I was wondering if there are any East Cobb teams still looking for 13u players?

This may be a bit off base but are you looking at ECB because you live close by, word of mouth, program history? Do you seek to play Major, AAA, AA ball? Where does your child fit? Cost? There are numerous teams with quality programs within short drives that may fit your needs. I'm not pushing you either way just giving other options. Research...USSSA team records(power ratings),Nations,Grand Slam,Triple crown, look up tournament winners and make a balanced decision. The final straw would be team chemistry.
Would you and your child fit happily in the mix? Research,Research,Research.

The draft is tonight, right?

I think I posed the question incorrectly. I have looked at the teams from a surface standpoint, so I was actually hoping someone would know if the workouts have been completed. I didn't know if I should try to contact individual coaches, or if there would be another general tryout held before final decisions were made. I see that the drafts may take place tonight, so I gues it's too late. I thought there may still be teams who have not found all of the players they need. My son has played at the Major level the last 3 years with a pretty succesful team. He has played middle infield and pitched, so I was hoping he would be given an opportunity to workout for someone. We have played against the East Cobb teams for the last 3 years, and are now in a position to explore our options, and we're not too far from East Cobb. He does a lot of his hitting/pitching lessons in Cobb. So, if any coaches have time to see another player, we'd love the opportunity.

baseball novice -

My son plays for a major 13U ECB team and I know our coach is going to have open spots after the draft for the right player. I think this is pretty common for the ECB teams so I would contact the Coach of the team you are interested in. Additionally, look under the topic "13U teams looking for players" as I have seen many ECB teams advertise openings on that discussion board. This will most likely not happen until after the draft when the teams know where they stand on their roster.

Good Luck

Does anyone know if the 13u draft is tonight? I understand the Astros completed their three days of workouts yesterday. It might take a day or so before the smoke clears, and the teams can begin the draft. Does anyone know what is going on at EC?

There is no "draft" so to speak. Most teams will have holdovers from the prior year, and let a few go. The ones that are let go show up (actually everyone shows up)for the tryouts in hopes of landing an offer. It is/can be a feeding frenzy if your kid is good. Further, phone lines and emails burn up leading up to the tryouts with coaches and players parents trying to find the right fit. But no "Draft".

Going Deep,
Call it what you want, but the Draft does occur for every age group and the 13U one was last night. It is not a traditional type draft, but more of a roll-call of players and who they are playing for.

baseballnovice,
No it is not too late. My understanding is just about every team except the Astros (I believe the Brastro may still be looking for a player or two, though) is still looking for at least 1 or 2 players. You will need to reach out to the coaches individually, though. There is not another general tryout. Good Luck in your search process.

I guess it is semantics. I know all too well how it works at ECB, my point was little Johnny does not show up at the tryouts and get evaluated, and then drafted on to a team like in rec ball. THAT is all I meant by "draft". Yes, the 13u "draft" was indeed last night.

I thought the ECB tryouts were a big disappointment. Parents seemed to be posturing for positions. Also, you should probably call the second astros team the braves as most of the players stayed the same which seemed surprising with the talent that was out on the field and their record last year. I think ECB may have dropped the ball, (pardon the punn), as some very good players may have left the park.

Correct Elite, the tryouts were a big disappointment. Last years 12u tryouts were bizarre, but at least you knew where your son stood within a matter of days. This year, I do believe, confused even the other coaches who were waiting on the Astros A and B teams to take first pick of the litter. All the while, some very good talent walked right out of the complex. ECB did drop the ball.

I couldn't agree with the two of you more! A lot of talent did get over looked. Will be interesting to see how this 2 Astros thing pans out. I still don't get why it was even done.

Don't know why either particularly when the coach of the second team chose most of the same players who played on his Brave team last year and left many good players out including some of the Astros.
