Just wanted to see if there was as many people upset about signing up for a tournament only to see teams drop the week it is to start. I think directors should require money up front, before posting teams. I as a parent hate the idea of signing up to play in a tournament with 10 teams come to find out that 4 days before pool play postings that only 4 teams remain. If your scared to play against teams stay in rec ball!! Maybe there is some cases where they be honest problems (injury, family schedulings) but to drop just because another strong team signs up is just being a ######. These are the same teams that spout off about being #1 in this or that. You can't be the big dog till you beat the big dog. Let the kids play, they may supprise you. This is fall ball and most of the teams are trying out new bodies at new positions. Just a vent from an "average team" in one of these tournaments.
I think teams drop out for more than just the reason you give.
I think they drop out because they don't see the competition they are looking for as often as they drop out because they see a team sign up that represents a big challenge.
In fall I think they sometimes drop out because they realize they dont have enough players due to football conflicts.
I think they drop out because their teams are not set and they don't have a full roster when they thought they would after kids who "made commitments" go somewhere else.
I think they drop out due to fear that the tourney won't have enough teams.
I think they drop out when it becomes apparent that a tourney director posted teams on his "who's coming" are not really coming.
I agree 100%. I like the way nations does it with having teams listed as paid/commited etc. Theres nothign worse than coming in ready to play and then its you and three teams not on the level.

I really do understand some of your points but...why sign up at all? If your looking for playing time and experience, play against the teams that want to play. If you don't have a roster of players, you should have never signed on to a tournament. I think most teams out there have a couple of football players doing both. This is where communication between kids(and parent)and the coach comes in. Our coach won't sign on to a tourney if the boys are playing football. I do understand directors throwing out names of teams that just call to inquire. Those directors should have some sort of guide lines or rules governing these actions. Maybe to refund money to the teams that paid and that do not wish to participate now that the "teams coming" list has changed. Hit the tournament directors where it hurts...the pocket!! List only the teams that pay. Set a team limit, when the age bracket is full(w/paid teams)list them. The director will gain more popularity with clean, well organized tournaments which will draw more teams and better competition. There are several directors out there that have waiting list for tournaments. Post only the teams that paid their money! LET'S PLAY BALL!!
