On the south side I'd say watch out for the moccs. Very well coached, with some talented kids. They will compete well with the teams from up north.

imho, the AAA ranks have been weakened with several of the top teams getting moved up to majors. I would say Middle GA Mocs, N. Gwinnett Bulldogs, Wills Park Titans, Barrett Baseball and a couple others...

Bravesfan,I think you are looking at it wrong I don't think they weakend aaa they weakend major. Moccs looks like you might have done your homework with that list. I watched sandy plains in fall and they are solid prob could beat half the teams in major. Homeplate, elite gamers black, bandits all are basicly new teams we will see how well they gel together. I don't expect buzz to surprise anybody they prob will get bumped back down to aa they lost a lot of pitching.

I think teams like the rays belong in aaa until they beat major teams. That would make aaa stronger.

Biggin,

Anytime you take the top 5-6 teams out of any division, that weakens that group as a whole. The majors group just got deeper imho, several of these teams could have been majors last season so they are just where they need to be.

I'm not sure about Sandy Plains being #1, top 10 yes. They had an impressive win vs. Shiloh but they would it hard to defeat half the major teams out there.

Don't think that's true, they have beaten a couple major teams last fall and there wasn't exactly a ton playing as well. Majors needed more teams, whether or not the right ones got bumped up is another story.

Solid - your comment could have picked any of the 14 teams that USSSA moved up from AAA to Majors. There are also a couple teams still listed as AAA that either are not accurate (Outlaws/Longhorns based on additions + the way their team performed in the fall), or very good & solid teams based on the way they performed @ 10U (Wills Park, NG, Moccs), or teams that have played well in the fall and could challenge @ majors (west forsyth). Folks know me, and I'm not intentionally leaving any teams out - its early AM and those are a few teams that come to mind!

There was enough movement across teams that until we get into March we really won't know what folks have until we get a few tourney's under all our belts.

Ultimately - its ALL goodness, and I look forward to seeing some very competitive games this spring!

BTW - I see that your new to the boards based on the number of posts. Which team are you with Solid?

Bravesfan,I get what your sayin but my point is this you have several teams that got bumped to major who basicly didn't beat anybody last year. Just because certain teams won a lot doesn't make them major. Listen until these teams are willing to step up and play somebody we still will have your basic 4-5 major teams that matter the rest well you have to do something. As far as aaa goes you look at it there are prob 20 teams that could win any tournement this division has a lot of depth to it.

I have not seen all of the teams on Moccs list, but of the teams I have seen, here is the order I would rank them:

1. Wills Park Titans
2. WF Diamond Dawgs
3. Alpharetta A's
4. Barrett Baseball / North Gwinnett Bulldogs (tie)

I think the WP Warriors could surprise this year. The Sharon Springs Black team (combined two SS teams from last year) and the new Patriot Baseball Academy are also two teams to watch very closely from this area. Oh yeah, Roswell added numerous new players and also stand to rise up in AAA this year.

I have not seen the new-look Sandy Plains team yet, but everything I've heard is they will be up at the top somewhere.

Adairsville Jackhammers? I think they'll be a tough team. Hung in and beat some good teams in fall.

One thing to keep in mind when usssa reclassified teams it not only is based on last years record. When new teams roster is put in they look at how many kids from each level is on current team so if you start a team with let's say 4 major and 4 aa and let's say 2 aaa kids chances are they will put you in aaa.

I don't think the list is in ranking order, it is just a list. It encompasses the majority of AAA teams that have been around for a while. It is a good place to start with guessing at what is still to come. There are new teams coming into the mix.

All - here's a link to another thread on AAA teams where Andy of the Nationals did a really really good job reviewing the teams from the North Fulton area.

http://www.nwgabaseball.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11473&whichpage=2

For years my son has played with, and against, many of the teams & coaches Andy highlights.

Hope all enjoyed the beautiful weather over the weekend - We can't wait for games to start-up soon so we can hang out with all our ballpark friends, & seeing all the kids compete!

biggin, I agree that there will inevitably be 4-5 Major teams that rise to the top this Spring but I would argue that this division will be just as competitive as aaa.

Think about it. 4-5 teams out of 16/17 equals about 30%, 20 aaa teams out of 60+ is the same percentage. Just more or less teams in total.

Might getting boring though, seeing the same teams every tournament.

11ufan,I think we all no who top teams in major are. Hopefully some other teams can step up to make it competitive. The real ? Is who are top teams in aaa. The point in me askin this is to show how much depth there is. Iam with as far as it could get boring if we see same teams over and over. One thing that will happen is certain teams in major are goin to be real selective about what tournements they play in.

Biggin,

I think if you have 4 players that were on major teams on the new major list last year that they pitched or caught should be a major team this year. In your example how do we know that the 4 AA players were great players but just on bad teams. I think teams should start out higher and then be lowered rather the like the Macon Cards did last year and start out low just to win games then bumped up!

biggin, I think we all know who the top 2 or 3 Major teams are (Braves, Stealth, Stars?). The next 2 or 3 are going to have to prove it on the field. I bet there will be a surprise or two. By March it should start shaking out.

You ar right about aaa. More good teams, alot more opportunities for surprises.

I hope you are wrong about major teams being selective. You don't know what you have if you don't play in competitive tourney's. At least if it is a usssa tourney they will have to play majors.

I am sure some of these major teams will also play up or travel for some tournaments to keep their teams challenged.

If the 11U season lives up to 1/2 the hype it should be alot of fun!

Mocs,

You might be onto something, I watched Sandy Plains as they had the Longhorns down by 4-5 runs in the 3rd inning or so but couldn't put them away and lost a heart breaker on basically a passed ball. Perhaps the Longhorns were looking past them and onto the Rays in the Ship but like my daddy always says, "son you have to get there first"

Alpharetta A's got whipped by Ga Select AA team in the crossroad frost championship this week, so should Alpharetta be on this list? And Alpharetta whipped WF Diamond Dawgs last week?

Grandpa, These teams cannot control who enters these tournaments and quite frankly this was probably the most competitive one out there. Most expected to see the Rays/Horns play for what seems like the 10th time already and that's what happened so hats off to the horns for winning this one.

This weekend brings a new challenge to everyone, too early to tell who will be sharp and who will be rusty from a long winter. I for one would like to just enjoy the games and leave the smack talk alone for a while, good luck to all the teams this weekend!!!!
