Hello all,
Second year travel ball coach here. We have a team from the north side of Atl that played 8u coach pitch last season. I'm looking for opinions on the best association (USSSA, Triple Crown, etc...) to focus on. By the best I mean the best competition and most teams. I would think most teams sanction with multiple associations so they would have their pick of tournament from week to week? But I also think it would be best to focus on one for our year end team goals.
Any thoughts? |

WellI think most will say they will play where the best competition is playing for that weekend..It changes from weekend to weekend..Some of the better tournaments aren't with an association. So it really depends on where you want to end the season at..Get that taken care of first and they go play the best you can find.. |

It depends on your goals for your team. If you are chasing trophies, and are concerned about points and standings, then you will likely want to focus on playing all of your tournaments in one association. If you truly are seeking the best competition, you will want to play in most all of them. At some point during the season, each association will host a tournament where the best competition from GA and a few surrounding states will be present. You can qualify for your end of season tourney by doing well in only 1 tourney, so it shouldn't hold you back from that stand point. It is also good to experience the various formats each association has to offer. Each one generally does something well, which may differ from the others, and is a good experience for your players. |

IMHO, don't put your eggs in one basket. Work backwards, look at all the End of Year tournaments, who went, how you think they ranked and where you want top go. The look at what you need to get there; play in a qualifier, win a tournament or have a check that does not bounce. Then you have all of December - March to pick and choose which tournaments you want to play in each weekend.
If you look on this board, there is almost a circuit of tournaments starting with Forsyth's Slugfest (or snow fest or or rainfest or coldfest) in early March, the super NIT, back to school TCS, etc. You can tryto play with everyone else, or you can mix and match and try to play 70 games against 70 different teams by going to Alabama/Tennessee/South Carolina/Florida instead of staying in the area. |

I agree with 12U Coach. There is a good circuit of tournaments that feature the best teams around and there is another circuit that caters to AAA and other teams. Pick the tournament that will push your team to its limit and do not pigeon hole your team into any one classification. Doing it this way will open up your options tremendously. |
