide (pocket updates, pool play & bracket score updates). |

I agree with Yankeedad. The lack of scoring updates throughout this tournament was very frustrating. Half the fun of being in a tournament is watching what the competition is doing. They really missed the mark on this one and will cause us to re-evaluate in the future. |

Yankee Dad....this board is a powerful tool but do not write based on assumptions! We were in this tournament as well and the tournament was very well ran again this year. The tournament director personally called all of the head coaches with game schedules for Sunday bracket play when they ran into problems with the internet connections on site....60 phone calls takes some time!? The one down fall was that they jammed a ton of teams into the tournament and this made pool play run late on Saturday night, and then it made communication run late as well once they had the internet issues. May want to think about ending earlier on Saturday so all can plan. When communication is key....they did a good job with the challenges they had. I, as one of the head coaches, knew this tournament would not leave me hanging on communication......in my opinon, great job Sharon Springs!! |

ECBATT, We were in this tournament too, and we agree with YankeeDad , we do not believe YankeeDad made any wrong assumptions
here is how we saw the tournament:
1. Planning, seeding, & scheduling -
Sharon Springs Shootout Scheduled too many games really close together and then changed the length of the game time from 1:40 to 1:35 right before the tournament starts, bait & switch, the pool scheduling lacked simple common sense, the pool seeding did not make much sense
2. Communication - to both the public and coaches -
Poor communication before, during and after the tournament, lacked a back up plan for their internet problems
3. Facilities & Field care / maint -
Fields 6 and 7, were actually fully raked once per day, home plate and second base area were in awful shape, with deep, deep holes for both batter and catcher and umpire to have to climb out of...
4. Umpires & consistency -
Ok umpires, seemed to be pretty consistent for both teams, occasionally some were consistently bad but for both teams
5. Effort of the tournament director / crew -
Poor effort, did not see any of them break a sweat to get fields in shape.....
Overall - We would not play in Sharon Springs Park run tournament again. Our suggestion is this group needs to get some professional help from AAU, USSSA, TCS, Nations, Southern

PATbb, Our team completey agrees with your opinions on this past weekend. We were in the AA side of the event and could not aggree more with oyur observations. Only thing I may disagree with is that the umpires were way worse than you even mentioned. We had the worst umpiring experience of the season. Absolutely rediculous calls!! Not sure the exact number, but around 60 teams in this tournament at 395 a team, that equals over $23,000. Sharon Springs use some of that $$ and pay some trained and qualified umpires to ump the games. I know our team was not the only ones who had problems. I witnessed 2 other games where coaches and fans were outraged at the level of umpiring. Saw the TD having to be called on to solve problems on the field. My advice . . .if you want even 1/2 of the teams you had this year back, you need to get qualified umpires. I can promise you we wont be back! Very frustrating end to the season. |
