Give me a break. We drive 6-7 hours to attend a Alabama Super NIT and find out we get our neighbors the East Cobb Astros the very first game. Why not just stay home and play here. Papa knows there is a reason for this stupidity but I did want to see how you guys feel when this kind of junk happens. The good thing is that the loser of this game most likely goes into the other side of the bracket with Team Florida. |

For our 8 yr old world series for all star, we (Acworth) drove to Mississippi to play Shaw Park. Thought the same thing you are thinking. Craziness. |

If the pools were seeded properly according to USSSA published rules, what's your complaint? If they had separated teams geographically and you disliked your opponent then you'd be whining about how they don't follow their own rules. You're the one always saying that you'll gladly play whomever they put in the other dugout against you. Well, the Astros are in the other dugout . . .

Papa; you must have a crystal ball if you already know who will be where in bracket play 3 days before the tournament. We lost to a AAA team this past weekend and I can bet that there is no way to know where we will be for Sunday play.
As for the pool play games every team has points some have none but teams are placed in pools based on points. This is not a new thing, had the Bandits and TF traded points we would play the Astros and the Bandits would play the Sharks from AL. and Pace Sea Dogs from FL.
You do get to play the Gulf Coast Lightning (FL)and I believe the Bandits are 1 and 1 against them so this will give you guys the chance to break the tie. |

in the know: You seem to be as much in the know as my 2 year old grandson but I hope you can throw as good as he can. This will be the 3rd time the Bandits will have played the Astros this year and will most likely play them 8-10 times before this year is over so there is not whining on my part about who we play. And just because USSSA uses the flawed points system doesn't make it the best method. You would think to drive 6-7 hours that you would have the opportunity to play against some fresh faces which was the major point I was making. If you get the chance bring your team and plop them down in the other dugout as the Bandits always love a good challenge. |

Sorry Papa, I can't support you on this one, but agree it's unfortunate. At least you know you'll be tested. I'd rather play a familiar team that is capable of testing us, than a unfamiliar team who we would beat 15-0 if I were in the Bandits Boombah's. |

Yeah 10BB: they used to call me NostraPapa instead of Nostradamus and I understand your point but this is the first time I heard you brag that you got beat by a AAA team. This A, AA, AAA, Elite thing gives me a headache. We can all get beat by anyone and the point I was making was not in the strength of the team we were playing just noting that we are traveling a long way to play our next door neighbor. |

With the sandbagging that occurs in Florida, it doesn't surprise me at all. The AAA team the beat TF probably has 8 kids that have played major for 5 years and 4 kids that throw 70!! |

Yes but whether that team sandbagged or not they still were playing in the Major division. In due time they will be moved to major by one of the Florida TD's . This snit in Ala will have some surprises

Does that mean your son will be guest playing with Gulf Coast Lightning or maybe the Louisiana team? Give us a hint; what makes you say that there will be some surprises? There are not many teams registered for that tournament and most of the teams have a well defined history.

Looks like there is only one pool now ( A ). With a little planning a team could make bracket play a little easier to get to the championship. This however is one issue I think Usssa needs to improve. A lot of times the teams who enter a tournament with the most points get to play more new and unseasoned teams in pool play. |

Rec-ball against one of the better teams in the league. we also have an advanced baseball team to prepare us for the all-star tournaments. We probably could compete with AA and AAA teams. Hopefully we can compete for the state title and then the regional. Not as sexy as 14u showcase events but my son has fun playing with his schoolmates. Are you almost guaranteeing an upset at the Alabama super NIT? That would be interesting.

It doesnt matter whether its A AA AAA or Majors as long as your son is having fun that is all that matters. I think too much weight is placed on these divisions in Usssa. I know rec ball and AA players that are better than several major division players and several major division players that shouldnt be playing at that level.
And YES there will be an upset!!!!

I'll be forever impressed if you're right. I'm amazed how you have so much inside information on teams from more than one state. I simply rely on reviewing stats on USSSA and Triple Crown. I don't do much with AAU. Most of the information I get is from these forums and people like you.

Maybe you meant an upset stomach after losing 41-0. Were they playing football in Alabama? G-man is tomorrow the day of the upset?

Yes today is the day for the upset. I also found the way TF ran up the score on that unseasoned team was troubling. A friend of mine who was at that game said that TF was laughing and in his opinion in a manner of degrading this other team. I personally can not see any reason to run up 40 runs on ANY team.
I believed this could have been handled differently. TF had to know they were going to win so why not tell your team to bat left handed and swing to miss the ball or if nothing else just bunt the ball back to the pitcher and take your time running to 1st base. BUT to put 40 runs on those young men and degrade them is uncalled for in my book.

G-Man, you can send your son up to bat and ask him to swing 3 times to miss or give less than 100% but that will never happen with a team I'm affiliated with. Here's also what Team Florida did while they were 'laughing and degrading' the other team. 1st and 3rd base coaches were actually coaching the other teams players showing them how to get ready, how to hold a runner at 1st base.. Surely your 'friend' whoo was at the game noticed that the 1st baseman had no clue as to how to hold a runner. I'm sure your 'friend' also noticed the several balks the pitcher threw. When they changed him out, he went to play 1B. TF 1B coach also took the time to show him what he was doing wrong with the balk situation and also how to hold a runner on. The other team made error after error. After the 1st inning, I personally went and asked the umpire to open up the strike zone. We stopped running, stealing and went one base at a time.
Here's the bottom line. It was quite embarrassing for both teams. The other team should not have been at this tournament. The coaches and players were not prepared and did not know the basics for this level. It may have appeared different to others, but I assure you, if your 'friend' was paying close attention, he would have noticed the extra effort TF coaches took to help these players.
Ask Baseball Papa or any other Bandit parent if they would send their son or grandson to the plate with the instruction to awing 3 times to strike out. I think that is more of an insult than running up the score.
Did your 'friend' notice that the other team's coaches weren't really coaching. Instead of insulting our team, why not mention how the other teams coaches weren't prepared at all and did not do much coaching at all.
And no, this was not the way we ran up the score. The score was based on lack of talent and many errors.

Papa didn't see the game but I did see the AA team warming up and could see how the score could have happened. The Bandits have never beaten any team by 1/2 that much but we have never played a team that was more unprepared than this one was.
I hope and pray that the loss does not defeat them but challenges them to be better. One of my most favorite sayings is that we can learn much more from the loss than you can the easy wins. But to be honest this team was just massively overmatched and most likely did not know what they had signed up for.
Team Florida is a class act in my book and they might have made a mistake with this score and if I am guessing right I bet that they wish that it hadn't happened as much as most of us.
