My son plays on a AA travel team out of Cobb county and he just ask me to buy a new 2011 Exogrid two. Do you think the price of these bats are worth it for a year or so since they are banned for highschool play? Is there a cheaper way to go for the same pop In a bat? Thanks for any input.
I wouldn't invest alot of money in a bat for what may be only one season since travel organizations may adopt the BBCOR (or USSSA's new rating) in the very near future. You may likely only get a season out of it. Likewise, I wouldn't invest in a BBCOR for a rising 13u with the expectation that he can use it into HS. You'd be putting him at a disadvantage this season vs the BESR bats and anything that you buy now will likely be outgrown by his freshman season. I went through this with my son having gotten him a 31/28 bat for 13u, but having to get him a 33/30 for his freshman season. I expected that the 31/28 would have at least gotten him through his freshman year, but it did not.
With all the uncertainty regarding what travel tournament directors will be doing, I would look for a good deal on a BESR bat (many websites are unloading them at great prices to get them out of inventory) with the expectation that it's a one season bat.
