I heard that there were going to be a blue and orange Astro team next year. Is there any truth to this? If so do you know who will be coaching the teams? I think Tony C is coaching one still and Whitney Fite is coaching the other. If so Congrats Whitney. He is a class act. ( Tony is also. )

I doubt this is true. W. Fite has built up a nice reputation with his EC Braves team. He doesn't seem like the type who would give that up just to have the word Astros on his jerseys.

Going Deep,
Where was the announcement. I confirmed this was true too. I was just curious if there was a bigger announcement.

No idea "where" the announcement was, just that there was one (from someone that would know)

Interesting, the current 13U Astros coach is unaware of the situation, maybe you are hearing wrong? Maybe he hasn't been told yet? More interesting the 12U Astros coach is moved on and hearing the 17U coach is coming down, has anyone heard that yet?

Why would you have 2 Astros teams. That doesn't make any sense at all.

Braves Coach announced it to his team on Saturday which was after the rumors started on this board about it. Beginning to sound like the communication equipment over there is in need of repair, not just this age group but others as well. Still going to have a number 1 and number 2 team there, just like this past year, except you call them the same name. Wonder if the Colt .45s and Titans will also be changing their name to Astros.

Heard same thing that 12U coach is out.

Bruins1-Titans program is very strong at EC, so I doubt they would jump on that bandwagon, but I get what you are saying!! This 2 Astros team is the craziest thing I have heard. Who has the "A" team and who has the "B" team???

Makes sense to me, if the other ECB coaches allow it to happen. Astros get most of the ECB talent spread out over 2 teams. Come tournament time they can pick players who are performing well on the Bteam and replace a few on the Ateam who aren't.

From what I understand, the thought is that there was enough talent around in this age group to field 2 highly competitive teams. Tony will have #1 and Whitney will have #2. No moving back and forth unless it is for the big end of the year type tournaments (E32). Could possibly end up being the top 2 13 yr old teams in the state. I don't think this is a bad idea. Guess we will see.

Top two teams in the state?? I guess that could be possible if teams like the RoadRunners and Jaguars decide to move to another state..hahaha

The Braves already had the #2 team at ECB, so why change the name??? I agree with lefty2010, it takes away from being a 13U Astro. There is a lot of talent in this age group and a lot of them aren't going to be on Astros.

What most people are counting on is the COACHING change..Different coach this year in the 13u Astros..SO that may bring out more tallent to the 2 teams..I heard there were 50 kids at the first tryout for the ASTROS..and over 200 for the ECB 13u tryouts..

Not exactly sure why people are counting on that because the coaching does not get better as you go up the levels on the astro teams, better players come from around the country to play at the facility at those ages, 14-17, but better coaching, I think that is a bit overrated from what I am being told by some high level scouts in the area.

I agree with your response. The coaching at the younger age groups is very good at East Cobb. Also, compare the records of the 12U Astros to the 13U Astros. I think the 12U won 10-11 tournaments last year?
Also, the 13U 2011 team has 18 players!!!! This could be a mess if some of the top players are sitting on the bench every game?!

This whole thing is crazy!! I don't know why a parent would put their kid on a team of 18 kids knowing they are going to sit the bench a lot. Is the Astros name really worth it?? These boys need to be playing before they get to high school.

I agree with you 100% Knucklecurve. I wish every parent would sit there child down and ask them to give them an honest answer and not the one dad wants to hear from this question. Would you rather sit the bench and never really get to play on an elite team, or would you rather play a major role on a good team. I would guess I know the answer almost every time. It cracks me up how they all say " they get better coaching in practices that makes them a better player". Keep telling yourself that long enough and you might believe it one day. East cobb does have some very good coaches, but that does not mean that no one else knows how to coach. Hopefully everyone will end up in the best situation for there child.

They carried 13 last year. So if you figure the same next year, then add any they pick up between now and then, they will cut/lose 5-7 between now and Spring. The 2 team plan was to keep most of the talent at ECB, so these kids will possibly be moved to the Blue team. That team already has 3-4 coaches kids(kind of undermines the whole ECB Astros idea doesn't it?) So how safe are the other 7-8 kids on the Blue team? AND, with those kids put back out there as "Free Agents" how many other rosters might change before Spring?

They are going to cut kids after the fall?? That's a great way to tear down a 13 year old boy. I am assuming all of the parents are aware of these cut.? I just don't understand how a parent could put their kid in a position to fail like that and then have to scramble for a team for a new team in the spring, that is if there are 5 to 7 spots open by then. There are alot of other great teams at ECB that commit to the kid for the ENTIRE year!

Anyone think Pralgo would let this go on for even one minute at 643?
