Just a reminder that anyone planning to play in a USSSA World Series event (Elite, Global, etc...) must play in the state tournament. The Georgia State Tournament will be held at East Cobb from 6/8-12. Information is available at www.eastcobbbaseball.com. The event will start on either Wednesday June, 8th or Thursday the 9th depending on participation. Currently the following teams have entered:
Bandits Baseball East Cobb Astros East Cobb Luck Georgia Jackets Gold 643 Cougars
Should be a very competitive way to fill some June dates and prepare for national competition. See you then. |

According to USSSA rules you must play in your state championship in order to validate your Elite 32 berth. |

This is correct, we will be leaving for Cooperstown this Thursday so it is not possible for us to play in the state tournament. We originally requested week 9 from Cooperstown but they told us the only week available to us was week #2.
We have contacted Bubba and are trying to work out a solution such as paying the tournament fee or playing in another state's tournament to satisfy this requirement. Hopefully, a team who has won 5 super NIT's would not be denied their berth due to something like this. Our families have already secured lodging for both Cooperstown and Disney.
Does anyone know if this is strictly a GA USSSA requirement or do all states make the same requirement of playing in their state tourney? I noticed that the California and Nevada teams that participated in the Elite 32 (12u) last year did not participate in their state tournaments. Just curious. |

Bandit Hawk we are in a hard spot too, we have two kids out ,one with a broken thumb and the other is in PICU at the childrens hospital in Macon. I call Mr. Smith and told him that there was no way we could play in the state tournament this week, because we were planning to go to Orange Beach at the end of July. I was told that there was no exceptions to the state rule. We offered to play up in the 13 age group in south Ga. or send him the money and forfit the games in the state tournament. Tim Nichols that runs USSSA in south Ga. called Mr.Smith and he got with Matt and said that we could not do none of the above. So we had to call Alabama and the are sending our money back but we still lost the down payments for the condos. So please let me know the outcome on your end is. |

Bandit Hawk: We experienced the same thing last year winning 4 Super NIT's with Lynn Haven Lonoghorns. We were told by the Florida State Director that if we waited until the state tourn in Pace and it got rained out or the tourn did not make, we would not be going to Disney. Our other option was to play 5 weeks in a row and missing two starting pitchers to LL and play in Lake City in an earlier state tourn., which we did.
Sounds like U tripp has got a predicament on its hands. I surely hope there is some amicable solution. Best of luck. Very curious as to how they handle this.

I don't think it is that big a deal really. There were several participating teams in the 12u Elite last year that did not play in their state tournaments for one reason or another. There was at least one GA team that did not play in the state tournament but played in the Elites in another age group.
The Bandits are not asking for the rules to be broken. USSSA has the power to grant a special exemption at their discretion. We are pursuing it privately with USSSA officials and would prefer that it stay private until a final decision is rendered.
We realize that some folks out there would like nothing more than for the Bandits to be left out of the Elites. Of course, those folks aren't considering the 12 year olds that will have their hearts broken as a result. |
