What do you expect the tournament to provide for the registration fee your team pays to play? We have played in a t least two tornements this season where there was not even a working scoreboard. The chain link was missing from the angled part of the back stop and the outfield had more dirt then grass. Sure, the kids still had fun and I don't think any of this had a real effect on the outcome of any of the games. But when you pay over $300 plus a gate fee, should you be able to expect some of the basics?

I would expect that the scoreboards would work and that the fields are in decent shape, they don't have to be like East Cobb but more dirt then grass wouldn't work for me.

What ere you playing in USSSA, TC or ...? Not knowing what age group you guys are was makes a difference. As you get older you know what parks and tournaments to stay away from. Not to pick on Bubba and Matt at USSSA but what would be called their home fields down at Hidden Valley and Rex can be some of the worst fields. We pick are tournaments as much on the teams that are playing as the location. Once you have a weekend like you just had mark that one off the list in the future.

We always tried to look on line at the parks the tournament is being held at. Over the years, you know which parks are good to play at. Sadly, many parks these days are receiving less and less up keep. Also, a large portion of the fees go to renting the fields and paying the umpires, whose fees have gone up and quality gone down. Most TD's are at the mercy of the facilities maintenance group and already existing field conditions. Time to move on if the fields are not being held to a minimum standard.

These were 10U tournaments. But what difference does the age make? We still pay $300 to $400 plus a gate fee. (By the way, this weekend's fields made the Rex fields look great.)

I expect at least one official to have a clicker. We had about four instances last weekend same game that among the home plate guy, field umpire and the scorekeeper in the box they could not get it right. Take for instance when a kid walked on a 4-1 pitch. This totally should not happen. Also, we make sure leave nothing in the dugout whether it was our or not - common courtsey. How about someone staying on the trash so we have a place to put it???
