Bandit Hawk, you have to be one proud papa! I stepped over for about five minutes only to see your son throw 9 strikes in a row and retire an inning against the canes. WOW! Also, it was nice to meet you. It was great to witness your team play this weekend. INCREDIBLE! Every game I saw your team didn't even give up a single point. Your team is the REAL deal! Congratulations! |

BBpapa: glad you understood. What do you think about my discussion regarding the winning/lost records and the caliber of teams from which these averages arise?

Sorry mlbscout: I thought you was stating that the Super NIT in Atlanta was filled with AA and AAA teams and that was not the case at all. There was some stiff competition at the ballpark and the 12U Bandits had their hands full winning this one. I should have read your earlier posts prior to jumping the gun.

Gwinnett, it was good to meet you face to face. I appreciate the compliment but if you saw a lefty throwing that was not my son. He is however the best 12u player in the country in my opinion, and an incredible pitcher. My son pitched the game after the one that was going on during your son's game. Congrats to you guys too for making in deep in bracket play !! |

mlbscout: At this age level 12U and beyond recruiting wars are more common than at the other ages. And No, it wouldn't surprise me if the stronger teams recruit to increase their chances of winning. I agree that a lot of weight will be given to the NYBC but disagree that it is a given that the winner of the NYBC will be considered the best team in the nation. I know that teams like MBA, Team florida, San Diego, Canes, DirtBags and the Bandits have scheduled the toughest tournaments in the land and if any of these teams could win the majority of what they have entered they would certainly have a case for the title. But to be honest with you I really feel that it is a "Paper Title" and that the thrill of it all will be in the battle itself and not who wins the Title. All of our kids will be better for the chase and in the end that is what counts. |

Duly noted. Thanks for the update.
I still contend that RA, especially in pool play, should not supersede head-to-head competition for any tie breaker. It's not a fair assesment.
Most teams try to go through pool play without exhausting all of their pitching just to keep the RA # down - especially if they are winning the game handily. If a team is up 8-0, they're most likely going to give a kid who hasn't pitched (or pitched a whole lot) a shot on the mound. However, I necessarily wouldn't call what I saw on the converted softball field this weekend a pitcher's mound...it was more like a suggestion. In fact I've seen bigger speed bumps than that....Surley USSSA can do better than that... |

There has to be an objective way of determining the national champions at 12under. The NYBC seems to be the best way. Winning a majority of tournaments is a very subjective method as not all tournaments are equal. If a team earns a spot in the NYBC that is the result of winning a major tournament (AAU, Elite World Series, Cal Ripken, Pony, AABC, Superseries, Dixie). A team that comes out on top at the NYBC would have beaten a series of champion teams. The real question is whether all this matters or not. It probably matters to all the parents and coaches involved more so than the kids themselves. It matters very little to us who are on the outside looking in and with very little pressure to perform. It is always easy for people like us to give opinions and predictions even though at times we really know very little about the teams were are discussing. The most important thing is for the kids to have fun and to enjoy their achievements.

I have a comment about the NYBC, they do allow a couple of organizations like Pony and Dixie that historically aren't as strong as USSSA and the Elite 32. I love the idea behind the NYBC but I think the Elite 32 is BY FAR the strongest tournament with at least 10 teams that can win it. True there is always a few weak teams from LA because Daddy U-trip is from there that get an exemption, but for the most part it is 20+ major teams who can beat most of the teams down there. |
