It wont be long until Lake Point fields will be on line. Ill just bet they will have the best drainage of any fields in the world. Maybe tournaments will be fun again even with these rainy days in the summer.. I think they will cost more but it will be worth it. I have a 9 yr old grandson that plays travel ball. Ill be looking forward to many tournaments there in the future

Want to kill some time looking at pictures of the progress there?

For those complaining about the gate fees at ECB you better start saving up to watch the games at LP.

Highly Disappointed in seeing turf. I hope that does not become a trend but have seen it locally at Blessed a Trinity. Saw a college game at Vanderbilt this year and they have the turf, crazy seeing players sliding on it and catchers trying to block balls in the "dirt". Game should be played in the real dirt, not a painted version. I know it saves money for high schools for football fields but strange for baseball. Batters can't dig in.

My son's high school has a turf baseball field. They did n miss a single game this season due to rain. It did make sliding interesting.

I will ask my son if catching was harder or easier.

My son is a catcher and played on turf. He said he hated it because even if he knocked the ball down, as soon as it hit the ground it would bounce away. He said it was much more difficult for blocking, but he did enjoy not twisting his ankles in the holes that are generally there.

If you want to get a feel for it, play a Ripken tournament in SC. Their fields are all turf. My son's team seemed to love it when they played on them. Just slide very early, you go forever on the turf.

Interesting. I asked my son about this last night. He thought it was much easier on turf. Pitches "in the dirt" always took consistent bounces. I guess like most things, some like it and some hate it.

We played on the turf field in Alpharetta and the hops are more consistant, but the outfield ones take a little getting used to.

We've played on them for years at the Triple Crown Nationals in Myrtle Beach. Biggest complaint from ALL the players is the heat. Temperature on the turf can be 30-40 degrees higher than the actual temp. It'll be interesting to read this thread after July.

@ITK - We played on the turf in Dallas last July and the bottom of cleats were melting...not kidding!

From their website:

" The fields will also be equipped with brand new HydroChill turf technology, which will enable them to maintain temperatures more than 50 degrees cooler than normal synthetic turf fields. "

Look at who is behind this project…legends in the sport and the #1 scouting organization in the world. I trust that they have considered all of the positives and negatives to offer the best product. Great catchers will do what they always do - adapt and overcome to all changing conditions.

Now if Perfect Game would get organized and post the schedules for tournaments that start Monday. C'mon, guys, help your customers, people are trying to plan for significant drives to games in the middle of a work day.

Just finished this week at PG while we all see this will be a first class facility it is obvious that they (PG) are scheduling to many games. Numerous teams did not play consolation games because a few fields were unplayable because of overnight rains on Wednesday. I get it, but it just seemed like to many team for to few fields other wise awesome week : )

My son's team being part of one of those canceled consolation games, my very strong suspicion is that Perfect Game didn't want to pay for field prep or umps for a "meaningless" consolation game - especially since they won't be refunding any team fees for said game.

Okay -several games there including today. If these are hydro chill fields and 50 degrees cooler - they must not have turned on the hydro chill today. In addition and BIG problem for me - they do not allow the players to bring in jugs of water or beverage -they are considered coolers. WHAT?? I get I can't bring my iced diet cokes in - I can live with that but to not allow the players to bring in jugs is ridiculous. In addition, teams can "purchase" the jugs with very watered down Gatorade. I'm sorry but it was hot as bloody blazes on those fields today and NO WATER unless you wanted to pay $3 for a little bottle we sell at our high school field for $2. (and we all think that is too expensive at our own high school field!!) I'm waiting for the first lawsuit for a kid that gets heat stroke on these hydro cooled fields. If it's your kid - keep my post and feel free to email me as a witness on your behalf..

On another forum, PG staff has stated that the water issue has been addressed, even though it is not their property, but LP's.

"they must not have turned on the hydro chill today"- Hydrochill™ by Shaw sports turf isn't turned on, it just sweats, according to their website.

And now NO metal cleats on the fields. Guess the turf could not handle the wear and tear.

The great thing about living in a capitalist society is if you don't like a product someone is selling, then don't buy it.

So what happens when all the kids show up with just metal cleats? Play in turfs and sandals? I know my son does not have any molded cleats.

Anybody got a link to that Perfect Game page with said policy? I can't find such an announcement anywhere.
