OK - I have a question about the 12U division at the Perfect Game tournament this past weekend at East Cobb. Now, to be clear, the East Cobb Orange were clearly the best team (wasn't close). And based on what I saw, the Navy were the second best team (though definitely a drop between the two). They both made the finals (no surprise), but rather than actually have to play the game, they were were just declared co-champions. Does anyone know why this happened? One thing if rain cancelled the finals or something but that clearly wasn't the case. If you are going to have a tournament and ask teams to play, then it should be played through to the end. If some other team had made it to the finals against the Orange, could they have said, "Sorry - we are out of pitching. Guess us and the Orange will just have to be co-champs."? Of course not. I am not trying to be difficult, I just want an explanation as to why the Orange and Navy were not required to play the finals and were allowed to declare themselves co-champs. |
