About the only negative from that whole wonderful experience was the pretty obvious issue of the fences being way too short. (At least for the 12u's.)
At least routine pop-ups wouldn't be rewarded quite so much ...
Bat manufacturers would probably be pushing each other out of the way to supply.

I think that would be a good idea, but I would be opposed to the tournament "Supplying" the bats. They don't supply the bats now, except for the HR derby (which are pieces of cr@p), so I would not expect them to supplying the wood bats. Keep in mind also that Cooperstown Dreams Park is not looking to add additional expense to their budget so paying for bats would probably not fly very well and don't even think about the bat manufacturers supplying them for free. No good business model starts with giving away their product for free. Hard to turn a profit that way.
I would truly be in favor of going to wood bats, which the players would bring themselves. It should be an easy sell because the dreams park could sell them to the players that break their bats during the games. Another revenue stream. Like they need another one.  |

| Using wood bats at Cooperstown isn't such a good idea. First of all, that would take away the easy long ball for kids who have never hit a homer before, they call it dreams park for a reason. If they didn't want home runs they would move the fences back a lot further. Second of all, that could put lots of kids in a major slump because ajusting to a wood bat is hard in a short period of time. Then Cooperstown wouldn't be as fun because slumps suck! |

| I gotta agree with ecb101. Have you seen what a wood bat tourney can do to a team? It's not pretty especially for the younger kids. Hits are fewer. Runs are fewer. And the weight differential is killer against the manchild throwing 70! It might turn a baseball game into fastpitch softball. Slap and run. I shudder the thought. |

| We did a wood bat tourney this past Spring and I saw none of the terrible ill effects and impending slumps that some speak about. We came in runners-up and our team BA actually went up and everybody really enjoyed it. It wasn't the first I've done either. BTW the players were allowed to use their own bats which is the only way to do it IMO. |

I actually think that the bat co's might supply them. If the teams knew which ones the park used, they (the teams) would probably but at least 4 or 5 to get used to them. Multiply that by 96 teams per week times 10 or 11 weeks and I think they would more than make up for it.
I however am not a supporter of wood bat baseball until the kids get up to 13 or 14. When the kids are getting strong enough to swing the bats consistantly. Not that some of the kids can't. I mean as an entire group. |

| Cooperstown is not looking to cut back on the number of HR's hit each week. Gosh, this is their main calling card.....Cooperstown is not so out of touch with the reality of 12U baseball either. Just look at the Little League World Series on now..... They play on 205 foot 3 to 4 foot high fences.....at least Cooperstown is 8/9 foot tall. Also, keep in mind that at least half of the 98 teams each week in C'town are not "elite" travel teams. Wood bats would cut back interest by those teams tremendously.....and C'Town is not interested in making their tournament less attractive to anyone. |
