Interested in everyones thoughts on this. A head coach of a 10U team has taken his boy and others on the team to Hooters in between tournament games on several occasions, bought them Hooters Waitress Trading Cards which shows girls in skimpy lingerie. These boys carry these cards around in their bat bags and share them with those kids on the team without any concern or regard for the other kids or parents. Is it wrong for the coach to not only condone this but encourage this type of behavior?

The kids love the hamburgers there...I'm sure that's all it is.

Regardless of what anyone else feels about this you obvioulsy are not happy about it. You should discuss this with the coach 1 on and 1 and share your feelings.

If the boys like the food then no issues taking them there but the trading cards? I don't know about that.

Thanks for the replies. I certaily do not care about them goig there to eat. The bid issue is the cards. Bringing thiem them in bat bags and exposing other kids to it I do not feel is appropriate.

I am about as far from a prude as you can get.

Until it comes to 10 YO's.

Totally inappropriate in my opinion.

My better half would tell you it's totally inappropriate for me to go to Hooters. So I go to Tilted Kilt.

Hooters has great food! I agree with ecbinsider. The cards might be a bit much. I'd have to confiscate the cards myself. I wouldn't want them getting into the wrong hands. :)

I have had a team in the past that has made trips to Hooters after games and at first I had reservations about this exposure to these 9-10 yr olds because I myself had not been there and did not know what to expect. Hooters itself is pretty harmless (although some will argue this point) but I would have to draw a line at the lingerie trading cards. I do not want anyone encouraging this kind of thing (carrying around pictures of girls in lingerie) with my son because those kind of pressures will be here soon enough and I do not want them thrown at him any sooner.

I would chock this up to the old "Boys being Boys " syndrome. I agree with Bandithawk also, it apparently is not sitting well with you , then you should let the coach know.

To quote the famous scholar Sir Chris Rock, "NOBODY GOES TO HOOTERS FOR WINGS!!!" :)

Seriously, though, I don't really have a problem with a Father taking his 10 year old son to Hooters. It's harmless. As a coach, however, I don't think I would take my team there and I am sure I wouldn't get my son (or anyone else's) trading cards. I think of it the same way I do politicians...once you decide to commit yourself to that role you should hold yourself to a higher standard than just "acceptable". Of course, this is just one man's opinion.

I agree that if it is a problem for you then you should discuss it with your coach. He will probably be embarrassed about the whole thing and will make sure that your concerns are dealt with appropriately....but don't hate him for it. Consider it a learning lesson and move on.

We took our 13u team there last season in Panama City Beach season ending tournament. Moms, dads, boys and some siblings - the 13u boys really enjoyed it. Probably pushing the line with 10u though and asking for issues not worth facing with some families. As coaches we always get to deal with enough stuff from families we don't enjoy - this seems like an avoidable one given 10u. Cheeseburgers are good though and our boys had a blast taking pictures, trying to get phone numbers and experiencing their adolescent thoughts. Lots of blushing and smiles though

I doubt very much if he bought them trading cards that he would be embarrassed about this. Shame on him for teaching 10yr olds to look at women as sexual objects.

I also have no problem taking a 10 year old to Hooters to eat, but......

Step back and look at the situation described.
A grown man giving 10 year old kids trading cards of sexy young women dressed in lingerie posing provacatively.

Call me overprotective but that sets off all kinds of warning alarms for me.

By the way, have you noticed any NAMBLA bumper stickers on any of his vehicles.
That would also send up a red flag.

Coach may be well intentioned or nieve, either way, he should have checked with parents of the kids he took to Hooters. In my book, that's kind of a common sense thing....regarding Hooters trading cards in the dugout....there's no room in baseball for Hooters trading cards in the dugout....unless Hooters is sponsoring your team of course ( LOL ). Why not hang a Hooters calendar in the dugout, or centerfolds etc. ? It's just WRONG and should be stopped immediately. I would not allow it in my dugout.

If coach wants to go, that's his business, but completely inappropriate for a Coach to take ANY age group boys to Hooter's. I'm assuming he asked/told the parents where they were going, and, i would guess several parents, at least Mom's, objected, but who wants to be the parent to say, 'No, my kid can't go', putting the kid and the parent in an awkward position.

Peanut The NAMBLA comment was funny.

Let me first say I have been a Crimes Aginst Children Investigator for 7 years. I think it depends on the situation at Hooters...Were other parents and siblings present? If a coach just took the boys there then I think red flags should be raised. If it is a team event it seems pretty harmless.

The trading cards are another issue. If we decided we did"nt want our son around that then he sees the trading cards I would be upset.

Just talk to the coach andvoice your concerns.

10 year olds become 14 year olds. Have you coached 14 year olds. Let the 10 year olds go to CHUCK E CHEESE

Papa went to Hooter's with the Parents, Coaches and Kids of the Bandits after winning one of the State Tournaments. I told the Bandits if that waitress acted she knew my first name that she must have me mixed up with somebody else.

our coaches have joked since 7u that we would go to hooters after each tournament victory, never actually happened, but to this day when asked where they want to go it's always hooters. if the mommas missed a tournament it may happen.
