Since the weather is bad i thought i would put a few things down.
1. we played a tourney in fall and just won a game to go to finals and the team we were to play claimed since they were higher seed they wanted the dugout we were already in. LOL..who does that? i could see perhaps if one team had not just gotten done playing and was already in it. The baseball gods came thru. But bush league for sure
2. filling out the on line rosters every time you play a different sanction. usssa..PG, top gun. global, blah blah blah way too much trouble. Not sure good answer.
3. kids and parents who want to be on good travel teams because hey want to compete but do not want to compete for playing time within the team they are on.
4.Back to the tournaments. Directors who think they should keep a portion of entry fee if you do not play or half if you play a game? Fair or not i do not like it.
5. Tournaments who list teams coming and then the actual teams showing are not the ones listed.
6. teams who advertise they are looking for or are AAA or Major but then play at AA in non usssa events. IE claim one thing and play another. No one does it the other way around for some reason.
7. WWBA events all over the state when you think your coming to play at lakepoint or ecb and you end up with 4/5 games in a field 45 minutes away with no traffic.
8. I think that about does it for today...oh i could add Dad's with radar guns they paid 90 bucks for arguing the 1500 dollar ones scouts use are off by 5 mph on their kid. |

What were the rules? Usually it's higher seed is home team, but I don't think I've actually seen where that means they get to pick the dugout. Playing devil's advocate, there can be big differences in temperature/comfort level between dugouts if one is in the shade and the other in the sun. Or they could just be superstitious.
Whatever the case, it seems pretty petty to me. Glad karma came through. |

Point 1. My son's Dizzy Dean All Star Summer team had this happen to his team over this past summer. Sad thing was the team that kicked us out of the dugout that we were in, having just won the semi-final game, was from the same park!.....A lot of drama ensued, driven by entitlement and bitterness. After it was all settled, we ending up moving to other dugout and beat them decisively! |

When we were in an All Star tournament when my son was 10 the coaches and parents from an unnamed park's "B" team sat in our stands and openly cheered for us against their "A" team.
We ended up beating both over the course of the weekend. |

The dugout thing happened 2x this past one was in the fall and no advantage other than the coach privately said he didnt want parents yelling at kids from 3rd base side where he coached. I told him to control his parents and tell them to be quiet. The other time the team claimed it was their park but during a tourney its no ones park and the tourney probably benefited their park.
I think once you coach up thru the ranks and then go back down to a younger age you care about stupid stuff less as you realize none of it matters in the long run and you just enjoy the game and the kids more. |

One of the truest statements I have ever heard uttered. Applies to way more than this situation. Just hard for those in the moment, going thru it for the first time to get a hold of. Hard for those of us who have been thru it to get across to them. Just try explaining something like that on the 6-9 year old boards. I've tried and pretty much got my head chewed off. |

Rules of almost every tournament organization give the higher seed team home dugout choice!
You shouldn't get upset about it. Usually the home dugout is on the 3B side and is an advantage for coaches that they feel they EARNED by winning the higher seed during pool play.
That doesn't make them evil because they exercise their teams right to an advantage.
Just sayin! |

I have never seen that rule. I understand the higher seed is the home team. But I have never seen anything saying they had their choice of dugouts.

There are no designated home/away dugouts at these parks and anyone who would make a team change dugouts needs to lighten up. |

Love the list. Here are a couple of mine:
*Called strikes on pitches that bounce in the dirt. *Umps who not only don't hustle to get in position, they just don't move, period. *Coaches who want to chirp at umps all game and then act bewildered as to why the close ones aren't going their way. *Walk-up music on a boom box for a AA team that's getting beat 12-1 in the 2nd inning. Ugh. I know it makes me sound like the "get off my lawn" old man, but I just don't like it. |

If you are already in the dugout and your next game is on the same field and the higher seed wants you to change dugouts, that coach is going to wait a long time for my team to move out, a real long time. Then I will post on this message board who that coach is. "Just sayin". |

Yea it makes perfect sense to make 12 kids with their ball bags and everything in the dugout for the last 2 hours to pack up and move to an empty dugout so you can exercise your right LOL...i think that makes my case. Thanks IV. And why is 3b the advantage? Not all major league teams use the 3b side i think most use the 1b side?
As far as the 6-9 year old boards nothing is worse than parents debating who is the best team at a certain age group. Drive the car pay the bills and sit down >...MIke Matheny letter is a must read. Of course most think its a great letter written for other people. |

I should point out who it was but i do not think that is what the thread was intended to do...One of their parents who was near 3b side was asked to leave during an earlier game. Even their coach sort of laughed and said now you know why i want first base dugout i cant have them standing near me at 3rd base dugout when i coach. I would prefer the thread not to become a dugout only thread though as past is past. (i guess i could have not written this last one then)
I do hate boom boxes too and its almost as bad if not worse if the team is winning 12-0 vs losing 12 -0. Heck the losing team may only have the music to look forward to.
As far as umpires its tough as you teach catchers to frame well to earn strikes and hitters to swing at good pitches and then almost anything goes for a strike. That is a tough area because at certain levels and ages you may not get a strike thrown and you want to move the game along. I would hope by 60/90 time that changes and at the major level it should before that. |

Love the topic.
It irritates me that usa baseball changed the cutoff date years ago and made it even worse for kids being in the same grade. Made the 12u fields too short in the process.
I do not like the school calendar like this. School systems are ruining baseball. Ending school too early and I really hate watching high school games with snow flurries. Makes everybody have to start earlier and earlier. |

Music etiquette is vital for good sportsmanship!
When the kids are 15+ they will know when to come in for a possible bunt, until then our 3rd basemen SHOULD be able to hear our dugout coach yelling to him.
Keep it down guys! |

Couldn't agree more. In fact the idea of using the May 1 cutoff date once players are in high school is absurd. After 14U it should go by graduating class. |

OK, I'll play...my all-time, most-despised occurrence(s):
Parents who will spend an entire game talking loudly and proudly about anything other than the game we're attending...
some examples: sibling's haircut, the joys of dual enrollment, that kid that got arrested, summer vacation plans, husband's sleeping problems, mean boss at work....just stop it.

+1, which is why i don't sit near any of the women when watching baseball, heck i clear out from the seating area/bleachers and find a wall or fence etc. somewhere far far away.

Parents that yell during every play about exactly WHY the team is loosing....the pitcher has lost his stuff, the catcher can't block crap today, the outfielder needs to get some sun glasses....yet the ball that goes through their own child's legs never seems to get addressed....very odd! |
