I had a question that I hope our experts on here could clarify. It is in regards to the runner at 3rd not being able to score unless the ball is put into play or the runner is forced home by a walk.
The rule seems pretty cut and dry as far as the running scoring from 3rd when the runner starts at 3rd. BUT, if you have a runner that starts on second base and advances to 3rd on a pass ball/wild pitch, can the runner keep going and advance to home if the throw back to the pitcher is over thrown or a throw down to 3rd is over thrown?
No, the runner cannot advance to home from 3rd. You should always have your catcher throw down to 3rd even if he thinks there is no shot at getting the runner out. It's a free play for the catcher and will give him good experience for the next season.

Even if the runner starts @ 2nd, on a passed ball and over throw back to pitcher they can not advance to home? I understand that if the runner started @ 3rd, he would not be able to advance to home. But, curious when they start @ 2nd.
Does not matter where the runner starts from. They can only advance to home on a batted ball. The rule is in place to take the pressure off of kids that are pitching for the 1st time and catchers that have not yet learned the skill of blocking balls in the dirt.
