I have not read a lot about his tournament on here. I want to take my hat off to the TD for putting on a VERY good tournament. First tournament in a while that we went to that the umpires did a very nice job at. The strike zone was consistant and IF they made a mistake, they always cleared it up and let you know it. Umpires sometimes do not know it is not that they make a mistake, sometiems we coaches just want to hear them say "Hey, I missed it". It is much easier to take. At least we know they know the rule, they just did not see it.
6-4-3 facility on Aviation was very well maintained before every game. Fields were totally drug, re-lined and it made the games much nicer. Playing a full 6 innings was much more like real baseball instead of the time limit. Great job to all who put this on.
Thanks Hawk. I'm not sure all of the coaches will be as complimentary to the umpires, but I appreciate the comments. We used One Source Umps for both the Regionals and Championships. We paid extra for the umpires to play with no time limit and get the best umps available. And we had 4 umpires for our Championship Series on Sunday to which was a nice luxury. My only request to One Source Umps was to not send umps to Jacket Field that we knew.
Note: the fact that you've never seen an umpire before still doesn't matter when bang-bang calls go to the host team. I'm not sure what I can do about that other than have our team not play in our tournament.
Thanks to all of the coaches, players and parents who participated in the GWS this year. We tried hard to work with everybody's schedule the best we could to provide a unique event for Georgia 12u baseball. Special thanks to Coach Pralgo and 643 DP Academy for working with our last minute plans this week to make their field available Fri. night and Saturday. And thanks to Jacket parents and siblings who worked hard to to be the best host we could.
Congratulations to Coach Tony and the Sandtown Red Sox for surviving 27 other top teams and playing some great baseball.
