Being from Georgia the Bandits have always worked hard to represent our great state and to showcase the baseball talent that we have always known is right here in our own backyard. I have always wrote that one of the biggest strengths the Bandits have is that we play in Georgia and do not have to travel great distances to put ourself in front of a great team that will push our game to the limit.

All we have to is to get into our cars and drive 50-75 miles and we can see what I believe is 5 of the top 20 teams in the nation. Playing in Georgia is a huge advantage for our team and we owe and I would like to thanks all of the Georgia teams for the hard work you all put into the game that make all of all better.

#2 is not acceptable for the Bandits and we have already looked up the #1 team the Dirtbags and got them in our sights for a rematch soon. The DirtBags beat us 7-6 in the South Carolina Super NIT in a truly great game so they have earned the #1 spot for now. At least being #2 we know that we have work to do and the boys will have no trouble in putting in the extra effort that will be required to regain the top spot.

BBpapa: I agree, the Bandits should be ranked #1 at this moment because they have played a much tougher schedule and beat better teams than the NC Dirtbags. Their only claim to fame is that they beat the Bandits in an anticlimatic game. The Dirtbags have decided to play exclusively in their own state and that will eventually hurt them.
Regarding who should be preseason #1. This all depends on the TBS definition of pre-season. If it is the ranking prior to the season starting, I have to agree with BanditHawk in that the previous year's top seeded team should be awarded the spot. Last year's #1 ranked team was the MBA Pride. If pre-season is defined as the present, then the Bandits should ranked on top. Since TBS mentioned that the Bandits have won the Atlanta Super NIT, they must be using the second definition of pre-season.
BBpapa: I don't agree with your statement that the Bandits don't have to travel too far within your own state to find the best competition available. Although the state of Georgia has many good 12-year old teams, there aren't that many ranked in the top 20 nationally.
Team Florida is a very good team and it is my opinion that more games have to be played before anyone can be sure how they stand. They haven't played that many tournaments or games. Only time will tell.
MBA Pride seems to reeling and seem to have been having some problems recently. They did win the Super NIT in Miami although the competition could have been better. It will be interesting how they will fare against Team Florida this coming weekend in a tournament to be held in Clearwater. This will be a good test for those two teams. Of course, there are other teams registered and ready to upset the two favorites.
The San Diego Stars should be ranked a lot higher than they are currently and there are many teams on the west coast with which few of us are very familiar.
It will be interesting to see the final ranking in August. Will the Dirtbags continue as #1. I doubt it very much. I could be wrong!

BBpapa: You are one crafty old guy. After reading your post on another forum, I can see that you're thrilled with the TBS rankings. Since the Bandits are currently ranked #2 behind the NC Dirtbags, you have a pretty good idea that the Bandits will handle them in Charlotte. What does this do for the Bandits in th standings?
As all of us grown up know the rankings are mainly for the parents, grandparents, coaches, family members, and friends. Some of the players hear these grown ups talking about them and they also may get a kick out of them. They really are simply the opinion of 1-2 people at TBS. The #1 ranked team may not even be currently ranked in the top 25. Who knows for sure at this moment? Nobody!

Bandits are #6 when I looked this morning at Power Rankings.
http://www.usssa.com/sports/Rank2.asp?State=0&ClassID=45&SeasonID=15&RankSystem=0

I guess the Bandits need to find the DirtBags, Team Florida, and MBA Pride Elite and make some adjustments to those Rankings!!!

Travel Ball Select rankings......TBS is subjective but at least those rankings reward you for playing other tournaments other than USSSA.

As someone from North Carolina, I truly doubt that the Dirtbags staying home to play will hurt them. North Carolina has arguably the best youth baseball in the south outside of Florida and Georgia, and the teams they face each weak are hardly lightweight like MLBScout indicates. This weekend, the Dirtbags are in a tournament with 2 participants from last year's Elite 32, the Megastars and Hitmen. Our team, the North Carolina Force has several ex-Dirtbag/Angels players on it, and are in the same tournament with them. And while not playing this weekend, you throw the Canes, Charlotte Americans, Wayne County Mustangs, and Caldwell Spartans in the mix, you have several stout teams that can compete with most teams on any day. What makes the Dirtbags so much better is that they do not make the errors that the other teams mentioned make..minus the Canes. Can they be beat? Absolutely, but you better be on top of your game, and pray for a few lucky bounces your way. Looking forward to seeing the Bandits and others in Charlotte in 2 weeks. Looks like Beaver Valley is coming down too. We owe them one from Triple Crown Summer Nationals a few years ago

My intention is not minimize the competitive ability of any particular team from NC. My point is tha to be the best, you have to play and beat the best. You admit in your post that Florida and Georgia have better youth baseball teams than North Carolina. Why not take advantage of good tournaments in those states instead of playing locally?
There are usually several teams at the Elite World Series whose competitive abilities are not up to par with those of the majority. The final standings reflect that.
...teams they face each weak.... Was this a sub-conscious slip?

It is still my opinion that teams from the Carolinas need to make an effort and travel south to play other teams from Georgia and Florida. That type of competition will only make them a much better team.

mlbscout,

How deep our your pockets? It takes a lot of effort to be able to travel and keep everyone's finances in mind with such a wonderful economy now... lol. Our team, Dirtbags, will play Super Nit in Rock Hill, SC (2 weeks), Chattanooga (Memorial Day), Elite 32. We have already been to Charlotte/Mooresville twice. We have numerous kids playing middle school baseball which is also a cost above the travel teams cost and some play on the weekends so it makes traveling that much harder. Since you seem to know how much traveling all these teams do. Please let me know how many times Bandits, MBA, and Team Florida our traveling outside of their area in the spring? Our schedule has been posted for over 2 months and people are looking which is great. We will give everyone our best, might not always come on the positive end but these boys have heart and dont give up. The Super NIT in Columbia in the fall was a freakin classic game of two teams, Bandits and Dirtbags, battling toe to toe on the diamond. We were fortunate to come up on the winning end but I wish we could play 50 games with those kind of teams and no doubt all the ballplayers would get extreme benefits from those kind of games. I wish money was no object and we could travel every weekend. I would bet that is why MBA backed out of the Georgia SUPERNIT. Just guessing though. Its definately not that we dont want to but there is some good competition in our own state and it keeps it affordable for our TEAM.

Thanks,
Cory

mlbscout: Keep us informed of the pay back game between the MBA Pride and Team Florida. I am sure that MBA will be up for this one and its going to be fun to see someone else in the cross hair of the gun besides the Bandits. Every game between these 2 in state rivals will be big this year and both will most likely not concede or hold back anything for this victory. Good Luck to both and may the best team that day win.

If you are not the "Doc" then you have certainly attended one of his many "Baseball Clinics" as your phiolosophy and way of looking at the game of youth baseball are close to each other if not identical.

I think that "Doc" Sanchez is one of if not the most passionate man that I have ever met when it comes to youth baseball. I don't always agree with his opinion or his assessment but I do always respect what he has to say because if you read closely you can see just how much personal knowledge he has of the teams he is discussing. Not that you are but if you or anyone else were the "Doc" then you should be proud.

I'm not a Doctor but sure would love to be one. It would make paying the bills a lot easier. Just got back from the graveyard shift and am very tired. Thanks for the compliments bbpapa. By the way, according to the USSSA website the MBA team has not yet lost. Did your Bandits play this weekend? How about my friend G-man where has he been hiding? Did you make a trip to Tampa this weekend?

My Bandits did play this weekend as last weekend was rained out and we did not want to get to the Super NIT in Alabama and not be prepared. We played in a little round robin type event in Cumming, Georgia playing the #3 ranked team in Georgia twice and coming out on top. We got out of it what we needed and hopefully will be ready for the Florida powerhouses, juggernauts, argonauts, or whatever the heck ya'll call them good teams down that way.

Not Tampa but Orlando. Played with the 13u Major Florida Fire in a 14u Usssa Tournament this weekend. Was a good tournament. Our 13u team score 49 runs and only gave up 11 in 4 games. In the championship we played a 14u team we beat 13-2 in pool but the baseball gods were not with us in the championship and we lost 5-4. Just got home is a matter of fact and dead tired. I see some of my predictions came true pertaining to the R2K11 tourney in Clearwater.

That is very impressive. Although the field dimensions are the same for the 13 and 14u age groups the size and stamina of the players are somewhat different. Do you live in Florida or Georgia? It seems that you hop back and forth between the two states looking for good tournaments or the best competition. Kudos to you and your son. I was hoping you would have been in Tampa-Clearwater and give us a onsight report on the tournament there.

The field dimensions are not the same in Georgia for 13 and 14u. In Georgia for 13u the field is 54/80 and 14u is 60/90. In Florida the field for 13u is 60/90 for most tournaments and 60/90 for all 14u tournaments. The fields are one reason most on this forum hear me keep talking about how the game changes for these young men once they hit that big field.

Florida Fire was going to the Clearwater tournament in the 13u Major division but had some players that had other game commitments locally this weekend in Orlando. So the coach decided we would play in a 14u local Usssa tournament. We live in Georgia but play mostly in Florida until our Georgia 14u summer team starts up. However in June we are moving back to Florida. Too much travel involved to play in Georgia since we live in South Georgia. So moving to Central/South Florida makes sense. My wife and I figured since last Summer and Fall we have spent over 13k for travel playing baseball here in Georgia. This is only because there are no local tournaments held in this area so travel is a must.

Hey MLBScout,

I just noticed the Bandits have a higher power rating then the Dirtbags. I didn't see any threads on it.

I wanted to make sure you knew so you could get more sleep. We all know this was keeping you awake.

Bandits power ratings did go up on the USSSA web page but I am not quite sure what we did to make it happen. It seems that we beat some teams that beat some teams that had beat some other teams that had lost to the Florida teams and the little mathematical formula kicked in and boosted the Bandits power rating.

We have beat the Tri-county drillers, East Cobb Astros, and Team Florida since the last ratings so I can't wait for the recalculation.

This junk is much too far above Papa's head and I will just keep trying to encourage the Bandits to play one game at a time and if they are lucky enough to keep winning all that math crap will take care of itself..

Thank for the information. After the North Carolina Super NIT in Charlotte, the Bandits will increase their power points lead in the USSSA ranking. The Dirtbags will likely fall to 3rd or 4th place.

MLB, would you please let the tournament brackets come out first. I am going to start a thread for you to bash teams not from Georgia. I was born there, and am proud of that fact, but enough of the Dirtbag bashing. I am sure papa agrees on this point. He respects them enough to not do it. The Bandits may very well win it, but the Dirtbags and Canes... and a few others possibly will do their best to hasten the ride back to Georgia.
